No way can Ray make 140. He struggles to make 147, and he's said that while he wants to fight Vivian Harris again (Ray beat him once already) he couldn't do it at 140 because he can't make the weight. *IF* this fight happens, it's pointless. Ray would be so drained from making 140 he wouldn't put up much of a fight. He's looking for a payday, and this might be his best shot at one, but to make 140 by Dec. 11 will take all the fight out of him.

undoiubtedly it has been said that Hatton is protected etc etc, but I do belive he will have a defining fight next year he has to, so i dont blame him for not taking on a world top five in the fight before, be realistic.
About his last 4 fights have supposed to have been warm up fights for the big boys but it never happens. Surely you don't believe that Kostya Tszyu is going to spend months in training for a fight with Ricky Hatton at 35 years of age? Fact remains 37 fights and not one single top 10 opponent, all this in whats supposed to be the most talent laiden division in boxing. Rickys a fraud and will be exposed as soon as he finds someone who hits him back, Harris would have but that fights not going to happen now.

But is he? Us fans have been hearing this mantra for about three years now, I'm a Hatton fan and think he is class, but how many 'marking time' fights does this guy need?

Marking time for what? The inevitable 'failed negotiations' when Kostya Tszyu refuses to fight in Manchester for the short end of the purse and instead takes a much more lucrative offer to fight Gatti or Mayweather in the States?

Leaving Hatton to fight Weis, Urkal or someone instead while Frankie gives it "The top fighters are all dodging Ricky again" in the post-fight interview?

I warm more and more to the notion that Hatton is a busted flush in the light-welter cauldron, not because of his lack of skill, but because of the extremely poor way he's been brought along. Also, he looked fat as fornicate on Sky News.

How many more times does Hatton want to prove he is a pussy to the boxing fans?

tsyzu WONT fight Hatton. I just want to make that clear as day. Hatton had the chance to fight Mitchell already and pussied out. The Pussyman is just a coward, plain and simple. This will go down a treat with the America fans.

So that's Mitchell and Zoo out of the equation. he's going nowhere near Cotto or Witter. Scratch Mayweather off the list along with Gatti. Who's he gonna fight next? Why exactly CAN'T he fight Witter? Because Hatton is a COWARD.

Whilst Oliveria isn't in the top ten with so many champions most of the fighters ranked above Hatton unavailable I see this as a good match as a mark time fight - alot better than I expected.

Struggling to think of fighters who are better than Oliveria without prior engagements, Lovemore N'dou, Demarcus Corley, Junior Witter and thats about all. I still see them as future defences if Hatton is successful in a big title fight.

I am happy, infact nearly thrilled with this match up. As preperation for the Tszyu vs Mitchell winner it is ideal.

Unless the fight is over the 140 limit, it's not going to work out well for Hatton. If Hatton can't get a 36 year old weight-drained Oliveira out of there before 12, he'll simply look bad.

Also, not long ago Oliveira was scheduled to fight Saul Duran at 140. Ray came in at to the weigh-in at 146 and refused to even try to lose anymore weight. He was also over against Weiss, and one of his last few fights was over 150.

BOYCOTT!
This is the big one...Ricky's 15 defence of his coveted Warren's Boxing Union title .

This fight has only been made to confirm Williams Klitschko as a £15 PPV. Looks like we are gonna get a couple of rounds of Ricky and few rounds of Vitali pounding on Danny, before Danny nudges him over for the win!

Hatton Vs Witter...now thats a PPV 8)

A guy on another forum I read says he seen Olivera and he's totally shot. Thats at welter, what the hell is a weight drained Olivera going to be like? In fact from what im reading he might not even get close to the 140 limit. This fight is beyond a joke, this is a 150% job never mind a 100% certainty that Ricky will win. Absolutely everything is against Olivera. If their are any Hatton fans left on this board then I ask you why are you still a fan if you are a boxing fan, this man is a total fraud. He talks big on tv claiming that he wants the big boys and trys to sound like he's talking from the heart but it just doesn't cut it no more. He should be totally dropped from the rankings. Hatton is a laughing stock in the US, go round different forums and you will see this, he's Joe Mesi times 10. Shit, thats an insult Mesi fought some decent guys. Cotto is humiliating Ricky with his progress. Hatton should NEVER be mentioned in the same sentence as any of the top guys. He's an embarressment to British boxing.

