thanks Astro, a POV from somebody in attendance just serves to verify (not that it were needed) what dozens of us have been saying.

I've just picured O'Connor raising a sheepish Fury's hand again.....sickening.

I couldn't remember that the English title was just decided by one man, rather than a panel of judges........maybe it wouldn't have made much difference......you'd only need 2 of them to be on the take, which it looked to me that O Connor was, for the outcome to be just as dire.

I don't know whether it was shown on TV, but Fury got a HUGE boo from the audience. Makes me think even his own fans were pissed off. :KO:

Lads lets be real here.

Nothing will happen. All of this talk on a message board, is irrelevant to the people who matter in the situation. O Connor was a complete joke last night and robbed McDermott and by the way, you could tell by the look on his face after the fight that he knew what he had done.

But we've been here before. Dave Parris, we all know about. Paul Thomas gave dimitrenko the fight against Chambers in a shocking call.

What happens? They turn up for work next week with the same smirk on their fat faces and nothing happens. O Connor turned a lot of casual fans off the sport with his conduct and he should be ashamed of himself. Of course, the fat f*ck is probably delighted with his wallet full of money this morning.

this is a rough old game with some "questionable" people about, I've always been amazed by individuals who have NO trouble _ucking with other peoples lives in general, never mind in an industry/business full of shall we say "potentially volatile individuals and some of their people..."

are they Not Scared, the Parris', O'Connor, Warrens and whom ever.

Live fair, treat honestly and give people, industry, life, work, sport, business whatever the privilege of the best of people and qualities.

Get him/them to _uck!

what a unprofessional man - if that is the reason - this is supposed to be professional sport - you cant let personal feelings get invovled.

Just a qucik question for those in the know

Was Terry O Connor the British judge who scored the first Lennox Lewis V Evander Holyfield a draw - costing Lewis the win that he deserved - and afterwards Lewis branded him a "lousy" fight Judge.???

I cant remeber - but I know it was deffo a British judge who scored it a draw much to Lewis disgust.

Maybe Lewis forgot to hold the door open for him at the hotel before the fight or something petty like that.

So this petty Ref / Judge decides to rob him of the biggest win of his career that he has been working hard all his life to achieve

Let's not put all the blame on O' Conner it's the system that's wrong,I think most would agree his handling of the fight was 1st class he should not be in the position of judge & jury it's long overdue in Britain to have three judges for every pro fight.
The ref should be in there only to see the the fight is conducted within the rules, It still won't answer all the questions but at least it will be better than what we have now

I didn't know McDermott's dad beat him. The Board should be shot for allowing him to referee McDermott's fights. I've seen some bad decisions in my time but that was pathetic. I know it's easy watching on TV like I did to get wrapped up in the commentary but McDermott landed all the clean punches, he outjabbed the bigger man and apart from the last two rounds where Fury fought quite well, John romped to a four/five round win in my book.

Referee's scorecard was absolutely outrageous and fact that not one person on this post has even played devil's advocate pretty much says it all.

Embarassing.

Fair play to Fury for stepping up though because even though he (unofficially) lost, he'll have learnt more in that fight than all his seven fights together. But also, he's hardly the second coming is he.

I think you're right mate. Ironically, if we'd have had three judges and asked how O'Connor refereed afterwards, I think most of us would have said he'd done a good job. Was his best reffing for ages - the way he dealt with the tempers flaring after the second round was great.

But dear me...I was saying to my mrs after round nine that it wouldn't surprise me if Terry gave it a draw, even though I had McD a few up. Was shocked by the raised arm, thinking, well if he saw three rounds differently to me, could be 96-95...but 98-92?

Hey, big respect to John Mc. Boxed very nicely from the first bell.

Whilst O'Connor had a nightmare and the result was a disgrace - with that said I do not like the hatred that is being shown towards Terry.

If you took the time to speak to him he is top fella and he can take criticisms and direct questions bloody well!!!

I do not like to see anyone out of a job - life is hard enough as it is.

Its not us who should circle him like a pack of vicious starving wolves - its up to those spineless ****s at the BBBofC to take any appropriate action - lets see if they do.

Take time to speak to him then Spud, and direct some questions his way.

This is also McD's livelihood we are talking about as well.

Hey mate!!!

John McDermott will come on leaps and bounds from that fight have no fear about that!!! - I keep saying it - it was an awful decision and very bad for boxing but "hanging out" O'Connor to dry is not the solution - it is up to the BBBofC to do their job.

precisely, Mcdermott should get O Connor in court and sue him for lost earnings, forget getting the sleeping Walrus in for a rematch...he's not short on evidence FFS.

What is the incentive for a kid to get into boxing?? seriously, what the f*ck is the incentive after that? This sport is a joke.

Agree with what you say, its up to the BBBoC, and it has resembled wolves attacking prey here since the decision.

Having said this - for me anyway, its not a "knee jerk" reaction over the course of this one fight. I think he has "lost it" as a ref for a good few years now. Just my take. I think Dave Parris and John Keane should lose their star status also. Everyone's entitled to an off night, but these 3 have to many. Joe Cortez, as great a ref as he was in his pomp, is one from the world scene who has lost it.

It rediculous that this year we've lost a good referee in Micky Vann, but Parris, Keane and O Conner are still on the circuit as 5 stars.

I'm sure Terry O Conner is a nice guy, but it a job at the end of the day. Plenty of nice guys lose jobs through incompetence. It shouldn't go personal, but it is bad when (for these three refs) I am saying "oh god" during the announcements.

I think we have a good batch of young refs coming through... I hope the board look at promoting these to 5 star.

On a different note, did anyone see when Edison Miranda fought in London... Steve Holdsworth made so many digs on Eurosport about that Londerner referee. I'm sorry not sure of his name, black guy (not Ian John). He was really questioning his competency, even after a good showing "I cannot believe it... the ref (he did say his name) saw the fight the same way as me". Clearly no love lost there.

Its a difficult one, that could end up being very expensive for the board. Spud's highlighted the close nit community that is British boxing (exclude the promoters). So suggestions of having say other refs review each others work to the board is going to be difficult - it would be like grassing on a mate.

Maybe a scenerio if any promoter/official makes 3 complaints about a referee/judge in a year - or say 5 all together - then the performances of this referee will be reviewed by an independent panel (not affiliated with the BBBoC) - e.g. USA refs. If the panel uphold the decision on ALL of these complaints, then the ref/judge will be punished - either banned, suspended or lose a status. The ref will be made aware each time a complaint is made... so they will know if they are one complaint away from being reviewed.

Problem with that could be if the complaint is made on a non TV show.
