You're forgetting Sheffield's star class ref, Davy Blunkett.

An unbeaten guy with 7 Wins 7 K0's record and you are saying you are surprised at the result in Essex.

Get the hell out of here  .
Are you referring to me?

Yeah, I was surprised. Like I say, I'm probably too naive. Or just like to see the best in people.

Maybe I'm just a sucker.
I think you are right to be surprised, most people are. Significantly the person most surprised was Fury himself because he knew he had lost. Titles are important even area ones, so one man shouldnt decide.

If Fury was a Warren fighter - then the board probably wouldn`t :(
But because he is not - they will make it asap

Let's see if we can get a lot of people voting on this thread.
I'm not going to vote, and I'll tell you for why.

1)...there should be NO mandated rematch, the decision should be scrapped and O Connor, binned, sent into enforced alternative work in disgrace.

2)...Obviously John won, but I don't think the fight should be totally reversed and awarded to him, you can't say to a bloke he won and then take it back, that's just wrong, so just declare the result VOID.

3)...Any self respecting fighter who won under those, IMO bent circumstances, should do the decent thing and offer a rematch in any case, which I think Tyson will do, WITHOUT the need for Board involvement. However, as somebody made the excellent point last night, if you were John Mcdermott would you really want it?? It must leave a horrible mental scar to win so well and then "not win"...to get up for that fight again, knowing that you might get stiffed must make it so difficult.
If I was John I would personally be looking at sueing the Board, although I expect they have some sort of clause built into his licence which would prevent him from being able to do this.

I'm going to go back on what I said, based on the above, and say NO - I don't think the board should get involved, just bin O Connor......unless Ian you are saying declare the title vacant and order a rematch, but you didn't say if that's what you meant so I'm voting no.

I agree void would be the right solution. Fury didnt celebrate because he knew he had lost. It must be hard for him having the title and knowing he didnt win it. I think a rematch has to happen, but can McDermott believe if he wins he gets the decision.

Let me ask you British fight fans. I just saw this result and noticed it was based on one referee's score. Does the system of letting one man judge the fight, who should be busy refereeing, bother you fans at all? Seems like a lot of pressure for one man considering handling 2 fighters in the ring is enough work in itself.

I agree, but for area titles the ref scores the fight and there are no judges. Only when fighters are in British and commomwealth fights and above are judges used. Seems wrong that one man decides, but area titles dont usually have too much significance. In this case Tyson Fury was a high profile fighter and although it was only for the English title, it was seen to be as big as say the British or even European titles. Fury and his father were talking about taking on any HW in the World and beating them. With 7 fights all won by stoppage on National TV Tyson Fury was a big name.

I will answer the the question in the title of the thread:

We all know there should be a rematch.

We all heard what Fury had to say after the fight - but I am willing to bet Hennessy will not risk one of his flagship fighters again and in addition I am also willing to bet Fury will get a couple of easier fights now.

I have also got to say whilst I expected Fury to win easily which clearly did not happen I was impressed how he dug in - he got hit with some big shots and yes he should have been the loser but he showed grit and determination and for that he should be applauded.

I think the fight was a draw, I've seen the fight again and I still score it 5 rounds each, boxing is scored per round isn't it and not punches thrown? (I know slightly sarcastic but it is per round).

I had Fury for rounds 1, 2, 7, 9 and 10 and John the rest which equalls a draw, right?

It's not amatuer boxing where they count punches thrown, how I see it is John could of hit Fury 100 times in one round but t doesn't mean that he should of won.

Because I see it as a draw I would say that they should maybe have a rematch even if I don't generally boxers should have rematches.

No, he certainly isnt finished but he and his father will have to be more humble from now on. Tyson Fury is definately not the next comming. Fury definately needs a better trainer who can develop the improvements he needs. I cant see him at World level blasting out Russians and Yanks but given time he could get the British title. McDermott was to Fury as Thompson was to Haye (a big step up too soon) but I dont expect Fury to go as far as Haye has.

Actually I don't think the title should be declared vacant or the match declared a no contest.

I just think the Board should order a rematch because the verdict seemed so unfair, simple as that.

Even if you think the title should be vacant you've said there should be a rematch so you should have voted yes! :TU:

Smoggy,

Answer me this - regardless of what Tyson Fury wants do you honestly think "Meaty Mick" will allow a rematch when the hype theoretically can continue with a couple more easy type fights?

Got to disagree because quite simply to have a sanctioned rematch by the board would be to say, we accept that that farce is a part of boxing and will continue to support the sport.....

whereas I do not accept what happened last night should be part of this sport I love, I want to see O'Connor sacked and the title declared vacant.

John Mcdermott should not get back in the ring to face Fury with Fury as Champion.

Do I need to remind you that in a fight 98% of people thought Mcdermott won, Terry O'Connor scored 80% of the rounds in Fury's favour. That is UNACCEPTABLE.

I think you're right mate. That's why I think the Board should say that he can't fight for another title until he faces John McDermott. So he might bang out another few Hungarians or whatever but once that toe wants to be dipped back in title waters, he has to face the Hornden Headbutter first.

The board need to step up to the mark due to the outcry I think and try and get a rematch sorted.

O'Conners card was a disgrace and if you watch the fight thoughout he was on McDermott's case much more than Fury's for niggling little things, nothing huge but words were spoken after clinches and such.

For what its worth I had McDermott 2 up going into the 9th but gave Fury both the last two, (so scored it a draw) did not want to as McDermott is a nice fella added to the few quid I had on him so I consider my card not biased in anyway but judging by the majority possibly wrong.

Felt McDermott was in charge and then all of a sudden he started touching gloves after little misdemeanours from either man, also the anger he seemed to have early subsided and I thought Fury was genuinely in trouble until that point, up until then he realised he had a grown man in front of him who wanted to tear his head off and was struggling to handle it.

The aura around McDermott changed for me and the nice guy returned, Fury regrouped and won 9 and 10 and the rest is history.

Rematch with a ref acceptable to both, would be what is needed, personally and probably quite strangly I think Fury will win the next fight and possibly correctly this time with something in hand.

I really enjoyed the fight but once again the man in the middle has spoiled the whole thing with the card, what happened?

Have a view but not one that I will be putting up here due to it being likely to be taken down and defammatory so will keep it to myself.

Hope we get the rematch and hope it lives upto what was a very very good heavyeight fight for me.
