I didnt know Darren personally but i met him once at york hall after hes last fight. I saw him leaving,I shook hes hand and congratulated him for a good win and a really exciting fight. Darren took time to stop and have a chat with me, it was really interesting to see how he wanted hes career to go.
There was something special about Darren Sutherland. I was looking forward at seeing hes career unfold, sadly we will all just have to think off what might of been. Im sure he would of become a champion. I feel really sad that it came to this, im not sure what drove him to this and may nether find out but i cant imagine what was going throw hes mind to think that this was hes only way out.Im just pleased that i got to watch and meet him. All i can say is that R.I.P Darren "The Dazzler" Sutherland you will be missed.

RIP Darren, a sad loss of a talent, what always struck me only seeing him on tv was how he seemed very articulate and thoughtful and I like that in a boxer. Such a shame that this has happened.

My thoughts are with his family and all his training team and Frank Maloney of course. I am absolutely gutted, really liked Sutherland as a prospect and seemed a top lad.

Absolutely terrible news. :(

Had so much promise and so much to come. Not just in the ring but in life. 27 is ridiculously young.

It's been a bad year but this is the most shocking of all of Boxing's recent losses IMO.

RIP

In Las Vegas on a pay as you go internet connection so will say more on the blog on Friday but Darren was always such a postive amiable guy and had so much still to offer. He was my pick of the Olympians and his attitude was first-class. This is a real tragedy. RIP Dazzler.

PS: I'm going to try to speak to somebaody from GBP to give him a mention at the Mayweather-Marquez event but I won't hold my breath. Either way, a great guy and a terrible, terrible loss.

Feel sick to my stomach and I've never even met Darren but all I can say is he came across as such a humble, respectful and likeable individual- a true credit to our noble sport. R.I.P Daz, my thoughts go out to his family.

Also, get well soon Frank and my condolences for such a tragic loss.

Just a thought about Frank Maloney......

It must have been terrible for Frank and no wonder he ended up in hopsital. What a shock it must have been, to find Darren dead in his flat and in such awful circumstances. I would imagine that Frank is the type of guy who treats his fighters like family and i believe that Darren had stopped in Frank's house, when he first went down to London to train as a pro. I really hope that Frank is ok and recovers his health 100% and can return to the day job that he so loves doing. Frank lost someone close to him last night and a future fighter that he was slowly nurturing, he must be feeling pretty low at this moment in time.

Frank has seen the very highs of boxing with Lennox Lewis, something that can't ever be topped really and now he has witnessed the very worst and i really do feel for him at this moment in time. It certainly put's the Fury - McDermott fight in perspective, which Frank had been involved in on saturady night.

Hope you get well soon Frank, boxing needs characters like you in the game,

All the very best to you

Very wise words from Kerry Kayes. It's touching to see the support, and to see how many people had enjoyed spending time with Darren.
