On point 2. Vivian Harris wanted the fight to go to purse bids, he thought Ricky wanted the title shot bad enough (as anyone with ambition would) and would let it go to purse bids. Ricky pulled out and Harris was left no where. This is from Rickys own mouth. He said that he wasn't willing to take the usual challengers cut. This sounds like someone who's only interested in money 1st and formost and fornicate the titles (and the fans who want the big fights). Ricky is not a poor man and has been getting paid very good money for a long time with his big gates, yet for just the one time in his career, for what was a possibly a defining fight he wasn't willing to take a pay cut for just the one time. What does that say about him. Its says he's Calzaghe the 2nd only far far worse. Still no top ten opponent after 37 fights. What a joke.Chris the fighter wrote:As a fellow boxer then you would acknowledge that no one is a coward
who steps into a ring your been a bit hard on Hatton maybe your Junior Witter!! OK your probably not but think what your type whats happened to Hatton this year is not his fault.
1. Pinto pulling out not his fault
2. Harris pricing himself out maybe more down to Warren not been able to
pay him no US tv.
3. Mitchell well it was only for the interim title so I can sort of understand him not taking that fight in a way.
4. The Stewart fight well it was the IBF who mandated this for a shot at their title not Hattons fault blame them for not him not fighting a top 10 fighter.
Hatton needs to draw inspiration from some of the past legends of the sport.
Lets look at Apollo Creed for example. Apollo was a great champion and fighter, when Rocky Balboa planted that seed of doubt in the fans minds that Apollo wasn't as good as everyone thought, Apollo demanded a rematch and made sure it happened even though he won the first fight just so he could prove he was the best. Now he did lose that fight but Apollo Creed is still remembered today for his heart and pride along with the likes of Ali. I wonder what would have happened had Apollo and Ali squared up in their primes, I'm not so sure who would of won that one.
Hatton could learn a lot from the great Apollo Creed. Shame he got killed by Ivan Drago.

Non-fighters can criticise fighters - there is such a thing as free speech even for nutters such as yourself. But if you claim to be a fighter and then slag off another boxer for not fighting the world's best when you yourself are nowhere near that level - that exposes you to the charge of hypocrisy.
Let me know when your next bout is and I'll turn up and give you my view on whether you or your opponent are any good. Like we both agree, non-fighters can criticise fighters so I'm sure you'll take it in good part.
However, to call a fighter like Ricky Hatton a coward, as you did, is ridiculous.
To say as you did that "the whole of the US thinks Hatton is a coward" is ridiculous.
I have some positive and some negative feelings about where Ricky Hatton is as a boxer right now and many of these contrasting views have been expressed by others in this thread. Good posters most of them.
You are just motivated by some personal hatred of Hatton and this is leading you to talk nonsense in an inarticulate and ineffective way.

A big payday, will tempt him I'm sure. There is not that much to be gained from Tszyu fighting Mitchell who he has beaten before (yes he has a belt, but Tsyuz has had them all anyway....)steve689 wrote: What can Tszyu gain by fighting Hatton? Nothing that's what.

We can agree to disagree.
But don't be surprised when Hatton cowardly faces another bum after his next fight while he calls out the best. He's waiting for the winner of Tszyu -Mitchell, next it will be Tszyu - Gatti, then Tszyu Cotto, then Cotto - mayweather, Then Harris Mitchell. And so on. Good luck.

why is it ok then for almost everyone on this thread to IMPLY that hatton is a coward, and the ones who actually say it are shot down?
It seems to me that hatton does not want to fight the best, otherwise he would have ditched warren like he said he would. This implies that hatton isn't interested in fighting the best= Hatton is afraid/wary of the best= Hatton is being cowardly. The general feeling is that hatton, as a well recognised, bright prospect in britain and the wider world of boxing, should not be afraid of fighting the best.
I guess people are calling him cowardly in the context of boxing and what the top fighters achieve. That doesn't mean they don't appreciate how tough it is to box and train for boxing, or that they don't respect them. just that in the sense of ducking certain challenges, together with the fact that he has the ability to be competitive with the top challengers, he could be perceived as being cowardly.
for example, say i was a very good amateur boxer who always made sure I fought and beat up guys with losing records with little damage to myself in these fights. An opportunity for some local title or whatever arises, but i don't take it and resume beating up on guys who can't fight back. Am I being cowardly? You decide.

