Ali Buma-ye, buma-ye Ali Nuumbembe
tough kid, talented, got the short end of the stick over here....basically he was eligible to fight for just about f*ck all. He won the Commonwealth off Kevin Anderson....a bad day for Darlington bookies, having seen The Silent Assassin at close quarters as I had.
I was flabberghasted and amazed that Watson kept him at bay and beat him, flushing with blood though Ali was that night, but to be fair, Watson seemed to be coping admirably with the Glossop based Namibian before the gash opened over Nuumbembe's eye.
F*ck Matthew Hatton...for me, Craig Watson's reputation as a top domestic Welterweight was confirmed the night he took Ali's Commonwealth title.
Of course Ali eventually returned to his birth country, to re-join the Namibian Defence Force, at the peak of his boxing prowess, due to complications with his work permit over here...he had to make a certain amount of mony to stay, and unfortunately he wasn't doing it so I understand...and who can blame him, with the likes of Matthew Hatton calling for him in the media "a natural fight for the North West" yet seemingly unprepared to meet him where it counts, in the ring.
Of course, Ali suffered defeat on his home-coming......(at least the man hadn't given up on his dream)....losing to one of that continent's up and coming stars and Amateur Boxing Commonwealth star, I forget the name but I credit the Boxing News for the report. So I'm over the moon that this fighter has won this, on the face of it at least somewhat pretigious belt.
I am not alone in wishing this honest, hardworking, talented, popular and underrated boxer the best of luck for the future.
Well done Ali

No you are not. Does anyone know if the book on his life is still being written (chado?) ? If anyone doesnt know Ali's story its worth googling, he opens up in an interview to (I think) Terry D and discusses his childhood and the militants who plagued his country, and also how his father was basically killed through torture (as a result of anyway). Its no wonde Ali joined the military, and also went back to join again.
Big shout to Chad too, as the story of how Ali ended up in this country is also one well worth looking up!!!!

I interviewed Ali for thesweetscience.com about four years ago, crickey how times flies. Ali and Chad were two of the nicest guys you could ever meet.

He always said he wanted to go back and build boxing over there.
Fascinating country. Huge and yet no bugger lives there.

Good for Ali his opponent Samuel Malinga stopped lynes and bami when he came over here i thought he would be world champion but must of reached his level. Yes chad and ali have been very kind to me in the past when ali was in his caravan home. made some good press stories

I was at the Malinga v Lynes fight, poor Colin just couldn't keep him off. No matter what he tried Malinga just smashed his way through it.

SPOILER ALERT
Stopped in two against a man in his 6th fight on Friday! I assume as it was in Namibia no-one saw it but where does this leave him now?