There is no way that Hatton can avoid the winner of Tszyu Vs Mitchell, Ricky is number one contender and Mitchell and Tszyu are signed to Showtime who have showed quite a few Hatton fights.

If Ricky's next fight (after Olivera) is not for the IBF, I've gotta agree with everything you've said. 8)

Why couldn't he or wouldn't he? He withdrew as the mandatory for Vivian Harris' title. What makes you certain he wouldn't avoid Mitchell or Tsyzu? Didn't he have the opportunity already to fight Mitchell but he wouldn't?

I find it hard to believe that Tszyu will be interested, why does he need Hatton when he has so many other fights to make if he beats Mitchell? Everyone will be looking to get a fight with him, especially if he looks a bit shaky, which he might well. Gatti would chew his fornicating arm off to get a shot at Tszyu.

This is clearly a marking time fight in preperation for the....next marking time fight. I have asked before but i will ask again seen as know one is sure....is Hatton's contract with Warren up in December or not?

It's almost as if Ricky Hatton = Joe Calzaghe = Johnny Nelson = Scott Harrison. Many of them will defend their belts against lower-tier guys until retirement constantly claiming people avoid them or failing to make significant fights.

It's sad, because when this happened before, guys like Richard Williams, Steve Roberts, etc. had world rankings and rather than step up the calibre of opposition, they simply stayed with these lower-tier opponents until they eventually got knocked off by one of them.

For all the negative talk that sometimes appears about Hamed, at least he stepped up to the plate against Barrera even if he was beaten soundly.

I've noticed Showtime has essentially stopped televising boxing from England. Whereas in the past we saw the fights of Harrison, Calzaghe, and Hatton, they're never televised over here anymore. Most of the SHOBOX bouts now feature American-based boxers almost entirely. My guess is they felt no need to hype up guys like Jennings, McDonagh or Foster Jr. because even if they succeed at the British level, they'll wind up like Hatton, Calzaghe, etc.

wow, this fight ranks right up there with Hatton/Vilches & Hatton/Pederson.
Ricky, like his Sky viewers, must be getting bored to death by now.

Guys guys open your eyes to the bigger picture here. Yes hatton has wasted 2004 there is no debate there, I totally agree its been farcicial BUT his last fight against stewart drew a half full arena, you think that SN and FW are blind to this. They havemoived the show to London and why is that do you think?
The public voted with their feet and they now know they have to up the ante, I DO believe a big fight will happen for hatton early next year in which case it would be pretty stupid to put him in with a top ten opponent at this juncture, thats my point.

half full? really?

as for olivera, well having this IBF no 1 spot is the perfect excuse to allow ricky to fight this guy. Ofcourse Mitchell or Tsyzu wont fight Hatton. Tyszu if he wins, has only got a few fights left he must surely want big ones, Gatti followed by Spinks and end his career on high. Finishing your career by beating Ricky Hatton is hardly a fairy tale ending.

Mitchell is probably going to move up if he wins, but if he does stay around at light welter, again, Gatti is the one every one will want, a name and a belt. Plus no need to have to come to Manchester.

Ricky? Well, vacant title fight at best.

2005 is definitely going to be his year. As was 2003 and 2004.

yip 8000 i believe, think capacity is near 18.

I do agree that I cant see Kostya wanting to fight Hatton, mitchell I think is a possibility. If not he is well placed if they do vacate and move up = big fight for decent belt NO?

Be interesting to see whats said if this does happen.

Vacant title fight is what I think is the plan. Tszyu will either get beat, or will have one or two before moving up and retiring.

Mitchell is probably finding it hard to make light welter too these days, and there's probably not that many fights left in the tank for him.

Hatton meanwhile can keep ticking over until those guys are gone and fight for a vacant title.

Yeah but I'm sure SN realised the real reason for the low turn out was down to it being a Friday night.

Almost guaranteed Ricky's Man City fans wil turn out in force for another Saturday knock over job - I mean they have no real idea if the guy he's facing is any good do they? ( Until they see him, that is )

Yeah, but what are the chances of a saturday fight now though? As all the TV money is only available for Friday's, a return to a saturday date doesn't look all that likely.

This is clearly a 'nothing' fight but at least he's staying busy. Given Hatton's propensity to blow up, it makes sense to keep him honest in the build-up to an IBF match. Pre-Christmas Hatton could have made Santa CLaus look like JCC jnr.

IF this leads on to an IBF match next, all good with me. If not, I'll be sorelylet down
