I like McDermott in the re-match however I do think Fury has alot more scope to improve than McDermott.

I seem to recall Fury himself making similarly baseless claims prior to the first fight and yet his punches looked about as powerful as a Robin Reliant for the majority of the fight when it came down to backing that up.
Whatever Fury is, he's not the KO artist that some would tout him to be and while it's plausible that he'll beat McD in a rematch, I think your forecast is way off the mark.

I think the board of control have done what everyone expected and taken the easy way out. They haven't overturned the decision and made it a no contest and they haven't even banned Terry O'Connor. A rematch doesn't get rid of the undeserved loss on McDermott's record and O'Connor get's off scot free.

Fury knocked out McD gumshield twice and had him twice more turn his back and literally RUN to the ropes into the ref's luvving arms to keep from being knocked out. O'conner's not blind like this crowd and gave Fury the lopsided decision. McD was brave in the beginning, but strictly in survival mode by end after a good pulping by Fury.

We shall see about my forecast. I'm predicting another terrible rain of punches on McD who will be tossing his wet towel quite a bit earlier this time around. After this fight Fury desperately needs to vacate the isles for now so as not be sucked into the dreary scene of the British heavy division that Haye avoided like the plague for this exact reason.

You know my view that he won it the first time round, so I am struggling to see it any different for Big Mac this time around - Fury will have the advantages of workrate and will not underestimate his opponent again. I think a wide points win beckons.

Glad someone else picked up on this rather than just focusing on the rematch - it's a disgrace that absolutely no action is being taken against him, especially since by ordering a rematch there's an implicit acknowledgement that something went badly wrong.

Exactly, And i'd like to hear the explanation of those that decided his fate, on how they can justify handing out no punishment after he turned in that 8-2 card. That card cannot in anyway be justified. Its f*cking impossible. That being the clear case he should have been punished. This decision just indicates that at worst corruption runs deep or at best its all an old pals act, and way too cosy for the good of the sport in this country.

Its an "old pals act" in my opinion Lurkyshaka - thats why there will never be an annual monitoring/review.

I put forward a cost effective solution. 3 complaints in a season, 5 overall and those fights will be reviewed INDEPENDENTLY by star referee's from the states. Should the independent ref's uphold the complaint - then severe punishment.

It would keep the refs on the toes and show to promoters/trainers/fighters/fans that something is to be done. Will it ever happen, will it f as likely.

Just compare it to Football and Rugby, the punishment refs get if a major incident/complaint is upheld is a severe punishment. They also get regularly checked/assessed irrespective of how they've performed... and if they fail - they get demoted/suspended.

They should at least have made O'Connors explaination public, in ordering the rematch there's a tacit acknowlegement that something was awry. As for the result, I think we say McDermott at his best last time and I think that Fury showed a lot of room for improvement, and he'll up his game and nick it this time. I'd like to see John win though, that would seem more just.
