Thats one thing I noticed - he kept flicking his head to get hair out of the way.

Another few points - a few already mentioned....

Fury really does need to work on his fitness - he's too pear shaped for my liking.

He doesn't punch as hard as as his record implied.

But he can take a tidy dig.

Big John deserved the decision by 2/3 rounds by my reckoning, although I'll be watching it again this afternoon.

And why was there only the referee scoring this fight :witzend: I know its only a minor title at stake over 10 rounds but surely they could've used 3 judges ???? Is there a reason for this ??????????????

I'm totally disgusted with the outcome.
I never thought I'd say this, but that was worse than Barnes v Vincent.
Those that know me, will know that I don't shit stir - but let me throw this one in.
Guess which referee got ko'd by McD's old man ?
Revenge is sweet so they say.
Time for a redundancy payment if you ask me.

I've never really been sold on Fury, he should have beaten McDermott quite comfortably if he has any title aspirations this year as he and his team have been talking.

The major plus point for Fury is that he is still young and can learn so he should get back in the gym, get into some sort of shape instead of carrying that blubber about, forget about titles for a year or so and just concentrate on improving his fitness and boxing ability.

All we've had from Fury so far is a load of mouth and not enough menace.

McDermott was just leaning on him the whole fight throwing short punches, Tyson was garbage but he must have thrown twice as many punches.
Jesus. He threw more but they were of really poor quality. He landed with fewer. McD was far more accurate.

Hang on....'fatman'...Terry does carry a few extra pounds

I'm not biased to either fighter, but decisions and scoring like that are damaging to the sport of boxing, it almost makes me not want to bother with it any more. O'Connnor needs to get to SpecSavers sharpish.

Maloney got it spot on in his interview after the fight. The BBBofC need to leave him alone and put their energy in to sorting out their own house and coming up with ways of making sure that these sort of 'mistakes' are eradicated, as they are not good for the sport.

It was a 100% bonafide robbery, 98-92 was a joke scorecard.

BIG John surprised me last night, he put in an excellent performance and won the fight comfortably. Learnt alot about Furys limitations last night

The scoring was about right. Problem was, it was the wrong way round.

The ref should be suspended. Who wants to see a sport where the winner loses. Over the years I have seen many bad decisions but that has to be the worst yet bearing in mind the scores. You cant say the decision was controversial, that suggests the fight could be given either way. In this case there was a clear winner and that was John McDermott.

In such circumstances - where the ref scored it so heavilly in the `wrong` guys favour, then maybe its about time the board started to revoke the refs licence in much the same way as they would a boxer who proved so inadequate.

Agreed. Even somebody who knew little about boxing and couldnt hear the commentry would have given the fight to McDermott.

Seems like the ref was trying to avoid that by awarding the fight to Fury.

What he said. I saw Tyson slipping away moving into 2nd half of an even contest, then rallying to raise the pace and eventually ending on top - Tyson by 2 but would see a case for MC by 2. O'Connors card was bad.

Fury can't beat McDermott, he wont beat Sprott, he wont beat Danny Williams (if he was up for it), he wont beat Skelton, he wont beat Rogan, he wont beat Aduley and he wouldn't beat Sexton.

He's not even going to make an impact at domestic level.

Fury has had 8 fights, don't you think that he might improve just a bit?

Are people taking this Fury/Mcdermott/O'Connor item too far?

Post by Chris W 1982 »

Ok people the scores werent 98-92 but is this fight as big as robbery as some people are making out? Some are acting like it was worse the Jones Jnr in 88.

I scored the fight 96-94 for Fury. Some rounds were close and Big John won his rounds more cleanly but it was definitely a Fury win.

Was O'Connor swayed by the volume of punces thrown by Fury?????? Both landed roughly the same but Tyson threw over 200 shots more. Was his workrate impressing the judges?????

Tyson is a good prospect and deserves alot of credit for taking this fight. Id hate for him to be a victim cos of it.

By the way, well done John McDermott. I thought you'd have a chance if it went to the later stages. Your a good competitor and i hope you get a rematch.

heres how i think the o'connor scored the fight the first 4 rounds we scrappy could of gone either way and he scores them all to fury round 5 fury 6 and 7 to mcdermott and fury winning the last 3 partly because mcdermott turned his back

i agree people are taking it to far the reason being tyson talked himself up so much that the only way people were not gonna slag im off was if he kod mcdermott with the 1st punch he threw. this was his 1st 10 rounder and first time past four round he deserve a great amount for talking the talk and walking the walk by taking the fight with mcdermott i personaly had it mcdermott by a point but wasnt shocked fury getting the nod the scoring was off but what a great fight

Yes they are taking it to far, it isn't like it was a 10rnd hammering. Arrange the re-match with a different ref for a couple of months time and quit all this nonsense of McDermott retiring and Maloney trying in vain to get the result overturned.
