Off Topic: R.I.P. John Peel

Sorry to do an off topic thread but along with Boxing my other great passion in life is music. One of the influences in my ever expanding record collection was Radio One DJ John Peel who has just passed away.

Thanks for the music John and rest in peace.

Hope your having a beer now with Johhny Cash at the big bar in the sky.

Dear me, that is a shock.

RIP certainly. He'd probably forgotten more about music this week than most of the garbage Radio 1 presenters will ever know.

Thats a real shame he was a great braodcaster.

I used to like it when he would play a record and say: "I don't know what speed this is intended to be played at, but this is the one I like best".

Yep, a great loss. Probably was the last DJ whose passion was music as opposed to presenting/comedy.

A real shocker to take in, no previous publicised health problems looked fit and sprightly and was a young man.

Irreplaceable, really. The stuff about him listening to everything that was sent to him is true, I know people who got their stuff played. RIP, legend in the field of independent music.

His radio show was one that I would flick onto if I was driving home late at night and while I wasn't a big fan of the music he'd play, he just had one of those voices and way about him that made you listen.

One of radio's finest voices who you'd expect to be around forever.

Great shame he's passed while he was still loving life and what he did, but he seemed to be one of those people who had found their true vocation and revelled in every minute of it. Shame it ended early.

From the reaction in the office, what I've heard and read, he's touched a lot of people's lives in little and big ways. Condolences to his family.

Ditto 5 nights a week from 10.00 to midnight, unless a band was playing at Dunstable or Hemel Hemsptead.

Great era and a great character to present it - He had a marvelous sense of humour and delivery.

I far preferred the Peel's of this world who were passionate about their music to the breed of zany DJ's who were passionate about themselves and played a few records in between,
