I got around to watching it last night, really enjoyed it, like others have said seems to be showing Boxing in a good light and shows there is much more to the sport than just two guys punching each other.
And that can only be a good think.
One minor gripe, the narrator/script writers lay it on a bit thick at times such as calling Audley Harrison a Boxing Legend.
I thought that too, but they have to sell the show to the casual sports fan.
What else are they going to say, former olympic champion, looking like he may be going nowhere in the pro game?
I think to most amateurs, Audley is a big deal too.
As you say, it shows that boxing is a martial art, as opposed to two blokes smacking the shit out of one another.
I've always thought it interesting how many parents send their kids to martial arts classes, who would never dream of sending them to a boxing gym.

That's what I assumed.

I take your point, maybe I was veiwing it with my 'Boxing Anorak' on!! But I stll think Legend was a bit strong (No offence to Harrison).

Intersting point, maybe it's because to the general public Boxing is seen as dangerous and 'dirty, whereas Karate is seen as noble and far more sophisticated etc.
Woodhall was excellent I thought, really fired up, didn't come to piss around, and yes he did use the F Word. Anyone know if he trains any lads at all?
Looked like Woodhall was still in fighting shape too, he was really giving it to them.
I thought that Danny's contribution was a bit odd, a bit of shadowboxing and staring at a poster?

I used to live near Richie and went to many of his early bouts including his Commenwealth Title win at Telford Ice Rink. Looking at him know it's hard to believe he turnes Pro as a Light-Middlewight. Nevelle Brown and Robert McCraken were often on the same bill. Great nights.
Richie did indeed look fit and well, I'm pretty certain that he sometimes helps his dad training amatuers. I was very impressed with the little we saw of him, seemed to me he knew excactly what he was talking about.
anyone else catch last nights? Good to see Ricky putting in an appearance, seems the boxing community are getting behind this show. Is it just me or do the scouse lads look a lot more convincing as boxers than the londoners? I think the final will be between Adam Izmail from the north and the tall blonde guy from the south (can't rememer his name). Joey Munro caught a lot of praise but to my untrained eye Izmail looked a bit better. Poor Marvin...
p[oor marvin, he wont giv eup though, belive the guy you mean is tony ? curly haired fella, the northern boys do look more "finished" but dont forget its onl the top one that counts so who knows. narrows down to 2 next week i beilive. nice programme gotta be good for the game.
Dint know David Haye was british champion now! as anyone informed hobson or Bruce Scott, coz there supposed to be fighting for it, Dec 17th, Huddersfield! Maybe Hayes gonna give it up for them...nice lad

Thats a good fight.
Yeah sometimes they do go over the top with their praise of the fighters, as much as I respect Woodhall and Khan the term legend applies to the likes of Leonard (Benny and Ray), Ali, Robinson, Duran etc.
Ricky Hatton is the most successful pro boxer in the UK, I'm not sure Calzaghe will agree.

Agree those two look like the best boxers, but they will probably go with entertainment value so it could be Munro versus someone like Doherty.
Is it only the best two who fight? It's a bit harsh on the other eight who have put in the training if they don't get a bout at the end of it.
Can't believe i started this thread but thus far have not watched a single episode of Boxing Academy! Almost every review i have read about it though has given it a good write up so it seems we are onto a winner....how is it progressing?

I'm really enjoying it to be honest, if all episodes were released on a DVD I would possibley pick it up.

Bollocks to Marvin...and he has got no heart.
Call me a conspiracy theorist but I think he was given the nod because they felt it was odd to have a boxing show without a black lad.
Some of my earlier estimations were a bit wrong, the more I see them, the lower my estimation.
Does everyone else question their training regimes, I mean "novice" fighters who have only got 6 weeks to prepare doing Ballet and dancing. I mean come on, get the buggers sparring, sparring, sparring.
Remember Gervias vs Bovey, Bovey was the fitter but Gervais won. One was in the ring all the time and the other was doing fitness stuff.
I just wish there wasn't an age bracket because I think a little tubby Welshman would have smashed them.
I can`t believe u guys like this shit....what r u watching ,a load of the most average boxer wannabees ever,Gyms up and down the country r full of fighters doing this for real...in real fights, all year round. This shite is dreadful and they r all poor,so can someone point out to me ...What is the point?
Tea dont be so blinkered mate, and cut it with superiority bullshit, cos the general public wouldnt know from looking at these boys who is good and who is bad.
Its raising the profiule of the sport to joe public and thats a good thing.
case in point my brother said "Boxing is coming back a bit hey"
Its also very entertaining, suppose we all dont watch it, no real boxing fans watch this ratings are poor they chop the show not more boxing acedemy reaching the man in the street. Nice one
come on open your eyes the sport needs as much exposure as it can get and we as fantatics should support it. comprendez?
