Seems like a good arrangement, though I think the featherweights (old 57kg/125lb) have the most adjusting to do.

No, the bantams, 119 pounds (54 KG) have the most adjusting to do.One on One wrote:Yepkidneypunch wrote:so its 123 to 132 to 141?

Re: Rumors of the new men's weight classes for 2010
2 Kilos up or down. Not a huge deal. Some guys will love it, some will hate it. The last time the old 71kg class had a big issue having to lose 2kg or go up 4kg. The 67kg boxers had to go down 3kg or up 2kg and the 63kg boxers had to go down 3kg or up 1kg.teasy24 wrote:No, the bantams, 119 pounds (54 KG) have the most adjusting to do.
The last time it was 60, 63, 67, 71, 75 and changed to 60, 64, 69, 75. A 15 kilo spread for 5 weight classes becomes a 15 kilo spread for 4 weight classes.
This time 48, 51, 54, 57, 60 becomes 49, 52, 56, 60. A 12 kilo spread for 5 weight classes becomes an 11 kilo spread for 4 weight classes.
Re: Rumors of the new men's weight classes for 2010
I guess we know what weight classes will be in the USA Boxing rulebook for 2010. I guess all the tournaments in 2010 will have the new weight classes or at least they will start using them for the 2010 USA Boxing National Championships.
Re: Rumors of the new men's weight classes for 2010
My proposal a month ago was to eliminate the 48kg, 51kg, 54kg and 57kg weight classes and replace them with 50kg, 53kg and 56kg weight classes. That would leave us with 50, 53, 56 and 60 for the smallest 4. I was close. AIBA went with 49, 52, 56, 60.

Re: Rumors of the new men's weight classes for 2010
when is the new weight classes going to take effect in the US?
Re: Rumors of the new men's weight classes for 2010
USA Boxing hasn't made a decision yet. My guess is either January 1st or starting with the USA Boxing National Championships.adaboxer150 wrote:when is the new weight classes going to take effect in the US?
Re: Rumors of the new men's weight classes for 2010
They should start Jan 1st, especially if the Golden Gloves is before USA's. That wouldn't make since for the Golden Gloves to have 11 divisions only to see the next tourney have 10. But of course they would around 20 more particpants so I'll look forward to seeing the rules for 2010.
Re: Rumors of the new men's weight classes for 2010
It actually save tournaments money to have fewer weight classes. The Golden Gloves franchises would save money too by sending only 10 boxers instead of 11 (granted many already didn't send 11 b/c they didn't have a 106 boxer or boxers in other weight classes).
Re: Rumors of the new men's weight classes for 2010
This just my opinion!
K.I.S.S Keep it simple simon. Just cut 48kg and leave the rest alone!

Re: Rumors of the new men's weight classes for 2010
I don't think that works because it forces all the 106 fighters to move up to 112. That creates a lot of competition for limited places at 112 and would be a disadvantage to boxers at both weight classes. I think this new weight class system is pretty much fair to everyone.byrdman66 wrote:This just my opinion!

I disagree because the 112lb U.S. champion is really a 106 pounder1!!rmz wrote:I don't think that works because it forces all the 106 fighters to move up to 112. so why is he 112 ? thats dumb!! and why take out 106lb ? that weight class has alot of fighters maybe not in the US but over seas they do. In my opinion the weight change is great. dont be sad because your 112 really a 106'' have to move to 114

Re: Rumors of the new men's weight classes for 2010
Jeff - this may be perfect for Louie. Instead of making 48kg, he only has to go down to 49kg. The alternative is to go up to 52kg. Like you said, it doesn't make that much difference. I wish more boxers and coaches had that attitude.

I moved Louie to the 112Lbs weight class because we where not sure what the weight changes would be, figured that the 106/ 48kg would be gone, but agree the new weight class would be good for Louie.
