Nonsense. Not one single person at the time that Mayweather faced Hatton felt the Hitman represented a stiffer test for Floyd in the ring than Cotto would provide.

Hatton was more proven than Cotto. How is what I said nonsense. Has Miguel beaten a reigning and defending world champion. Did Hatton have a struggle with Malignaggi. Cotto has at both 140 and 147 looked very beatable - against lesser opponents than Hatton beat.

As James said about Karmazin vs Oscar fight - who cares what peoples opinions are/were. Fact is, Cotto's done less and has been close to defeat against more opponents than Ricky had at the time. I don't think a live and death struggle against Torres, rocky moments against Corley, lack lusture displays against Branco, Abdulaev and Malignaggi compare with Hatton's achievements AND performances at 140. Then even when not weight drained at 147 - he suffered very dodgy moments against Clottey and Judah and got pummelled against Margarito.

There were lots of people who gave Ricky a shout against Mayweather - remember the Sky Experts in Manchester proclaiming how much bigger Ricky was than Floyd at the press conference. Remember the comparisons made with the fighters that gave Floyd a tough fight (Castillo/DLH) - saying Ricky's natural agression could prevail. I remember, lots of people saying if Judah is on his A game, he has the tools to beat Cotto. Bunce says to this day that Hatton in his pomp would break Cotto's heart. You aint a bad fighter if you have dominated a devision for 4 years - not looking close to losing. It would be nice to see Cotto stick 4 years without looking close to losing.

So what is it to be, cause it seems like Floyd cannot win here. Fight guys with the more impressive resume, or fight more feared guys according to "people". Does Klitchsko get more respect for fighting Chagaev or more had the Haye fight not fallen through.

Good call Deserter Looks like I am wasting my time trying to report that a fighter who never beaten a defending world champion, only beaten 1 fighter who was a world champion going into the bout (in his last fight), and had major struggles in his 3 reigns as a champion, has a worst resume than a fighter who has beaten 5 world champions (going into the bout), 2 p4p'ers and was equally, if not more, impressive in wins against common opponents.

Not saying Floyd took on all comers or had a opponent list that equals DLH - but certain fights he NEEDED to have and should never got condemmed - Ricky Hatton is one of those.. my take. Off course if Cotto beats Pacquaio then that changes it alot. But at this moment, Ricky was one fight Floyd needed more than most.

Let's look at those defending champs you love to blow your skirt up with, WBC each and every one of them. Hernandez, Castillo, Gatti, Baldo Sasquatch, and Oscar. Only one at his best near primes was Castillo. Hernandez, Gatti, and Oscar were past prime, but credible wins. Sasquatch was a freak accident of nature the WBC never planned for. Not exactly traditional greatest ever material credentials overall.
