Joe Calzaghe was 100% Confident Enzo would beat Haye

Post by FLINT ISLAND »

Take a look at this video on the night of the Battle Of Britain

Calzaghe Ringside waiting for the main event - very confident about his man claiming the WBC / WBA World Crusierweight Titles.

I didnt see this video at the time - but lucky I didnt - cos if I had access to a online gambling site I would have stuck a siginifactn amount of money - whatever I could afford - on Enzo winning the fight.

I picked Enzo to win anyway - but there was always that doubt that Haye might be a class above just based on the way he blew away Bonin up at Heavyweight and then going to France and dismantling Jean Marc Mormeck

But this video would have made me more confident Enzo was up to the same level as Haye

Calzaghe states that training had gone really excellent for Enzo and things seemed good up until this point - which is contray to what Maccarenelli claimed after the fight - that something had gone wrong with his preparation during the week of the fight - the mistake that he has never revealed.

It all started coming apart during the ring walk though...............

Makes me think though - pherhaps if Enzo had not lost it mentally - it really could have been a much more interesting fight

I always try not to buy into what the fighters, trainers etc say in the run up to a fight, it is hard not to let it affect your judgement though, when a people in the know are supremely confident in their man.

Maccarinelli would of struggled to beat Haye with a baseball bat that night. Or any other night. Look how their respective careers have progressed since.

The only "mistake" Enzo ever made was getting into the ring with Haye in the first place.

Stop stalking Enzo or maybe you are Enzo.

I dont care that Haye whooped Enzo -

Enzo probaly deserved the wasting he got - because he was mouthing off - but up until that point he had a easy road to the titles -

Haye proved the real champ

Enzo proved the paper champ

As for people saying - why all this shit about Enzo - I'm a huge boxing fan - and Maccarenelli happens to be a local fighter - Swanseas first ever World Champion.

So of course I have a interest in local fighters - but I talk about lots of other boxing topics too.

I never said I was even a fan of Maccarrinelli - just that he was a local fighter - and too see a local fighter in such a big fight against Haye is a rare thing.

The last big fight from a local figher was when Colin Jones fought Don Curry for the WBA / IBF World Welterweight titles back in 1985.

Colin trained for the fight at the boxing shed behind my back garden. :box: :TU:

I know what your saying pal.

Biased opinon will always be the case when talking about their own fighter.

But it can sway your opinon when you see how confident a respected World Champion fighter like Joe Calzaghe is - who knows what it takes to be successful.

All I can say from this video- is that they convinced themselves he could beat Haye - then had a painful reality check.

Back on the day in ESB I did a

Enzo V Ali
Enzo V Mike Tyson
Enzo V Lennox Lewis
Enzo V Frank Bruno
Enzo V Evander Holyfield

And who punched the hardest of all time - Enzo or Ernie Shavers or George Foreman or Mike Tyson or Ron Lyle
(remeber they done a scientific test that proved Enzo punched as hard as a train doing 30MPH)

But I was just trolling then - winding people up on ESB - that was ages ago - and it was just a bit of fun at the time

Flint, can you let us all know what your feelings were, on the run up to that fateful night? And the tragic aftermath and how you dealt with your emotions?
Also, how would you see a rematch panning out, if they both boiled down to say, bantamweight?

Do you think Enzo got it wrong tactically Flint? And where does he go from here?

Also, honestly, how many times have you pulled your pud while thinking of Enzo in shorts in say the last 5 years?

Haye takes that fight - any time

Haye was and is the superior fighter

He is more naturally talented

He punches harder

Is a class above in more aspects of his fight game

And was the NO 1 Unfied Champion in his division for albeit a short period of time

Enzo was a British / Euro - fringe World Contender - overrated into the lofty postion of one of the top crusierweights through the allegedly / Sports Network Hype machine

Haye a serious banger will always find Enzos chin and take him out
