2009 National Pals In San Antonio Tx

Post by panhandle boxing »

What do expect to see this year in the pals? Will we see upsets or old champions pulling a comeback or last year champs winning it again? Give me your thoughts on how the pals is going to go this year.... Thanks

- You have to know who is in the tournament first. I belive a lot of the top ams will miss this because of a GB Dual at the same time, so a lot of guys have a chance to win this tournament.

okay that's true tho but what would mean more to them I knoe the dual would because of more ranking points but gas and money wise which one would be cheaper for them ??

The dual is cheaper since it is part of Team USA's competitions which are funded by the USOC. No funding at all for the PAL.

No I'm saying since the top 2 or 3 would not be there, a lot of boxers not currently ranked or in the middle of the top 10 will take this tournament. I do think it will be a good turn out, with it being in Texas instead of California, that could help becuase it won't cost as much to fly across the country if you were to live in say Ohio, Florida, or wherever. In fact, a lot of places could even drive there if cheaper than flying.

I know that PAL sends a team to the USA Championships, but how will the new weights determine who goes next year? The champions usually get to go, but since the top guys are not able to attend the PAL this year, and with the weight adjustments, will they still send a team? And who would represent the new weight divisions, (108, 115, 123) when there will be four champs this year (106, 112, 119, 125)? Anybody know?

Why wouldn't they? Not having the top guys participate this year, if such is the case, should have no impact on whether or not PAL sends a team to the Championships.

Texas may in fact have some champs here. Guys like Isaac Torres and Oscar Cantu may be the favorites in their brackets. Fowler too if he attends this tournament. But like I said, this is a year where upsets prolly and should happen, Torres is very beatable as is Cantu, so they could be bounced out early.

I knew Cochran was going but I didn't know Fowler was because of the 4th place finish at the USA's. As for 106, I think if Joshua Simmons or Marco Rangel is there they would win it over the Texas 106 pounder, but I don't know who is going to be. Last year only 3 competed at 106 and it was an easy tourney for Cervantes who won.