I think a lot of people think Hatton is being overcautious, or applying too many conditions or not fighting his promoter hard enough to get the "big one".
I think less people have called him, implicity or explicitly a coward. Simply because cowardice means to show physical or mental fear. Being cautious, wary, conservative - thats not what cowardice means.
Hatton doesnt fight guys who "can't fight back" - he fights world ranked fighters - just not the very best level and not for a real title.
I think it was mainly down to Harris (and Steward) that he didnt fight Hatton. Either way I dont think either Hatton or Harris is a coward. To define someone a coward, and not to be branded one yourself, you should be prepared to walk up to their face and say it to them. Who here, of the people who call Hatton a coward, has a plan to do that?

Hatton has showed everyone "physical and mental fear" on a lot of occasions.I have a feeling this will be a long post because I'm kind of bored so I guess this is a warning...
1.Hatton has showed everyone "physical and mental fear" by refusing to fight Junior Witter.
Mr. Witter has called your boy out on sky so many times. In fact, I remember him embarrassing Hatton, "I'm going to knock you out". Meanwhile Hatton has refused to fight Witter. He's had MANY chances. Witter would take the fight for 150,000... peanuts. Hatton had it in his "contract" to fight Witter in the summer of 2002 (or was it 2003?) yet it didn't happen. Witter has called hatton a "coward" for not fighting him. Junior Witter has been calling Ricky Hatton out for 4 years. Hatton has faced Stephen Smith, Aldo Rios, Carlos Wilfredo Vilches, Dennis Holbaek Pederson etc instead of the ready willing and able Witter. Why didn't he fight Witter instead of these fights? Witter has always been there. What happened to the "contract" that Hatton said he signed that stipulated that Witter was to fight Hatton? Was there such a contract?
2. Hatton has showed everyone "physical and mental fear" by refusing to fight top fighter who have called him out.
Zab Judah and Floyd Mayweather have both said they would fight Hatton IN MANCHESTER. hatton has not replied to either request. Judah subsequently moved up to welterweight. Hatton had a real chance to fight Sharmba Mitchell 2 or 3 fights ago. (I forget). Gary Shaw called Warren out on Sky and said Hatton needs to step up. Hatton proceded to fight Carlos Wilfredo Vilches instead. It strikes me as odd that hatton seems to run from every top fighter who challenges him, yet he is not at fault?
3. Hatton has showed me "physical and mental fear" by becoming the first fighter in history to pull out from a mandatory position and refuse to fight "vicious" Vivian Harris.
If Hatton really wanted to fight for a title, like he says he does, why didnt he fight Vivian Harris in the US? Hatton is a millionaire after his recent "fights" and would not suffer by taking 25% of the purse on purse bids. He could have FORCED THE FIGHT. Hamed went to the US to fight the best. Benn fought in the US. Why doesn't Hatton fight in the US? He keeps saying he wants to, but talk is cheap. I'll tell you why he refused to fight Harris. because Harris has the best right hand at 140 (better than Tszyu). and Richard is a sucker for right hands. Don't tell me Harris was afraid. he fought a harder fight IMO in Germany and KO'd Urkal... a man rated above Hatton by most. Hatton COULD have fought for a world title (His "dream"), yet he bottled out of the fight in a disgusting act of cowardice.
Hatton holds the WBU belt. Why? Everybody knows this belt is nothing more than a piece of crap which enabled Hatton to pick and choose easy fodder that he could beat. The Manchester football fans who go to Hattons fights are duped into believing he is a genuine World Champ. If Hatton really wanted to get to the top, he would ditch the meaningless belt and fight for a REAL one.
Hatton was WBO #1 for a LONG time. Why didn't he fight Demarcus Corley? Corley said he wanted the fight. Junior Witter asked Hatton this very question on Sky. Hatton didn't answer it directly.
Hatton is 37-0 and still a "prospect". What a joke.
So don't accuse me of allowing personal hatred cloud my judgement. I call it as I see it and Hatton has shown "physical and mental" fear on a number of occasions. he has indeed been cowardly, as most boxing fans in the US would agree. Perhaps you are allowing your personal relationship with Mr. hatton to cloud your judgement. And I would have no problems telling Hatton he has acted cowardly. You talk like he is superman.

