Re: FRANK MALONEY RELEASE ON MCDERMOTT-FURY
I fully back Frank Maloney. Something has to be done. I think the fight needs to be declared void and the title made vacant. O Connor should lose his license for incompetant scoring because so many of us cannot possibly be wrong. Maloney is rightly concerned about the reputation of the sport going downhill if the board decide to take no action. Its not a controversial decision, that suggests the scoring was close and the fight could have been given either way, but 98-92 in favour of Fury is either corrupted scoring or incompetant scoring, anyway you look at it. I agree it could set a prescident which means the board will have to look at any future cases of outrageous scoring. The board must use its powers and be seen to be fair and firm regarding all who are involved in the sport. When Frank gets people asking him if boxing is fixed, to my mind thats pretty serious and cannot be dismissed. He needs to be able to say we have a strong board that will investigate all wrong doings. We cant have refs who help out betting organisations or are intimidated by individuals. This ref had history with the McDermott family which should have been declared. All refs must be above any influences and corruption and be totally accountable to the board. The board appoints refs for fights and they have to be held responsible to sort the mess out in the event of a highly controversial decision. This fight is a special case and it would be wrong to do nothing and just move on.
Re: FRANK MALONEY RELEASE ON MCDERMOTT-FURY
You will have to ask Fury thatHow much would a ref get for a fight like this, anyone know ?
Re: FRANK MALONEY RELEASE ON MCDERMOTT-FURY
Lets help him get this review then.. Here's a petition online calling for a review of Terry O'Connors judging skill and status as a ref.Finch wrote:I would love it if you got the board to change the result. Can't really see anything happening though unfortunately.
Good luck....... something needs to happen !

Sign it and we can get it sent to the BBB of C with enough signatures.

I'm going to go out on a limb here and say that if the shoe was on the other foot, and McDermott got the best of a horrible decision, maloney would be justifying the decision and telling us all on the interview how close a fight it was and it could have went either way. Then he'd come on and blast the "anoraks" who were criticizing the fight and tell us that it was a close fight and a rematch will be ordered and that we should respect the decision of the referee.The_Don1 wrote:Good point, as much I think McD won the fight and I support Maloney in what he's doing...its a bit rich for him to slag off forum users for their opinions on things he doesn't agree with or things he thinks shouldn't concern them...and them come running the same internet forum for support for his cause.Counter-puncher wrote:I would be interested to hear what Frank's opinion of all us internet 'anoraks' is, when we are doing something he agrees with. Maloney has every right to be annoyed - he paid good money to get the fight in the first place - not only was McDermott cheated so was Maloney as he was the one who pays the wages - very sad night for boxing.

Thats the whole point, had McDermott got the decision, whatever was said would be irrelevent, who would really care. Its the fact that the clear winner didnt get the decision that has sparked all this off.opticald wrote:I'm going to go out on a limb here and say that if the shoe was on the other foot, and McDermott got the best of that decision, maloney would be justifying the decision and telling us all on the interview how close a fight it was and it could have went either way. Re: FRANK MALONEY RELEASE ON MCDERMOTT-FURY
No my point is if Fury outboxed McDermott and got robbed, Maloney would be trying to justify it. I remember Lee Meager got robbed against Danny Hunt and Maloney said in the post fight interview, when asked if there would be a rematch "Well we're looking to move on to bigger things". He had no problem justifying that decision.WildWaylon wrote: Thats the whole point, had McDermott got the decision, whatever was said would be irrelevent, who would really care. Re: FRANK MALONEY RELEASE ON MCDERMOTT-FURY
Corruption, biase, fear of retribution or incompetance, who knows. McDermott won according to 99.9% of those who saw the fight and something needs to be done. I am sure he lifted the arm he wanted to lift. Its mainly the score thats the problem. A point or at most two and although we may have disagreed, nobody would be making a big fuss about it. Most would say "oh well the ref saw it a little differently". Its friggin impossible to come up with those scores as a pro referee without without something infuencing your decision, thats why it must be looked into.BIGMARK wrote:I read before the fight that large amounts of money amoungst the travelling community (which both fighters are conected to) had been been bet on the outcome. I am not saying the Ref was bent or crooked but there is "something rotten in Denmark" as there is no way Fury won that fight. I would say if the Ref was bent he would of surely made the score look closer so unless he just raised the wrong guys arm by mistake (there arms were tangled at the end of the fight). Of course if he made such a mistake it may of been a case he didnt have the balls to correct as the scores were right just the wrong way round, still its all very odd.

I see your point and I suppose its just human nature when things go in your favour. Had things happened the way you suggested hopefully we would be just as outraged and still demanding O Connor be banned/diciplined or whatever.opticald wrote:No my point is if Fury outboxed McDermott and got robbed, Maloney would be trying to justify it. We all certainly would, just as we were all outraged over the Danny hunt vs Meager fight, but Maloney wouldn't.

Re: FRANK MALONEY RELEASE ON MCDERMOTT-FURY
Yeah Fury wasn't as good as the hype going around about him but he stuck in there - that fight last night would have been bloody good for him - we will see if he has learnt in his next fight or should I say his next test - to completely write him off is an insult to a good performance by McDermott who lets face it the majority of us thought would get blasted out of there.funso banjo baby wrote:fury circus is over

Fury stuck in there unlike the likes of Audley - it was a decent fight.

