Daws ready to gain revenge over Morrison
Lenny Daws believes he will become a two time British Light Welterweight Champion on Friday night when he meets old foe Barry Morrison for the vacant title.
Motherwell man Morrison ended Daws first reign as a Lonsdale belt holder when he beat him on a split decision in 2007 but the Morden man is confident of getting revenge at London’s York Hall on Friday.
“I always wanted a rematch with Morrison and now I’ve got the opportunity,” said Daws. “I thought I nicked it by a couple of rounds last time but I can set the record straight now. Last time I started too slowly and I know I can’t afford to make the same mistake this time, I need to get to work from early on and leave no doubts in the judge’s minds.”
Daws is unbeaten in six since his defeat to Morrison and last time out he captured the English Light Welterweight title with a points win over Peter McDonagh however he has always had one eye on a rematch with Morrison.
“It’s been 2 and a half years since I lost my belt and it’s been a difficult time. When you lose that belt it’s like losing a part of you so it’s great that I’ve a chance to get it back now. I always wanted the rematch with Morrison and to have the Lonsdale belt on the line is a real bonus.
“I know him inside out obviously from our first fight and from watching him over the years. I know his strengths and weaknesses, he’s going to be very strong and it’s a huge opportunity for both of us but I know what I need to do to win so it’s up to me to put that game plan in to action.

Good of this one to crop up when everyone's talking about controversial decisions! Remember Dave Parris' wacky 117-112 to Daws? Jeezo!
Morrison seems to have lost that hunger that used to see him through. Can see Daws taking this one.

Lenny struggled with Morrison's Strength last time out, but has come through some reasonable ten rounders since. Morrison found his level soon after.
Daws on points.

Re: Daws ready to gain revenge over Morrison
Morrison has taking this on on short notice so I don't see him been in tip top condition, I remember Daws having Morrison in all sorts of trouble just after the half way point in their first fight so I'm not ruling out Daws winning this via stoppage and Skybet are offering an amazing 15/2 for it, I had to have a cheeky tenner on it.
Re: Daws ready to gain revenge over Morrison
Yup, Morrison built up an early lead before Daws came on strong in the second half before Morrison again steadied the ship if memory serves. Looked a real chance he was going to get the stoppage at one stage to.
15/2 is crazy odds.

Daws but not early doors.
Re: Daws ready to gain revenge over Morrison
Any result yet? Decided not to place a wager on this fight but still an interesting one. Thanks
Re: Daws ready to gain revenge over Morrison
Yeah, if anyone could do a result or round by round, that would be good. Thanks!

Daws wins via 10 KO
Re: Daws ready to gain revenge over Morrison
Daws stops Morrison in 10. Odd one, the cynics might say that Morrison didn't seem that inclined to get that deep in the trenches to try and retain his title
Re: Daws ready to gain revenge over Morrison
Daws won by stoppage in the 10th
Re: Daws ready to gain revenge over Morrison
I had Daws up 87-84 before he stopped Morrison. Morrison was gased from around the middle of the 7th and spat out his gumshield a few times to get his breath. Didn't make any effort to beat the count in the 10th. Daws deserved his win over the course of the fight.
Re: Daws ready to gain revenge over Morrison
A bit of a poor match up, really. Since his win over Daws, Morrison has lost twice fighting for the British title- his only wins (3 of them) have come against lower rung journeymen.
So what entitles him to a title shot?

Taking the fight on short notice as he was already in training to fight on the night & having a cracking match with Daws the first time they met might have a tiny bit to do with it.whicker wrote:A bit of a poor match up, really.
