If Smith had any respect for himself or for the sport he would step down and admit he can't do the job. We've had to tolerate this clown for too long. The fans should get a say on this, instead of having someone who can't do the job shoved down their throats.

Its not something i really think about in the lead up to a fight

seems to be a lot of fuss kicking about about whos commentaating these days

i can happily watch a fight and not get wound up by commentators

although i do laugh quite a lot with some of Teddy Atlas commentating in Fight night Game on PS3

I voted Ian Darke - just used to him - and think he is better.

But he makes me cringe - with all his cheesy pre scripted - sentences.

Expect commentary that includes............

"Well David Haye really is facing a tall order tonight"

etc
etc

He's a commentator, not the PM.
True

His position as commenter and how it effects our lifes as boxing fans is much more important to us than anything the PM does. :DD

Smith is good as a cover for Darkie but Darke is a better commontator and works better with Jim Watt imo

Could the 6 people who voted for Smith give me one reason why Smith is better than Darke?

My reason is that I can legitimately turn down the sound and listen to the commentary on Five Live.

My reason is that he tries really hard, is passionate about the sport and is a nice guy, he prob has read this thread and is feeling down about it.

Smith's not that bad, but he was absolutely shocking on the PBF - JMM show. As one sided as the fight was, it was not as one sided as Smith made out.

JMM did have some points in the fight where he caught Floyd and never really looked hurt.

One more thing I noticed.

If you ever watch a fight with Darkie commentating, he ALWAYS tells us what the fighters weigh on the night (he musts ask Jim lampley or one of the other HBO commentators). marquez weighed 148 on the night, mayweather refused to be weighed. Smith didn't mention that at all. It is good information to know imo.

Just another one of his shortcomings to add to a very bulky list.

Darke is a very good broadcaster and can set the scene well, but unfortunately he doesn't know how to read a fight once the bell goes. It is also obvious he scripts some of his lines in the hope that they'll be immortalised.

I always remember when he commentated on the Hamed-Robinson fight. When Hamed finished the fight with a fabulous hook, Darke, who probably can't see too well said "that was just a slip" despite the ooohs and ahhs even from those at the back of the arena. To save his blushes, Sky let him redo the last piece of commentary, so in the replays and the tape that went on sale, we hear Darke saying what a magnificent left hook it was

But he's still better than Adam Smith.
