I don't know but I read it in an article that was posted on the home page of boxrec about how Dino Duva came to the Olympics in Beijing to scout and established a relationship with the Chinese boxing federation and how svereral of them will be signing with him as pro's. They had Zhang working out with Lou Duva along with Al and Charles. Mooney does work more with pros now then he does with amateurs.Kolya wrote:JMac wrote:It's going to be a rematch of the Olympics 91+ kg match between Cammarelle of Italy and Zhang of China in the finals of the worlds. Cammarelle won 1-0. Must of been an exciting match to watchWe'll see how much Zhang's training in the US paid off since it looks like he is going pro with the Duva's with Al Mitchell and Charles Mooney training him. I guess Zhang will bypass the WSB.
Wow. How the hell is Coach Mooney ending up training Zhang?

I was surprised that Pedraza beat Selimov 9-5 and Nevin gave Abzalimov a close bout 5-4.Billy_kid wrote:JMac

yeah! McWiliams made it to the finals too
Re: World Championships 09
I made my predidctions after the 1st session was over and McWilliams had not boxed yet. They are boxing the 2nd session now and McWilliams did win 9-7 and I was wrong on the 2nd bout with the Russian Aloyan losing 8-7 to Nyambayar of Mongolia. So hopefully McWilliams will win the finals. They are boxing the 3rd bout now.Onekrazyrican wrote:yeah! McWiliams made it to the finals too

The Camarelle match lasted all of 10 seconds. One left cross, an eight count, and it was over.JMac wrote:It's going to be a rematch of the Olympics 91+ kg match between Cammarelle of Italy and Zhang of China in the finals of the worlds. Re: World Championships 09
Frankie Gomez up 2-0 after the first round.
Re: World Championships 09
Gomez scores a point late, tied at five after two rounds.
Re: World Championships 09
Kevin Rivers was the national champ and that was who was picked. Whatever you heard must of been wrong about him not going.panhandle boxing wrote:hey does anyone know how jerran chorchan got replace by kevin rivers ?? just asking cause I heard he was going??
Re: World Championships 09
gomez moves onto the finals with a hard fought, 8-7 win.
Re: World Championships 09
The result only said 1-0 not RSC, RSCH or KO. Not bad one punch, one win.therealPunchDrunk wrote:The Camarelle match lasted all of 10 seconds. The first super-heavyweight clash, between Olympic champion Roberto Cammarelle and Viktar Zuyeu of Belarus, was ended by the Italian in the first minute with a single straight left.
The damaging left jab destroyed his opponent completely and after the mandatory eight count Zuyeu's coach indicated with the white towel thez had seen enough. After the bout Cammarelle called his devastating left-hander a "Game Over" punch. In tomorrow's final he will meet Roman Kapitonenko of Ukraine, a surprisingly comfortable winner over Olympic silver medallist Zhilei Zhang.

Damn, I thought it would be few more years down the road before I became punch drunk but your right, Zhang lost. I read the results wrong. I guess that training in the US did not pay off.NYboxing wrote:From AIBA website:JMac wrote:It's going to be a rematch of the Olympics 91+ kg match between Cammarelle of Italy and Zhang of China in the finals of the worlds. I guess that is why he did not box in the Olympics. I never heard of him before. Mongolia has been producing some good boxers lately. They had 3 in the semi's of this tournament with two advancing to the finals.jtrex wrote:He is 17 years old???!!!!JMac wrote:He did not box in Beijing Olympics.Onekrazyrican wrote:Anyone has any info on the guy that beat the russian at 51kg and will fight Arroyo for the gold?
Re: World Championships 09
The report about Cammarelle's bout says it was a left jab. He is a southpaw so my guess is that he threw a left cross. That is his money punch as it is the same punch he KO'd the Cuban with in the Italy vs Cuba dual this year. Cammarelle obviously has some power. You can see that a lot of the opponents don't want to exchange with him. He is a big, strong, technically skilled SHW. He isn't super fast nor light on his feet, but don't get caught by one of his power shots.
Re: World Championships 09
Here's the schedule for the gold medal round tomorrow:
http://88.85.4.2/results-daily.fwx?day= ... ion=&name=
Russia has 6 boxers remaining.
Ukraine, Cuba, Uzbekstan, Italy, Mongolia and Puerto Rico have 2 each.
Four other countries have one fighter remaining: USA, Bulgaria, Germany, and Armenia.

Tunney what time do the fights start at Vancouver time? I have been mixed up by the time differences and missed out on some of the sessions.

Yes, it was a left cross. Strange that they could get that wrong on the AIBA website...Dennis wrote:The report about Cammarelle's bout says it was a left jab. McWilliams Arroyo joins Wilfredo Gomez as Puerto Rico's only world amateur champions! Hopefully Jose Pedraza joins them in a few minutes!
