Post by stujones »

I recieved an e-mail from Koncreate Promotions who sent me this press release. I'm not to sure why I was on their list but I appreciate the thought and am greatful that you find me worthy of e-mailing. Cheers Guys.

Anyway, here is the press release.

TUESDAY NIGHT FIGHTS…. November 30th 2004
Silver Blades Ice Arena, Queens Rd, Sheffield

‘A Few Good Men’

THE VACANT CENTRAL AREA MIDDLEWEIGHT CHAMPIONSHIP
Dean WALKER V Lee MURTAGH

6x3 MINUTE ROUNDS @ CRUISERWEIGHT
Simon FRANCIS V Greg Scott-Briggs

6x2 MINUTE ROUNDS @ CRUISERWEIGHT
Neil DAWSON V CHRIS WOOLLAS

6x2 MINUTE ROUNDS @ LIGHT-WELTERWEIGHT
ALI V S/O

6x2 MINUTE ROUNDS @ SUPER-MIDDLEWEIGHT
Nicki TAYLOR V S/O

6x2 MINUTE ROUNDS @ SUPER-MIDDLEWEIGHT
Reagan DENTON V S/O

Also featuring the professional debut of Sheffield’s highly rated amateur light-heavyweight John IBBOTSON (subject to BBB of C licence)

Sheffield middleweight Dean Walker aims to bounce back from an unsuccessful challenge for the super-middle title by claiming the Vacant Central Area Middleweight Title on the first boxing event to be staged at the newly refurbished Silver Blades Ice Arena.

In the opposing corner will be former light-middle challenger and former British Masters Champion Lee Murtagh from Leeds.

Both men know this is a vital and must-win fight for them and both promise to go all out for title glory.

Moving up to 6x3’s level is unbeaten Sheffield Cruiserweight Simon Francis, (3-0) who will be looking to impress as more and more people are taking note of his progress. Francis is unfazed by all the talk of a spring showdown with local rival Neil Dawson, insisting on keeping his mind on one fight at a time. However, the Sheffield man is looking forward to the time when they do eventually meet in what is a highly anticipated local occasion.

Speaking of Dawson, he no doubt will want to impress also as he must now surely be on the verge of an Area title shot. Manager Chris Aston is convinced his man is the better fighter out of the two cruisers but opinions are split. Dawson is 6-0 and is coming off his first stoppage win after halting Greg Scott-Briggs.

Continuing his learning phase is Sheffield light-welter Ali. Now 4-0 after recently travelling to Scotland to win a four rounder against a welterweight, Ali is growing in confidence and is showing much improvement in each outing. Still only 19.

Another Sheffield man is Reagan Denton. Now 8-1, he needs to get active and with a couple of good wins, could find himself in championship class.

Doncaster’s Nicki Taylor could find himself in the fight of the night. This guy is a fighter that loves to go to war, a very exciting brawler with a great chin. After boxing as a light-heavy he’s down at super-middle now and is sure to feature in some great ‘tear ups’!

Providing his licence comes through in time, Sheffield amateur star John Ibbotson will be making his pro debut at light heavyweight.

It's great to see Coldwell continuing to plug Central Area title fights backed up by a competitive undercard.

We've got Eugene Maloney's excellent small halls in the south, Chris Sanigar keeping the game alive in the west, Dave Bradley turning out some exciting matches in the Midlands and Coldwell working wonders up north.

Who said Small Hall was dead?

You've got to say, he does put on some good shows. The atmosphere at the Brett James v Chas Symonds bout was fantastic, if a little intimidating, it was like a bear pit in there. Cracking fight too.

He doesn't get his shows televised (are any of them?) which is a great shame, because they would make for fantastic shows. Small hall shows can be a success, but without TV money, how much can Eugene be getting out of it.

Your right, but unfortunately TV demands bogus titles and boxers with records of 37-0.

The world of small hall boxing is about quality fights between well matched boxers. The matching is the key to unforgettable contests.

The fans who turn up for the glory nights and "occasions" just sneer at boxers who might have a record of ,say, 17-9.....but haven't bothered to research the fact the guy may well have boxed conistently tough opposition. All they see is the nine losses and think he must be shit.

I've been to a few of Eugene's shows and just don't want the evening to come to an end :D