may i add, that Hatton is on record as saying he turned down the biggest payday of his career to fight Mayweather(when Mayweatehr was looking for a opponent for his 140 debut).
Why? Because he knew Mayweather would box him silly. Rickys reason for not taking the fight? He wants to wait to when they both have titles and it can be a superfight. Yeah Ricky, really, Im sure you weren't shitting your pants.
I shouldn't mention Ricky and Mayweather in the same sentence, thats disrespecting one of the best boxers on the planet.
As for witter, well hes got it right. How many times has ricky been a mandatory and not fought the champion? Well, I think hes been the mandatory in every oganisation, except the WBC(I think they screwed him for Branco).
Witter has the style and desire to cause Ricky all sorts of problems, and Ricky knows it. And dont give me the line about showtime not wanting the fight. They didnt show his last one, and anyways Witter is miles above pederson, vilches and stewart.
As as side note, read the transcript of the showtime presser(on boxingtalk.net) interesting to see that Tsyzu is semi interested in a Hatton fight. Even with his inactivity and his age, I would still love him to shut Hatton up.
Hatton a coward? Nope, not in my eyes. But I hate this nice guy image, hes a greedy little bastard who talks the big one but looks like a fool.
fornicate ME....The last time i read this much shit i`d accidently dropped my copy of Boxing Monthly in the crapper..It fucks me off how because Hatton hasnt fought an elite fighter it`s immedietly Hattons camp`s...fault...despite what people may tell you on this website and many others...no-one really knows what happens when Warren and co go to the negotiating table.....As for the mandatory arguement...thats bullshit..mandatories mean nothing, as proven by the examples to numerous to mention.
Hatton v Mayweather...Hattons best ever bit of business avoiding this guy...the slickest boxer since SweetPea..no doubt.
"Hatton the coward"...How can you call someone who stands 6 inches in front of you without too much thought of defence a coward..inexplicable in my eyes...pure tosserie.

Agree with the Hatton comment - as if he is a coward! Organising fights is not up to him, although he can (and has) put pressure on..bigynzing wrote:fornicate ME....The last time i read this much shit i`d accidently dropped my copy of Boxing Monthly in the crapper..It fucks me off how because Hatton hasnt fought an elite fighter it`s immedietly Hattons camp`s...fault...despite what people may tell you on this website and many others...no-one really knows what happens when Warren and co go to the negotiating table.....As for the mandatory arguement...thats bullshit..mandatories mean nothing, as proven by the examples to numerous to mention.
As to MAyweather - I disagree with this being an easy fight for Mayweather. Mayweather is a lightweight bulking up and Hatton walks in the ring as a light middleweight.
He also has the intense high pressure, high workrate style that would trouble mayweather coupled with his strength. I think this is a 50/50 fight.... I in fact lean towards Hatton.
well, that tells me all i need to know. If avoiding a man who is legitimately one of the best of his generation, is "Hattons best bit of business", then we cant take him seriously when he says he wants to prove hes the best in the world.bigynzing wrote:

.
And if the ocean were to freeze over and they fought, Mayweather would box circles around Hatton. He's a great pressure fighter when hes not getting hit. Who's the faster puncher Hattons faced? Oh yeah, thats right, Justin Rowsell.

With all due respect, Mayweather would play with Hatton.E wrote:Agree with the Hatton comment - as if he is a coward! Not that it will prove anything but...don't call it a comeback wrote:Lirva - I have two questions for you:
1. do you think Hatton will ever earn a proper world title - i include wbo?
2. do you think Witter will?
simple yes or no will do.
1. I don't think Hatton will ever fight for a world title unless it's a vacant belt and he fights an overmatched foe but if he ever does get a testicle transplant and fights for real, he'll be too far gone to win.
2. I doubt Witter will get the chance but if he does I can see him beating a top dog. It's clear hes better than Hatton. If he had the chances Hatton had, he'd definately not have run scared like Hatton.
