Excellent!

Mcdermott on points!

Unless Tysoin pretends to be injured (he might!) and fights in 6 months time then the fight is closer.

Is Terry O'connor the ref?

McD on points also I reckon, here's the press relase

Our Ref: RWS/LC/Cir.01.09.09 Date: 23rd September 2009

PRESS CIRCULAR
(for immediate release)

Referee Terry O’Connor has appeared before the Board to give his explanation as to his decision in awarding the English Heavyweight Championship held on Friday, 11th September 2009 to Tyson Fury.

In everyone’s view the contest was competitive and the outcome controversial.

The Board listened carefully to Mr. O’Connor’s explanation and
(i) in the light of the explanation; and
(ii) his record, ability and experience

the Board has decided to allow him to continue as a Class A Star Referee.

The Board has also decided that because the outcome of the contest was controversial it will order a rematch, purse bids are therefore called in short terms to be submitted to the Board by 12.00.noon, Wednesday, 14th October 2009, the contest to take place by the end of December 2009.

ROBERT W. SMITH
General Secretary

T.O'C to contunie as a Class A Star Referee.

As expected.

Should be an interesting one, the rematch... will Tyson have learnt enough form the first outing? Or will john have learnt more about Tysons style?

i think Tyson will win this time around, it was more the wide margin of the points that got everyone so upset.
The ten rounds last time will have gave Fury so much experience so thats my pick

Good call about the rematch .. sad nothing really done about O`Connor. Surely a drop down in class for 6mths or so would have sent a stronger message.

Lets just hope hennessy doesn`t pull Tyson out .. I`m sure its a real option because is Tyson going to improve that much in 3mths?

I can't see the fight happening, Fury will gladly relinquish this area title so he can step back down a level

i agree that john has lost his best chance and it could be a case of deja vu for him because the first fight with williams was controversial and he struggled a little in the rematch.

tyson will have gained a lot of experience from that fight and he's got some sort of warm up on saturday at the o2 in dublin, anyone know who he's fighting? probably some hungarian or latvian bum.

Glad someone else picked up on this rather than just focusing on the rematch - it's a disgrace that absolutely no action is being taken against him, especially since by ordering a rematch there's an implicit acknowledgement that something went badly wrong.

I think a rematch is fair it was a poor decision but you should'nt change the result as its an opinion but in a rematch see McDermott winning on points by outworking Fury similiar to the 1st fight except the result goes the right way

I'm sure he could somehow justify having Fury as the winner, but I'd like to have heard him explain away his scorecard of 8 rounds to 2. Even Fury himself thought he won it only by 6 rounds to 3, with 1 even!

:o Why Spud? So he can come up with scorecards that Stevie Wonder would be embarrassed to submit?

Did anyone really think the last match would be overturned to a NC or Fury be stripped of the title??
Moreover it was always gonna be less likely that O'Connor would be disciplined

Does anyone think Meaty Mick will risk it?
Or will Fury step aside, leaving McD a gimme for the vacant belt, leaving everyone happy, other than the fans of course! But then we will forget soon enough!

Spud,

I know you've been against the "witch hunt" but checking your previous posts (sorry for being a nosey old so and so) I got the impression that you though a punishment was deserved... just didn't like the tone and protests people were putting up here.

I would have loved to have been a fly on the wall at this meeting. That press release indicates to me that they know it was a WRONG decision.

The reason why I think a punishment was necessary, was because this wasn't the first time O Conner has made mistakes. Everyone can make a mistake, and if this was Terry's first, 2nd or even 3rd mistake you could put it down to human error - but sadly, it aint. If your a manager in an office and the admin staff makes a few errors - then you don't expect the manager to remain patient cause the admin guy is a nice bloke.

I can't remember the last time a British ref/judge got in trouble for being bad, in fairness they are in an ivory tower
