Well, it was very nearly successful. Vlad was lined up and then Setanta went down... er, I mean... he got a terrible, non-specific, unverifiable injury. But for that and we would probably be chewing the fat on a knockout for one man or the other.

But that when this happened he was left with no real back up really exposes how much they were rolling the dice, doesn't it?

I really think that he thought that if he didn't get Vlad in the ring quick that either Vlad or himself would lose, and that would be his best chance for superstardom out of the window. And that was the plan.

Of course, their defence would be that now Haye has a marquee fight against Valuev, a win in which would put him right back in the market for a fight against one of the Klitschkos. However, for Haye, it's an eminently losable fight, and I can't think how he can pick up his career if he does lose.

Certainly it'll be a long way back.[/quote]

Yes, I concur, a loss here would devastate his career prospects. I cannot see Haye wanting to have four or five fights to get back to a title shot.

I've always thought Haye was on the fast track from day one, he wants to get his titles, make his money and then retire, and who can blame him, it's a dangerous sport boxing, and why stay longer than neccessary.

For Klit v Haye they booked a stadium holding 70,000, for this fight the arena only holds 7,500, Haye is not a draw

I know, but it is wrong. Valurv is the champion and years of tradition saw the champ get his name put at the top. Haye had to endure the same thing when he was the champion versus Enzo and I said the same thing then, it is a disgrace. They must think we're a bunch of idiots.
And it's a tradition I would be happy to see maintained, generally speaking. But Sky are trying to sell this to the BRITISH public remember. At the end of the day, it's pretty trivial to quibble over which order the names come.

haye is not THE attraction.it is been sold as a package with the emphasis heavily on the "david and goliath" angle.this would,of course,be impossible without the giant russian.this alone will attract the more casual fans.do you think sky would take a chance on ppv if he was fighting a 6ft2 220lb american?

Yes, they would even then, because HAYE IS THE ATTRACTION, despite your protestations to the contrary.

When I read the title of this thread I knew someone was going to make a joke about Haye having a purse, I just knew it.

The amount Haye will get paid depends largely on the number of UK PPV's this fight does. It is that simple.

Whilst he gets a decentish purse, to bolster it up Hayemaker got the UK TV rights for this fight.

He has sold them to Sky on a revenue split basis.

Sky promote the fight accordingly, pushing Haye as the attraction. And don't be daft posters above, he IS the attraction. If this was Valuev versus another shorter fighter (i.e. playing the David role), it wouldn't do anywhere near the level of PPVs in this country.

FLINT ISLAND wrote:I'm just concerned and curious about Hayes purse for this fight.

Basically - he was getting nothing from the Wlad fight - other than what Setanta were paying him - then they hit problems - and he pulled out with a bad back.

Then he was signing up to fight Vitali - then he backed out of that one - saying he was fighting for peanuts - and he was tied to various options, etc

Just wondering after all the politics problems of Hayes last couple of negatations - whats the deal here with Valuev

Who is paying Haye for this fight - and how much ?

Is there any clauses in the fight - for rematchs - or any other catches - should Haye win ?
Well i was talking about boxing in work the other day and nobody had heard of haye, yes they are not hardcore fans, but everybody knew bruno, benn etc so i can see haye getting a hell of a lot less than a million afterall he messed the Klits around, hasn't fought for a year and brings nothing to the table so to speak, and if he turns this one down then he has hit a deadend as far as titles go so i think he had to take this fight for whatever the purse.

He is the vital part of this package. Ask yourself:

- Would Valuev be PPV IN THIS COUNTRY - if he wasn't fighting Haye
- Could Haye be PPV against other oppo

Just in case you cannot see the wood for the trees, the answers to the above are NO and YES.

Sky are a business, that is why they bill Haye first.
