Mayweather points/late stoppage

Marquez is more talented than any fighter Mayweather has fought, but he's old. Everyone is forgetting that.

On Sunday we'll all be saying "it was inevitable really"

i know this is a Big fight but i wouldnt be surprised if its close call or Marquez looks the busier fighter that Floyd gets it from the judges , so as to set up a huge fight with Pacquio ( providing he wins of course )

Cast back to Delahoya vs Sturm ( with hopkins waiting in the wings )

maybe im just not giving the Judges the benifit of the doubt

Mayweather Points for me though

My heart sayd Marquez, but my head says Mayweather.

Marquez has never been stopped but has campaigned at a MUCH lower weight class for years. He is tough as nails though and looks up for this one big time.

Floyd has not been in action for close to 24 months and that will take it`s toll. Marquez looked good against Diaz in the last fight.

A fully fired up Floyd should win this, the question is wether he will look for a stoppage or be happy to box out a points victory.

I am thinking along these lines too. I think Mayweather picked Marquez to make a statement. And all being well (presuming he picks up where he left off)I think he can get JMM out of there before the 5th.

What are the odds on Marquez by early KO (before 6)

Can't check due to proxy rubbish.

Unfortunately Marquez has taken a lot of hard punches in his recent fights, so I worry. :(

Mayweather by stoppage at 1:12 in the eleventh round, with Berinstein throwing in the towel. Couldn't be arsed re-typing what I wrote in the current scene:
Exactly and if you look at his more recent fights he's been a lot more aggressive. But at the same time, he's been getting hit a lot more too. I think Marquez is going to take a lot of shots of Saturday and Mayweather will bust him up and take him out around the tenth round. Marquez is one of my favourite fighters but the size difference, his age and the fact that he'll be forced to take chances leads to me the conclusion that he'll get stopped for the first time in his career. Its a shame he never got the third match with Pacman.....and don't think he'll ever get it - but the annoying thing is I believe he deserved both decisions.

Mayweather late stoppage or points. Marquez just ain't going to be big enough. Mayweather also won't get hit a great deal - I think it could be quite dull, but also think Marquez might get nailed, because he fights quite aggressively these days.

He had an absolute war with Diaz before turning up the heat and smashing him up - he's just not very elusive any more, and he's going to be hit by a far bigger man this time around.

Marquez has balls and a tonne of heart, but I just think he's going to find it almost impossible to get to Mayweather, and he will get hit hard when he tries.

Mayweather on points. He's to big and I don't think JMM will be able to land enough punches, because he'd rather have someone coming at him. Mayweather is also very good at picking opponants he's knows he can beat. I'd love to see Marquez win though. He's a brilliant fighter who I love watching. He's moving up to far in weight though.

I'll take Mayweather on points but there is a small chance of a late stoppage. Can't see Mayweather getting involved early at all but if he gets 8 or 9 rounds of one way traffic he might push on at the end.

Me too, I'd love it if Marquez kicked floyd's butt, Marquez really hasn't gotten the praise (or the results) he should have done. Aside from the blip against Chris John - for me he's definitely deserved to be regarded one of the very top fighters in the world.

He should have two victories over Pacman by now, and yet Manny is the man regarded as the top dog in lieu of Mayweather's return.

I really do hope Marquez beats Mayweather, gets his rematch with Pacman, and then gets the deserved win over his nemesis.

Would you sooner see Marquez Pac 3 or Mayweather Pac ?

This is all presuming Pac beats Cotto.

I think Cotto will be able to withstand Pacman's assaults, and when he hits him in return, Manny's going to be hurting bad. If Cotto works the body over, it could actually be over quite quickly.

Cotto won't be able to withstand Pacmans assault imo. it will take its toll. Cotto will be too slow of foot to get to Pacman without getting leathered first.

Dooley, you old dark horse.

What's the reasoning?
Everything has to come to an end and Mayweather's unbeaten run will do. I think he may start sluggishly, come on in the mid-rounds and then fade as Marquez's battle stamina kicks in. Floyd has had a long run and these things always come to a shuddering halt, unless you are Joe Calzaghe. Floyd's break must be a factor no matter how fit he keeps himself, if he is doing it for the money and fame then he may be found wanting when it becomes clear that Marquez is doing it for the glory.

I think Marquez can work the body, avoid some of Floyd's biggest shots and land with relative regularity on Floyd. As they say in Mexico, "Deese Marquez, he is mucho underrared."

Floyd smashing him to bits is the most likely scenario but I just feel that Floyd is destined to lose this one.
I hope you are right - but I fear it's wishful thinking.

You reveal more of yourself with every post: fluent Spanish, too, I see!

I can understand your reasoning. However, I'm not sure that Marquez is the man to do the job. He had trouble with the size and aggression of Diaz for the first 5 rounds, and was hammered for the first 3, and while Floyd will not whale into him like that, his speed, combined with his size and punch power, will cause problems. Of course, Marquez will be the fastest opponent he's faced since Judah, and probably the smartest ever, so Floyd may take time to adjust himself, but this conveniently forgets that Marquez may be fast, but Mayweather is faster. I think in the early rounds, Mayweather's speed and size will be enough to keep Marquez off balance and rack up some rounds.

I think as the fight goes on, Marquez will make his usual cerebral adjustments, and will take some rounds, but whereas he would have been able to capitalize on them at 135, and dominate from them at 130, here Floyd's size will prevent him turning the fight around, and the Pretty Boy's own ring smarts and defence will mean he can readjust himself.

I also think that the layoff will ahve done him good, actually. It'll have freshened him physically. Floyd has always been one of the fittest fighters in boxing, which people forget (if anyone would benefit from the return of 15 round fights, it would be him), so I don't think the layoff will effect him negatively in the fitness sense -- especially when we think of it in relative terms and consider that his opponent will be carrying basically a stone more than normal. In terms of sharpness and seeing the angles and catching the openings, I don't think that it'll have effected him too much. Good sparring should see off most of the rust, and I think his body, his physical state, will have benefited from a couple of years to rest and heal properly. Certainly, the footage from 24/7 makes him look even sharper and faster on the pads, if that's possible.

God, I hope I'm wrong, but I can see Floyd winning by 8 rounds to 4 or even by a late stoppage.

Marquez is one of my favourite fighters, but Floyd wouldn't have picked him unless he'd been 100% certain of the W, and I fear he's been set up for a beatdown, tempted into the trap because of the allure of money and potentially forcing Pacquaio into a rematch.
