Darren Barker v Andrew Facey for the British title
According to this week's Boxing News this fight will be for the vacant British title after the Macklin decision to go for the EBU and will possibly happen on the undercard of Froch v Dirrell on 17 October. Providing Macklin and Barker both win, it would set up a massive domestic scrap next year.

That would be huge for Barker if he ended up with the European title.
I do feel he can beat Macklin and Facey, however who is the European middleweight champ? Is he gonna be too much for Macklin?
Re: Darren Barker v Andrew Facey for the British title
Facey is always a tricky customer, but Barker's stand-up boxing skills will expose all his mistakes. Facey will do very well to last past 7/8 rounds.
Re: Darren Barker v Andrew Facey for the British title
Should be a fairly routine nights work for Barker.
Facey has mixed with decent company, but I think he is below Barkers level.

Asikainen is a full blown beckham-sized celeb in Finland.
He's a very decent fighter. I'll get some fights up soon.
Re: Darren Barker v Andrew Facey for the British title
Unbeaten Barnet boy Darren Barker could take on Sheffield bogeyman Andrew Facey for the vacant British middleweight title in The Fall. Barker already holds the Commonwealth middleweight title so will go in as favourite (if it happens), particularly as Facey was outscored in a stab at the Commonwealth light-middlewight title (by Bradley Pryce). It would be unwise to rule out Facey’s chances, however. Fighting Andrew is somewhat akin to fighting a giraffe on amphetamines (joke). Middleweight might suit him.
Facey was beating Pryce in Newport (where Pryce was born) but went in with a lack of ‘rounds’ (he is widely avoided) and inevitably slowed down the stretch. Since then, he’s held Manchester’s Thomas McDonagh to a 10-round draw at the City of Manchester Stadium and went 11 rounds with the hot Jamie Moore for the British light-middleweight title before he was halted. Facey had dropped Moore in a previous crack way back in 2003 (before having his teeth spilled). His long, accurate shots are capable of hurting – and extending - his opponents.
Barker also looks like a quality operator, a man with a nice range of shots, up and down, everything off the jab, a good chin. In fact, he looks a real ‘comer’ at 20-0 (13), three impressive defences of his Commonwealth belt behind him already. Moreover, at 27 Barker is a whopping 10 years younger than his rival – and much busier, given that inactivity has come back to haunt Facey again this year. Facey only has one four-rounder to show for his efforts in 2009 to date, which will undoubtedly affect his late-round exertions.
“Dazzling” Darren must be the late-round tip.

Re: Darren Barker v Andrew Facey for the British title
Barker's not being pushed on how I'd hoped he would. Yes, he's fighting for the title, and he will have both Commonwealth and British titles if he wins, but he's lacking any names on his record. Sharp and Crampton weren't that good. McDermott and Bendall are English-level quality, with McKay probably a level behind that. For me, he needs a very good win against a very good name. Facey isn't the man to do that. Granted, I haven't seen too much of him, but isn't he a light middleweight in his more bigger fights? I say get McEwan and Roach over here, or send Barker there, and let him do a job on the easy to hit Scot.

Wasn't there a Middleweight that wanted the fight?
What about Elcock or Eastman?

Re: Darren Barker v Andrew Facey for the British title
No one looks good against Facey. Only Jamie Moore looked half decent agaionst him, and even that was complicated. He's looked as good as anyone against him. Barker will have more problems and he's a big middle
Re: Darren Barker v Andrew Facey for the British title
I like Facey and he is a good guy out of the ring it would seem.
Although he does seem to 'click' that he's losing then fall apart at times.
That said, he's better than some of the more favoured names doing the rounds.

Re: Darren Barker v Andrew Facey for the British title
To be fair, if Macklin wins the European belt theres no way that he will come back to fight Barker. I think its likely that Macklin will give up the belt pretty quickly having managed to get a (premature) world title shot.scrap iron wrote:According to this week's Boxing News this fight will be for the vacant British title after the Macklin decision to go for the EBU and will possibly happen on the undercard of Froch v Dirrell on 17 October. Re: Darren Barker v Andrew Facey for the British title
Actually I think this is a strange choice of opponent by the Barker camp.
Obviously there's the connection with the Ingles through John.
Andrew has always caused opposition fighters problems.
Loved his win against Eastman in Nottingham some years ago now.
What I'm saying is that if Barker does the business then who's going to be excited, because it's expected ?
The other side of the coin is that Andrew is dangerous.
Don't rule out a shock somewhere during the fight.
Weight has never been an issue for Andrew - he's plied his trade right up to SM.

Re: Darren Barker v Andrew Facey for the British title
Is this fight still on?
Re: Darren Barker v Andrew Facey for the British title
Would have liked yo see him in with a higher calibre of opposition by now to be honest. After fighting Howard Clarke on his debut it seemed the talented Barker would be move pretty sharpish. Of course the unforeseen layoff cannot be helped but talk of Kasim Ouma, Matthew Macklin and Kofi Jantuah has been replaced by a stop gap job with Andrew Facey, so it's a little disappointing.
