Danny Williams - brave as hell - but brutally outclassed and busted up by Vitali Klitschko
Clinton Woods - tough and brave effort - but no hope of making much dent in prime Roy Jones - as he was systemically broken down by the pound for pound king - credit to Clinton though he emerged from the fight with credit and didnt disgrace himself even though he was throughly outclassed.
Enzo Maccarenelli - pherhaps the most painful example more than all of the above - because unlike the other huge underdogs above who were expected to be totally outclassed - Maccarenelli was hyped up as a world class operator - who was in a 50 / 50 fight with David Haye. The reality was of course - Maccarenelli was more a British / Euro level glassed jawed journeyman - and he had about a 10% chance of winning that fight. A decent fighter at the lower levels but woefully thrown in too deep - not just against Haye in the ring - but the whole massive promotion of the fight - it was a huge event - Evander Holyfield and Frank Bruno and Simon Cowell and Janet Jackson and sharon Stone and Eva Longoria and Pamela Anderson and Jennifer Lopez and Mark Anthony and Bruce Willis and David Beckham and John Terry and Frank Lampard and Paul Daniels and Melaine Sykes and Katie Price and Joe Calzaghe and Emma Jo Larvin and Peter Andre and Cherhyl Cole and Amanda Holden and Kylie Minogue and Ant and Dec and Ashely Cole and Chris Eubank and Amir Khan and Wayne Rooney and Tom Hanks and Derren Brown and Kelly Brook and Liz Hurley and Lily Allen and Andy Murray and Elton John and Claire King and the late Jade Goody (Childhood friend of David Haye went to School together) and Russel Brand and Dizzee Rascal and Tinchy Strider and Jennifer Ellison and Jude Law and Steve Jones and Colleen Rooney and Davina McCall and Joe Cole and Carly Tucker and Sarah Harding and Kim Kardshian and Ian Wright and Bruce Forseyth and Philip Schofield and Jason Stratham and Laila Rouass and Gary Barlow and Paul McCartney and Madonna and Lewis Hamilton and Nicole Scwinzager and Linford Christie and Shaq O Neil and Jay Z and Beyonce Knowles and Mariah Carey and Sean Combs and Whitney Houston and Prince Harry and Chesly Davy and Richard Branson and Philip Green and Kate Moss and Nigel Benn were all in the crowd for the big "event" it transcended boxing and was a massive night out for so many people - they even had ferries shipping people down the London Thames Rivers as even nice women who have no intrest in boxing came to the O2 to see this massive event and
HBO american TV had come over to cover the fight and Lennox Lewis and Steve Cunnigham were wacthing on TV giving their pundit advice to TV stations and everyone was expecting a "super fight" - David Haye was loving it the chance to shine he had never been in a fight so big and was loving the attention of being on the big stage he calmly walked to the ring dancing and smiling and took his time as he soaked in the atmosphere loving the fact that his hero Holyfield was in the crowd and had come to watch him a younger generation fighter now ruling over the division that Holyfield had once ruled - Haye was loving it - not to mention he wasbeing paid a handsome £700,000 - £1,000,000 for his nights "work" Haye had the look of a man calm and assured and looked like he was at ease and was a man for the big occassion but come fight night Maccarenelli was terrified at what he had got himself into and shit himself and ran to the ring and got blasted away and exposed as a journeyman. Woefully outclassed. And I think he could have done alot better had he come into the fight and kept his compsure and been geniunely confident but he was exposed as being "mentally weak" as David Haye said after their stare down at the weigh in - Enzo was stressed his hair was all messed up and he looked like a condemned man as Haye launched powerful fight ending right hands. No wonder Maccarenelli felt complety out of his depth - while Haye had been in glamrous Miami Florida sparring with tough pro heavyweights and the people in the crowd were glamorous successful multi millionares and billionaires from the world of sport showbiz and business and politics and royalty - Maccarenelli had prepared for the fight doing training down the Calzaghe rugby shed doing some light sparring with Bradely Price and Gavin Rees and he could only do that when Rees and Price bothered to turn up for training - the other times Rees and Price would be down the Pub or Playing their computer or something - thats how amateur the Calzaghe Camp are
