Mayweather v Cotto

Post by Roars Like Me »

It may have been mentioned so apologies if it has.

It seems that Cotto is being overlooked and that PBF v Pacman will be the fight.
If Cotto wins in style against Pacman, are we to assume that Floyd will fight Cotto or will he look for a fight elsewhere? (noticeably not Mosley too it woud seem)

Mayweather is very calculated, so I think he'll be looking at how well Cotto copes with Pacquiao's speed. If he batters Pacquiao, I think it becomes a harder fight to make, because I have no faith in Mayweather's desire to make very tough fights. He's here to pay off the taxman and put some more change in the bank, nothing more.

I dont see Cotto beating Pacquiao but if he did and in style then I think Mayweather would fight Mosely then if he wins that then I think he'd fight Cotto. I think Mosely would be the bigger fight than Cotto but there are lots of good fights out there for Mayweather and Cotto win or lose

Cotto WILL beat Pacqauio and will do it in style, that I have no doubt. I'm will to put money on it with another respected boxrec member....anyone?

Better still, why not go down the bookies & have a bet on Cotto? I also think Cotto will beat Pacquiao, but it appears you are a lot more confident than I am, at this stage!

I think Cotto is being sold short in this one. People are clearly underestimating him as a fighter! You can throw Pacquiao's wins over De La Hoya & Hatton out of the window because Cotto is an entirely different proposition altogether!

Cotto will be well up for this one i'm sure.

As a fan i hope he wins...

...but i've wrote off Pacman's chances too many times to write him off again !

Come on boxrec £100 says Cotto wins this, it must be someone who has history on the site.

Cotto is a brilliant boxer. He should take out Pacman in the first half of the fight. His body shots will cripple him.

He is the only one I can see giving Mayweather any real trouble at welterweight.

He can tough it out as well as we saw against Clottey. Clottey is no easy fight and I thought Cotto coped well with that cut. The only blot is the Margarito fight and we don`t know what was in the gloves that night.

Styles make fights and we saw Mosely destroy Margarito, whilst Cotto handled Mosely pretty well.

Whether PBF will take the risk of fighting Cotto is another matter.

I think the thing is that Mayweather has got to the stage where he can hand pick his fights.

I think the only 2 fighters who could possibly beat him on power is Cotto and Mosely and I doubt he will risk his nbeaten record against either of them 2.

If he chooses Pac man he won't lose either way. If he loses the fight no one will really say that he wasn't as great as people thought and if he wins well then he's just beat another great.

On the other hand if Cotto beats pac then he may just fight another boxer who has fought there best fights at lighter than welterweight. If by some miracle Cotto beats Pac and then goes on to fight Mayweather, Cotto could just beat him.

For the record I think Pac man could beat Mayweather, because of the speed, movement and suprising power and age difference. Not to say that Mayweather isn't great or couldn't beat Pac because I think that he's been brilliant for modern boxing just think he's not as risky as he was and fair play really.

People seem to be forgetting (now, but I bet it will be mentioned several times if Pacquiao wins) that Cotto took a mother of beatings against Margarito and looked a weary fighter against Clottey. I think Margarito has taken something out of him.

I think Mayweather hits critically too hard and too accurate (the key) for Cotto. Judah hurt him, Clottey had him on queer street, Margarito KO'd him. I don't think Clottey hits much harder than Mayweather, and certainly not as fast or accurate.

Mosley beat the man who beat the man, yet though - already the knifes are out if Mayweather fights him and not Cotto.

Cotto would be the easiest fight for Mayweather, his footwork is pondorous, his defense is very open and easy to land on and Mayweather has a vast speed advantage. I see it being a wide decision or late stoppage
