Eh? Like Amir Khan, who gets booed by Mancs at his own weigh in and boxes for a world title with 15,000 unsold seats and a total PPV flop?

I think Haye will never be that popular, he's an exciting boxer but like Carl Froch lacks any warmth or personality, come across as arrogant and slightly unhinged, inherently unlikeable people (on TV at least, maybe nice in person).

We've just come through (fingers crossed) one of the worst recessions in recent history, how could Booth have predicted that, along with the demise of Setanta?

Boxing's just not mainstream in the UK anymore, once Hatton departs, the only relatively well known boxer to Joe Public will be Amir Khan, and that's got nothing to do with Warren and everything to do with his olympic exposure.

What I saw on Setanta from Hayemaker was absolutely top drawer, put 90% of Wazza's piss-poor shows to shame.

If Setanta had the time to grow boxing, build up the Hayemaker stable, Booth and Haye would've done right by the fighters and the fans.

I don't see any reason to have a pop at Booth or Hayemaker for past and current circumstances, shit happens.

Up until the Mormeck fight - Hayer done the right thing going his own path, etc

WBC / WBA Champion after 20 or 21 fights.

But when he balsted Enzo Macc away for the WBO strap and a cool £1 million - then he should have been prepared to work with allegedly from that point on a one fight to fight basis.

Warren offered him Matt Skelton for £600,000 to £700,000 - easy money - but Haye rejected it and Martin Rogan KO'd Skelton instead.

Warren promoted Hayes biggest fight ever - in terms of media and publicity and money - thats no concidenence.

Haye I believe has got the charisam , good looks, style - to be a star - but he needed a outfit like Sports Network to promote him.

Until the Maccarinelli fight, Haye was having virtually all of its fights either in leisure centres or at tiny venues like York Hall which hold less than 2,000 people. This is incredible really given how talented and exciting the guy is. While he may not have the lad next door personality that Ricky Hatton has, I would argue that he is a more exciting fighter who invariably delivers brutal knock outs. I hate to say this but if allegedly had been promoting him he would be a much bigger name now. The problem is he may not have got the opportunities for world title success so quickly.

The fact is that David Haye should be one of the biggest names in British sport but the reality is that outside boxing no-one really knows him. This is due to poor promotion.
I don't think anyone can really condem the job Maloney did. He got him a world title fight 10 fights after the Thompson one. Not any world title fight, but a mandatory shot against "the man" of the devision. Pretty good going.

I don't think that would have helped. They've gone the same way as Setanta and have left a number of people out of pocket (note to lawyers - nothing libellous there, its all in the public domain). Making no money for not fighting is probably better than making no money for winning!

Fighters who have shown genuine world class ambition and who haven't wanted to trick the fans, like Haye and Froch, I'm afraid have shown an aversion to FW. I know FW has apparently a new, improved, more ambitous stable of fighters, and they may well deliver.

FW used his column to chip away at Haye's reputation, claiming that Haye would get stopped by Mormeck, that he probably wouldn't even fight for a world title, that he had such bad hand problems that he might not fight again (a while before the JMM fight). You'd think some of the things he's written about Haye, that we would not get away with the equivalent if we wrote on here about FW.

I get the impression that some fighters are genuinely disgusted by some of the mismatches and lack of sporting action on FW shows, so why would they sign with him? Of course the big payday for the Mac fight that Haye got must have been a sweetener, and perhaps showed the way David haye could have gone.

But Haye seemed to think he'd won over Britain, claimed the big London arena, earned a world heavyweight title shot (all but), and that he could do it all on his own (relatively).

I would liked to have seen him stay with Fraink Maloney. fraink would not have let him go so inactive.

Adam Booth has done well with David Haye but i think any half-decent trainer would have done well too. Haye is a boxing prodigy, they were raving about him as a young amateur when he was wiping out grown men at the Fitzroy Lodge ABC so any good trainer that took him on would be where Booth is now. There's nothing special about Adam Booth IMO. Just David Haye.

Boxingmad,

Whilst to some Adam Booth can come across as a bit arrogant - and to be perfectly honest he is a nightmare to work for - but nonetheless he looks after his people very well indeed - that includes David Haye - Haye is let me tell you and others right now is the "Boss" - however whilst I appreciate your point that Haye is indeed a talent - but David relies heavily on the the support, advice, friendship and loyalty Booth has clearly shown to him - Haye listens to him and a couple of other members of the team.

Hayemaker are a closely knit team and whilst they view outsiders with suspicion and they are going through a hard time at present - I would not write them off just yet - there might be a little surprise just around the corner!!! :TU:

Decent London Amateur Boxer, nice bloke, knowledgeable and passionate about boxing. Does not have an inflated ego and takes critiscism like a man.

The business of boxing could do with more like him.

I find that David himself is a very approachable fella who comes across as very friendly indeed, and makes time for everyone. It's a shame that his career hasn't continued on the BBC or gone to ITV as he would undoubtedly be a huge name right now. He's also very good in front of a camera and speaks well. As the possible figurehead of British boxing (assuming he beats Valuev) it's important that he comes across well to the fans and I think he's doing that.
