Hatton gets Oliveira

Post by don't call it a comeback »

Hatton fights Ray Oliveira in December in London. Just been announced.

After three good fights in a row a few years ago with Omar Weis, Vince Phillips and Ben Tackie, Oliveira has done nothing impressive over the last couple of years.

Another 'keeping busy' fight for Hatton with only one outcome but there should be plenty of action while it lasts.

Oliveria is 36 years old....

Maybe it's a clver plan by Team Hatton, by the time he does get to fight Tszyu, the Russian will be 43 and Ricky will be used to beating up middle-aged men!

Two years ago it would have been a good fight for Hatton. Hatton should prove what we've known for three years - he can beat up on guys ranked 10 to 30 at his weight. Will this be Ricky's last fight for Warren if the big one doesn't come early in 2005?

Doubt it. You cannot blame allegedly for all of this. Hatton has to prove he has the ambition, it's not like Warren's been holding a gun to his head.

Are you sure it's not Rubén Olivares? He's a blown-up bantamweight, who's held various, legitimate World title belts. What's more, he was only born in the late 1940's so should still be close enough to his prime to guarantee a romper-stomper of a night out down in London  .

all i can say is that it most certainly could have been worse.

Not exactly a great match but it's probably better than being fed another Pedersen/Vilches opponent :TU:

Still the outcome is so obvious.. Hatton can't lose

Oliveira is a welterweight - has been for some time. He'll be dead at the weight.

I don't think this is to bad a match, you weren't going to get a top class fighter for this match, as Hatton just needs to mark time.

Oliveria comes with a bit of desire still, has never been one to just turn up for a payday. He throws a tremendous amout of punches, and has excellent stamina. Is past his best days now, but will give it a go when he comes here.

This is one time I guess we can let this go.

We know Hatton is on his way to a real world title shot and to take any risks at this point would not make sense.

Still im guessing this is to be part of the UK undercard to Williams - Klitschko so all in all it will add to what should be a good nights boxing.

Have to disagree. As Bennie's already pointed out, he's been campaigning at welter so will be dead at light-welter, meaning many of his 'strengths', such as his work-rate, will probably not be in evidence. Can't see where his desire will come from either...

Yep, hasn't fought at light welter for coming on for 4 years. Hardly good at his advanced age.

Easy for Hatton to blame Warren and pass the buck, but it's him who has to force the issue, allegedly is his promoter, his obligation is to fulfill the terms of their contract and provide him the fights he wants.

If Hatton doesn't press for them, there's no reason why Warren would want to force him is there?

Deja vu? Everytime a Hatton opponent is announced first theirs critisism, then everyone accepts it and says "aw well, next times the big one" but it never happens. Everyone here knows the immense difficultys that they are going to have getting Mitchell or especially Tszyu to fight Ricky and their is a far greater chance of the fight not happening that it actually happening. Its just gonna be the same old story when the next fight falls through because of according to FW "unreasonable demands".

Are we really to believe that a guy with the amount of money that he genarates and with Europes so called biggest promoter cannot get a top 10 opponent after 37 fights and about 10 previous full houses behind him for his man to fight? In the meantime Oktay Urkal has fought for the world title on 3 occasions against the top men of the division and his promoter managed to get his man home advantage twice. Their was just 3000 at the Urkal/Harris fight and it was the same last time. Why doesn't someone just have the balls in an interview to put these points to Frank and Ricky in an interview? It is after all the truth. What does it say about Franks skills as a promoter compared to the competition. Brodies fought for the real world title 3 times and all at home.

I don't think it's anything to do with allegedly, I think it's the fact that Hatton wants to be paid bloody well even if it's for a chance at a genuine title, I think he isn't prepared to take the short end under any circumstances. That's my personal view. He sees himself as the draw and wants to be paid accordingly. The more Hatton wants, the less is on offer for his opponent.

That simply won't work with Tszyu, who isn't going to be interested in coming to Ricky's back yard for peanuts, and will almost certainly insist Hatton travels.

However, as Tszyu is near the end of the line, Hatton knows that some time in the not so distance future the title will become vacant, and he's going to be right in line. Bearing in mind that the IBF will want a champ who is a draw, and it makes sense that Ricky will end up getting a crack at the vacant title soon.

That's presuming Tszyu wins, which is no certainty.

Some good points the probelm as I see it is they want home advantage for
the world title fight after Hattons last fight Warren went on about the great advantages of fighting at home with the crowds atmosphere etc. True enough but if a fighter is really hungary for a world title he really should be able to fight anywhere and be prepared to fight anywhere to get that belt. Cant't see Gatti, Cotto or Tsyzu doing so maybe Mitchell will he has fought in this country before and seemed willing to fight Hatton. Team Hatton seems to want all the advantages of a champion as a challenger.

Can't see the point in this one other than to mark time and to allow Hatton to buy his nearest and dearest better presents for Christmas.

Everytime Hatton fights both he and Warren promise it will be the big one next time out - how long will the Manchester faithful full for that line?

Thing is with these mark time fights - Hatton could slip up in one of them if he's under motivated. Really annoys me when we hear Witter is not acceptable and then someone who is far less suitable is brought in.

Sad thing is, this time next year we'll probably still be having exactly the same discussions regarding Hatton & Calzaghe.

its a,mrking time fight for crying out loud, thats allowed isnt it if he is realistic about challeniging one of the big boys early next spring then he isnt goinna thrwo it away with a dangerous match up at this late stage, id rather watch this than witter fight his next opponent.

undoiubtedly it has been said that Hatton is protected etc etc, but I do belive he will have a defining fight next year he has to, so i dont blame him for not taking on a world top five in the fight before, be realistic.

The thing is though how many mark time fights can he have? Could argue that all of his contests in 2004 have been mark time fights.
