Eubank v Benn I - Contract signing...

Post by Matchfixer »

I've just seen this for the first time on youtube and found it hilarious! Eubank sure had pure charisma outside the ring as well. Love the accent, the posturing and the analysis. Did anyone else enjoy this (scroll forward a few minutes to the interview) ?

And does anything else compare these days ?

nothing compares in this day and age...although with the correct pushing and the appropriate tv guidance.....hatton v witter on terrestrial tv could have generated a huge non boxing fan audience, black v white, red rose v white rose, stylist v body slugger. alas... this did not happen.

as for the video, eubank is/was awesome. look at the video again, watch eubank fiddling with his tie etc and worrying about his attire as hearn is speaking.

Just to stress here I was talking purely about the interview. It's pure theatre.

Yes exactly, that's the sort of thing I'm talking about. So hilarious to watch. Nobody quite like that around now that I can think of.

It's weird - I got butterflies watching that again after all these years! I could sense the real tension there. I don't believe that was staged at all - Benn really didn't like Eubank one bit, and Chris got under Nigel's skin in a way we seldom see these days. And what a great fight they put on in the end!

great footage, thanks for the reminder.

I still remember how excited I was by this fight as a 13 year old watching it live with the whole family. Wow. Reminds me why I love the sport so much.

I couldn't help but think of The Elephant Man when i saw Chris in his that style of suit.

Like Mr Merrick, Eubank had a big right hand too.

the interview with Eubank where he says he can do everything nd challenges every1 (not in the studio) on thatc lip is from I.T.V coverage of the Errol Christie/James Cook fight , Eubank fought on undercard nd after his fight inthe ring said "My trainer says when you get them on the hook, take them out.. THIS is a brutal business.. Its entertainment forthe spectators, but not to Pugilists like myself !" , he was 22 yr old barely had any fights barely anyone knew him he knew he was going to the top..

Eubank was calling Benn and Watson out back then even, direct. Especially Benn.

There was one at Wembley with a young Eubank that also had Jim McDonnell, Michael Watson and Duke McKenzie (on the card).
