Well Harrison - chi isnt happening

Post by REAL_DEAL »

Chi-Harrison unification unlikely!
Kusung Lee of Poongsan Promotions of Korea has definitively denied that WBC featherweight champ Injin Chi would fight WBO ruler Scott Harrison in a unification bout, as stated by Harrison himself in a press conference prior to his defense against Samuel Kebede this coming Friday. Chi will make his second defense in Korea most probably on December 18, and if successful, the Korean champ will be obliged to make a mandatory defense against the winner of WBC #1 ranked Rocky Juareza and #2 Humberto Soto in his next defense, as decided in the WBC Convention in Thailand this month. The promoter Lee said that nothing involving a Chi-Harrison match-up was done and Chi would never go and fight Harrison in Great Britain. Chi's priorities are his December defense in his native country and then the mandatory defense against the WBC official challenger.

Harrison eyes unification bout!
By Craig Watt
WBO Featherweight champion Scott Harrison (22-2-1) makes the third defense of his title against unbeaten Ethiopian Samuel Kebede (24-0) at the Braehead Arena in Glasgow on Friday night. The 27-year-old is in his second reign as champion after a revenge win over Mexican veteran Manuel Medina in November 2003 regained the WBO version of the title. The prize for Harrison if he defeats the unbeaten 30 year old Kebede in a unification match-up with WBC champion Injin Chi. Sports Network have quoted this week that the Chi match-up is "80% done" and it would be a mouthwatering clash in the 126 pound division. Harrison however stated yesterday at the final press conference, " I am not looking beyond Kebede-this is an unbeaten fighter and the future is not relevent in my mind at the moment. After defeating Kebede I will look at the prospect of fighting WBC Champion Injin Chi but not before I have posted a win." The challenger is a relatively unknown quantity for Harrison after completing most of his fights in Africa and Europe but his unbeaten record certainly commands respect from the Scottish champion.

what happened there then :-?

I guess Chi is slightly dubious about coming back to England, after he got robbed in the first Brodie fight.

come on people we all know that harrison will never fight guys like chi, barrera
or marquez pacquiao, cos warren will not put up the big money for these guys
to fight harrison,so all harrison's fans are going to be watching him
fight bums for the next 3 or 4 years.

I think Harriosn would like the fight's, but I think the bigger issue is whether his promotion and management team can get him them those fights.

They can get them - they just wont want them.

Made me laugh yesterday when I read Chi had spoken to Harrison and

said he would take the fight if his terms were met....NO SHIT!

If I could sing I could have been a singer.

Great expression!

I found it rather unlikely that this fight would happen, given SN have not made a big fight in living memory...

I doubt Warren had much to do with the Tyson fight. I reckon it was more a case of Danny being the right man, with the right record, in the right place, at the right time.

The cynic in me would go so far as to suggest that Warren saw the opportunity of a fat pay-day for himself and his fighter (who was going nowhere fast), and jumped at the chance. It was a no lose situation, which made perfect sense from a business point of view. Now he, and his man, have a chance for another fat pay-day in another no lose situation.

whatever still the fight happened it was a big fight with Sports network fighter thats the facts so what about the Klitchko fight then - no one thought that would be made realistically did they? But it was, Ive stated this before Im no FW flunkey but I do think you should give credit where its due. And in this case its due we dont deal in reasons we deal in the facts. I dont give monkees how danny got there and what the intentions were just oin the fact that we could have a British World Heavyweight champ and you say SN cant get the big fights? This is the THE Biggest belt in Boxing.

utter tosh in this instance. be fair.

I think that the reasoning is the most important thing here. As i said it's a no lose situation for both Warren and Danny. That's why the fight has been made. Unfortunately that seems to be the only time when a SN fighter gets a big name. That's what's infuriating. The fact that it can be done, and it has been done, but still Warren's big names are fighting at a much lower level than they belong. I doubt that if Danny had been built up the way that other fighters have, and he was as massive a source of income, he'd be contesting this belt. I never said anything about Warren getting the big fights, my opinion is he'll only get them when it suits.

As you say the facts stand alone. Danny is a SN fighter, and he's involved in a fight for the biggest title there is in this sport. That should go some distance to appease those that say Warren hasn't been involved in a genuine world title fight for a number of years. But when he has several other names who are just as capable as Danny is (some even more so), that's where the problems are.

The reall difference in all this is Danny Williams. Danny isn't demanding that Vitali meet his terms....such as

A) Vitali come to fight him in Wembley.
B) Give him the majority of the purse as he is the draw.

If only Hatton and Calzaghe took this attitude, but why should they? They are all earning nice regular money defending their titles at home on their own terms. Why rock the boat.

Calzaghe and Hatton WILL take big fights, but only for big money on terms that suit them.

Danny has no such luxury, he realises it's now or never. Even after having beaten Tyson, if he sits around on his arse demanding he call the shots, in a year's time he would be forgotten about.

Danny is a realist, his career was going nowhere before the Tyson fight, fighting the likes of N'Clueless, he knows that if he beats Vitali he will earn a small fortune before he retires. Possible rematch with Tyson for the belts, which by then could again be a big fight.

Well done to allegedly for making the fight with Vitali, but I suspect that Danny has made his life easy for him, in a way that his two biggest fighters Calzaghe and Hatton haven't.

Precisely. It is not really a fight Warren went out and actively made, I bet he was approached by the TYson camp...and Williams did get paid terribly.

He was, they were looking for a replacement for Kevin McBride, who wanted too much money. Danny was willing to take the fight for less. Smart move on Danny's part.

usual SN crap; a fight is 80% done or 99% done and everything's in place but the signature, then when sombody mentions this to the other fighter he doesn't know what they're talking about. The way they use the media to dupe fans is pathetic. In a couple of months they're going to claim Chi backed down at the last minute and is ducking Harrison.

I had a right good laugh reading BBC text last night with a quote from Frank Maloney saying something along the lines of " I get much more pleasure from guiding Scott Harrison than I did Lennox Lewis because Scott is doing it the hard way" HARD WAY :o :o :o :D :D :D

Someone's pulling our plonkers.

I honestly believe that Scott Harrison is willing to test himself against any Featherweight in the world. But whether he will be given the chance is as always up for debate.

So that was Scott Harrison doing it the "hard way" against the woeful Kebede! Frank Maloney should hang his head in utter shame. The shame is, he hasn't got any shame or he would have just held his hands up and admitted Harrison-Kebede was a total farce.

Don't blame Kebede. He came to win, but has no business being in the ring with anything close to world class. Adam Smith needs a slap in the face for his vulgar insinuation that Samuel came for the money alone.

Two punches to the back of the head didn't help Kebede's lost casue either.

Indeed, he should have just put his hands up and admitted it was a poor match.