Do you and others see no merit at all in Fury's performance?Coco wrote:In fairness Funso has always said what he is saying now, one of the few to get it right
Re: FRANK MALONEY RELEASE ON MCDERMOTT-FURY
I see merit in that he has proved himself as a fringe domestic contender. Most fighters would give their right arm to attain that standard.Spud wrote:Do you and others see no merit at all in Fury's performance?Coco wrote:In fairness Funso has always said what he is saying now, one of the few to get it right
However it does show he is a long way off doing anything near he said he would, and McDermott has put that in perpective. Fury will be lucky to win a domestic title. Short arms Hennessy will have to dig deep to manouvre him now.
Re: FRANK MALONEY RELEASE ON MCDERMOTT-FURY
From what i've been led to believe with all the hype that comes with him, the only thing i can credit him for was staying the distance, other than that....
Re: FRANK MALONEY RELEASE ON MCDERMOTT-FURY
Agreed, i have also maintained that Fury has been overrated and over hyped. He has so many technical difficencies and these were exposed last night. He doesn't move his head nor his body to get any leverage in his shots. When in a clinch last night he was all arm, doesn't manouvre his body at all. His power up until now has been vastly overhyped. McDermott walked through everything Fury had last night. He didn't utilise his reach advantage, probably due to the fact that he doesn't have much strength and is wild with his shots leaving himself exposed to get tagged, which McDermott obliged at will.jBacca wrote:From what i've been led to believe with all the hype that comes with him, the only thing i can credit him for was staying the distance, other than that....
It was clear towards the end of the fight that he had nothing left (except for the odd burst off arm swining here and there) questioning his stamina, but fair play to him for getting through it having never seen round five before. The one thing i will give him credit for is for taking the shots of McDermott, though he's hardly a renouned puncher. He got bullied last night against a much much smaller guy, given the size difference this shouldn't be happening if he claims he's world class.
He wouldn't see round five again if he got in with a world class fighter, can you imagine what Vitali or Wladamir would do to him with their thunderous jabs given that McDermott's jab caused him problems all night.
You gotta love his profile on Mick's website, claiming he's causing as much of a stir as his namesake.
The one thing that was confirmed last night is that sooner or later this big gobshite is going to come a cropper. He claims no one will fight him, but they'll be queing up now so it'll be interesting to see what path he takes and whether he continues to progress at the pace he has. He won't be going far and he'll have woken up on this morning with a reality check clouding his belt.
New Press Release Re McDermont vs Fury
MALONEY CALLS FOR PUBLIC ENQUIRY
FRANK MALONEY wants the British Boxing Board of Control to hold a public enquiry over the ‘Furygate’ scandal.
Maloney has already demanded that the Board amend the result of Tyson Fury’s controversial English heavyweight championship points win over John McDermott.
He wants McDermott handed the win or the result changed to a ‘no-contest’ following referee Terry O’Connor’s performance.
Maloney wants an open book on any hearing the BBB of C stage into O’Connor’s 98-92 score in favour of Fury at Brentwood Arena on Friday.
Maloney said: “I have spoken to the Chairman of the Board, Charles Giles who has informed me that the Board are making the matter their priority on Monday morning.
“This has done the biggest damage to British boxing since I fell in love with the sport at the age of ten.
“This is something the Board cannot brush under the carpet. I am going to ask that any enquiry into the fight is held in public – not behind closed doors like a gentleman’s club.
“That way there are no secrets and the public can see that the self appointed governing body are open and fair with all licence holders. It will also help restore confidence after this debacle.
“If The Board think they can order a rematch and that I will then go away happy then they can think again.
“When I paid a record purse for an English title fight I expected fair play. I never got it, paying customers never got it, Sky television viewers never got it and most of all John never got it.”
Maloney has also been amazed by the reaction on internet forums worldwide and Britain’s national newspapers.
He revealed: “I was in my office at 8.30am on Sunday morning and one of my e-mail boxes was full of comments about the decision.
“There has been mass support from posters on numerous internet sites who are angry over the result.
“I was even stopped during a shopping trip on Saturday afternoon and when I went to my local Chinese restaurant later in the evening with people asking what the scoring was all about.
“National Sunday newspapers have even given the scandal coverage as it is obvious John McDermott has suffered an injustice.
“This isn’t just going to go away and I won’t allow it to until justice is done.”

Re: New Press Release Re McDermont vs Fury
I love how Maloney kicks up a big fuss and makes plenty of press releases calling for justice when his fighter is on the recieving end. But when his fighter is the one who gets a shocking decision he has no problem justifying the decision in the post fight interview (Danny Hunt vs Lee meager).

Those are the 2 lines that jump out at me, good on you Frank......you have been left with no alternative course of action.
Any rematch with Fury as champ would be farcical and a massive dodge. This fight should and HAS TO BE declared VOID. Due to the sheer fact that Fury was awarded EIGHT out of ten rounds in a fight he clearly LOST.
If it doesn't get made void then I expect Brook Jennings to be the last boxing match I attend as the sport will be ADMITTING that it is a JOKE!

obv but im sureyou wouldnt complain if ie (if u support chelsea and drogba dives in the last min too get a pen and win but if it was the other way round you would kick up a stink) dodgy refs and decisions need to be stopped and the time to do something is now.opticald wrote:I love how Maloney kicks up a big fuss and makes plenty of press releases calling for justice when his fighter is on the recieving end.
