PBF vs Willaims

Not for 1 minute do i think this will ever be made. Williams couldn't make welter again and Floyd wouldn't risk giving away such huge physical advantages but if somehow it ever did could Williams be his bogeyman?
Every fighter has one. Calzaghe was terrific but wanted no part of Robin Reid again (himself not a great fighter) as he got out of the that one by the skin of his nose and Hopkins made him look pretty bad though that's what Bernard does.
Of course Roy hung around too long just like Chavez and everyone else meets their match eventually whether it be down to age, shape , motivation etc.
I think PBF might be different. The only 2 question marks are ODLH fight (close though I thought he won it myself) and the first Castillo fight (where I thought the Mexican was robbed blind though in fairness to Floyd he dominated him in the rematch.)
JMM was far too small, 36, coming up 2 weights and looked really thick around the waist. IMHO he just shouldn't have been in there considering the disadvantages against a natural master like Floyd. Pac Man, Cotto and Mosley should provide vastly sterner challenges but I still see Floyd slickly outboxing all of them in cautious displays just like he did against Judah.
But Williams........mmmmmm. I guess we'll never know.

I know everyone wants Mayweather-Pacquiao or Mayweather-Cotto, but from a personal point of view, I would really like to see Williams-Mayweather!

I'm not sure what weight this would be at because its clear Paul struggles to make 147lbs & he has not fought there for some time, so maybe he can't even make Welter anymore?

I know there's a big difference between JMM & Paul Williams, but Mayweather put on a clinic against Marquez & that has not happened before!

Williams presents a very much different & tougher challenge to Floyd, but Mayweather's talent, I think, would see him through! People are quick to say Floyd needs to be pressured, but I think if he was pressured, presented with a tougher challenge, then he would perform even better!

You have got to hand to Floyd. He's been out of the ring for nearly two years, yet he could have had us believe he fought last week by the level of his performance on saturday night. The layoff hasn't effected him at all!

There's no doubt he was great but JMM had so much going against him. Age, size, strength etc, etc. No one can tell me that wouldn't have been more competitive down at lightweight.
JMM just looked so small in there and Floyd isn't big. He was particularly carrying a hell of a lot of excess baggage around the waist.
Outside of Oscar Floyd has generally either been of equal size or bigger than opponents. Williams would have so much distance on him. Could be hard to deal with. But Floyd is probably the smartest fighter out there. Probably why he isn't generally that exciting. Anyway it will never happen. I just can't help but wonder if it did.

I think he should stay at Welterweight as there are lots of big fights at that weight with Pacquiao, Cotto, Mosely and Berto if he fights 2 of them then he should move up and maybe fight Williams but if it did happen I see PBF to outpoint him to slick and fast for him

Williams is an excellent fighter. Right now I'm picking him to beat Pavlik, if that fight comes off.

There is one lingering doubt though...

He was fairly comfortably outboxed by Carlos Quintana in their first fight. Yes, I know he knocked him out in the first round of their rematch, but it just leaves me thinking...

How superior to Quintana is PBF in almost every area?

Still think it's a pick em' at 154 though and i'd love to see it.

At light-middle it's Williams all the way for me. If Floyd struggled with Castillo and in parts of the Judah fight, you can be sure Williams' high volume style coupled with his natural size and reach advantages will give him fits.
I don't see Williams landing that many clean shots due to Floyd's superlative defence, but his output will keep Floyd defensively minded while Williams puts rounds in the bag... and unlike Leonard against Hearns, there's no way in a million years that Floyd forces a stoppage as his 'get-out-of-jail' card.

Its an intriguing fight, and before last weekend I might have agreed. I just think Mayweather's defensive ways will put Williams off his game. It gets frustrating hitting thin air, the reason why I gave Marquez half a chance was his speed, stamina and punch output - the guy throws punches in bunches, which was the platform for DLH's success (behind a lovely jab). For me, the only fighter who came close to beating a FIT Mayweather was DLH. I thought Marquez would adopt a similar style, and I am sure he would have - if he wouldn't have got so frustrated missing. Missing punches is tiring, demolrising and frustrating. DLH blew the fight on some cards cause in the end he just got pissed of with missing and got ragged, fatigued and frustrated.

I wouldn't be confident with that pic and its a fight I would love to see. I would love to see Pacquiao vs Mayweather. I think Mayweather trounces Cotto.

Quintana may not have been as skilled or as fast, but he was bigger, taller and stronger than Floyd. Also, Williams may have been a little drained at welter. Williams will beat Floyd at light middleweight because of his huge reach, height and punch output. I am fairly certain that Floyd's rolling the shoulder defence won't be nearly as effective against punches coming from above and all sorts of awkward angles. You saw Floyd's huge reach advantage over Marquez and how much difference that can make. The difference in reach between Floyd and Williams will be double that. That reach, the 6'1" height, the huge punch output and the southpaw stance would cause all the problems in the world.

Seriously. Fair enough Stu. Your more than entitled to your opinion but having watched that bout on youtube I can't believe that
you thought Mayweather wasn't that troubled by Castillo. I thought the Mexican was robbed blind. Mayweather himself looked shell shocked after it and I remember the HBO team were all stunned by the decision. Don't invest much in his opinion but Lederman had it JLC by 5 rounds if memory served. Mayweather just spent the whole fight on the ropes fending off blows. He took more shots in that fight than he has ever shipped in the rest of his career put together. I've always felt people write it off because of what happened in the rematch. But for me the only thing which stops Floyd from having an 'L' on his record was piss poor judging!
