Kevin Mitchell boxed away from home for the first time and was given a decent test by Mounir Guebbas over six in Edinburgh.
The fight was originally scheduled for eight, but the way in which Mitchell began to slow in the closing two rounds made the decision to cut it down look a good one.
Mitchell won comfortably enough – 60-56 on the referee’s scorecard – but going the whole eight would have been a big step up for him.
As it was Guebbas, who finished the fight with his face badly swollen and blowing hard, may have struggled to see it through much further anyway.
Mitchell, who entered the ring to Supersonic by Oasis and not his usual Can’t Touch This, started brightly, doubling up the left hook well and going to both body and head.
He has been working on body punching after witnessing Ricky Hatton close up, and it appeared to be paying dividends as he did what he pleased.
But gritty Guebbas, who had never been stopped and was carrying a six-pound weight advantage, was always there and refused to yield.
And as the rounds went by Mitchell – whose low hands left him open to the occasional left or right – stood in front of him more.
When Mitchell moved he could pepper the Frenchman with single long leads and rely on his reflexes to move him away from danger.
Inside Guebbas had more success, but for most of the time Mitchell boxed in a measured style, perhaps feeling more relaxed away from his expectant supporters.
Mitchell now moves to 10-0, with eight wins inside the distance, and came in at the super-featherweight limit.

Has their ever been a more clear cut case of fighter turning pro far to early as Kevin Mitchell? His skills and body has clearly not developed, he having to learn in the pro's what should have been done as an amatuer, after 10 pro fights he can barely do 6 rounds. He's gonna have a ridiculus record of 30-0 before he's ready to make any kind of step up.
Do you know anything about this guys amateur record? without the shwboating he ain,t been doing a bad job for his age. He does whats asked of him. Some people JUST AIN,T HAPPY UNLESS THERE BITCHIN' Give the boy a chance. He turned pro at 18 and didn't have to wait all that long until the Olympics, pretty stupid if you ask me. I don't give a fornicate what his amatuer record was, his skill has clearly not developed and its gonna be a long time before he's able to step it up. I don't think ive even seen him throw a jab yet, all he's done is just wade in and throw bombs against the lowest level of opposition ive ever seen. Then bang his chest afterwards like he's just won the world title. He's a hype job, the biggest fraud ive ever seen.

Fighting for his country would have done him a world of good i know that but its horses for courses, there is a world of difference between the amateurs and pro's. To a youngster more suited to the pro game Greece probably seemed a lifetime away, so with pound notes and promises being offered from every quarter the lad made his choice. Lets face it the amateur game in this country is.....Lets not beat about the bush here!!....SHIT!!! Anyone who climbs through the ropes and gives there best like these guys do day in and day out deserve to be looked after a damn sight better than they do....... What say you?
