Acelino frietas investigated for murder

"Former champion Acelino Freitas is being investigated for his alleged role in a murder that took place in Northern Brazil. Newspaper Gazeta Esportiva, citing police sources, said Freitas' name was linked, during an investigation, to last Wednesday's murder of Moses Pinheiro and the attempted murder of his friend, Jonatas Almeida.

Almeida, who has a criminal record, had dated Freitas' 17-year-old niece. It is alleged by Almeida that Freitas confronted him on the day of incident at his home while looking for his neice and threatened Almeida. On the same day, a group of men grabbed Esportiva and Almeida from their homes. Esportiva was killed, while Almeida was able to escape.

Freitas admits that he visited Almeida on the day of indicent and spoke to him. He denies that any threats were made made and said the conversation was simply "like a father trying to protect his family".

"He is trying drag my name through the dirt. I have never been a dirty person. I am a peaceful person," said Freitas."
