I feel sick after hearing this. This time in his life would have been so exciting - Olympic medal, the beginning of a pro career etc. so much to look forward to. Poor old Frank, he really loved his boxers. Unlike some of the other promoters on the scene today, Frank has actually laced on the gloves himself and knows what fighters go through, so has a bond with them that some of the other promoters/managers don't have so this will hit him very hard as he was very fond of Darren.

Also guys, is Maloney OK? There's an Irish blog (I'll post a link if people want) reporting that he was brought to hospital with a heart attack after finding Darren. I've not seen this elsewhere.

This type of tragedy brings the sport of boxing togther in grief and sadness. I think i speak for a lot of people, when i say that, although a lot of us did'nt know Darren personally, we are all touched by his death, whether it be a profound sadness or complete shock at the circumstances surrounding his death.

Reading all the tributes and heartfelt mesages left for Darren was very moving and it's times like this that i am so proud to be associated with the sport of boxing. Darren has left a great legacy and especially for kids of the future. His success as an amateur will provide inspiration for many youngsters, who will see what he achieved and hope to emulate it and be a part of this rather close knit family, we all call boxing.

In all seriouness, i am very proud to be a member of this site tonight, becasue you have all done Darren, Darren's family and friends proud, with the wonderful words and thoughts that you have all expressed. It's a pity that some of these posts could'nt be passed on to Darrens' family, so they could see how loved and respected he was and i'm sure, in time, it would be a great comfort to them

Just come in from a night shift and saw this on sky, absolutely gutted and so shocked, he seemed like such a happy go lucky guy and i always felt out of all the medalists he would achieve the most. I really am knocked for 6 by this, unbelievable.

Darren Sutherland looked solid and threw some great body shots during the fight. He continues to impress. I also discussed Boxrec with him

The above post was made at the end of May after his impressive display in Stoke. Darren was arguably the nicest and most approachable person in boxing. A softly spoken man who had great boxing knowledge. We discussed the rosey future of the middleweight scene. I am truly shocked. We lost a true gentleman yesterday. R.I.P.

I am absolutely saddened and shocked by this. Can't stop thinking about it and I never even knew the fella. My grandad committed suicide when I was 18 months old and everyone always tells me how he was the life and soul, what a great fella he was. I guess you never really know people.
My deepest, sincerest condolences go to Darren's family and friends.

RIP....A genuine talent with true world class ambition. With the world at his feet, who knows what demons haunted his mind. He posted on here i believe and always came across as an approachable and good man. I hope he finds the peace in death he obviously struggled to find on this earth. Terrible, terrible news, but maybe he is now in a better place and finally at peace. My thoughts go out to his family and friends.
