Re: R.I.P. Darren Sutherland
I think it is a measure of the friendly, sincere persona Darren had that so many have been touched by his death. I was stunned and sickened when I read it on Sky Sports last night.
Such a genuine fellow.
Every blessing to his family and best wishes to Frank who I hope is okay following his traumatic experience and related ill-health.
I hope he bounces back from it.

A softly spoken man who had great boxing knowledge. We discussed the rosey future of the middleweight scene. I am truly shocked. We lost a true gentleman yesterday. god bless darren..
may you rest in peace.
This can happen to any of us, the stress and pressure with everyday life can effect us all, and with boxing thats trebled,
we only hope young darren is at peace now. Blessed..

Re: darren sutherland is dead
Severe clinical depression driving someone to the point where not existing is better than existing. It's difficult to the point of impossible for non sufferers to relate. Thankfully 90% of people recover in time but it's estimated that 10% remain plagued no matter what is attempted. I feel so terribly sorry for Darren that he felt so helpless and sad that he came to the conclusion that taking his own life was his only option. We are of course completely ignorant of the facts and circumstances of Darren's life and could spend all day trying to theorise the factors. I hope that he feels better wherever he is now. May God love him. It's so sad I think I'm going to cry.J wrote:RIP Darren...shame what could have been ...........such a shame ..it perplexes me to what drives someone to take their own life..............RIP.
Re: R.I.P. Darren Sutherland
What a shame. He was so articulate and so promising. I can't believe it.
Re: R.I.P. Darren Sutherland
I'm gobsmacked, he was an excellent boxer and he always seemed a nice friendly bloke outside of the ring going by all the interviews I've seen of him
RIP Darren
Re: R.I.P. Darren Sutherland
No offense, but his poise and polish was way above the 3 PPV Amigos. From a selfish fan's POV this is a massive loss and he was probably the only Olympian to come out into the pros with a rounded style. He is also one of the few top Irish talents to get proper leverage into his shots.
I really thought he was going to the top. Many were starting to bemoan his methodical style, but IMO he had poise and control you don't normally see in fighters who have just turned pro.
What happened, how did he die? RIP Darren.
What absolutely horrible news.

My heart goes out to Darrens friends & family.
I've got a lot of sympathy for Frank Maloney as that must have been a god awful experience for him, it was clear to see that Frank thought alot of him as a boxer and a person
Re: R.I.P. Darren Sutherland
Eric.... if you read this please give frank our love and best wishes, from all on boxrec, those who know him, and those who dont.
as has been discussed, frank is a passionate man who loves his fighters like they are part of his family.
get well soon little fella.

RIP Darren. We were all expecting great things but sadly it is not to be. Another bad day for Irish boxing and boxing in general. My condolences to his family.
Re: R.I.P. Darren Sutherland
And Maloney had a possible heart attack after finding him? Shiit. What absolutely horrible news.
Get well soon Frank, so you can get back to work and so you can have a good row with us Internet wannabes.
I think many of us were pleased when Maloney secured Sutherland to the pros, because it would be a proper, purposeful learning curve for such a genuine talent. It sounded like a great combination, and I enjoyed watching Sutherland's fights, certain as I was that he'd go somewhere and not shortchange the fans.
