Audley-Williams 1 WAS close; it was just a dire match so people didn't really consider the round-by-round scoring. Yes, Audley was painfully negative, but Danny was very poor too; spending great swathes of the fight simply trundling after Audley at arm's length. It was over-caution against ineffective aggression, so people naturally side with the one going forwards, but in reality he barely did anything of note before the knockdown. BOTH men were poor and both contributed to a poor spectacle, but because Audley was the "villain", he is the only one who gets criticised for it.
As for the rematch, yes Danny came in at short notice but it's a myth to say he hadn't trained. For a start, he'd dropped a stone and half from his Skelton rematch weight. Sure, he was still overweight, but he didn't lose that much weight by sitting on his sofa. Danny himself said he was already in training for Gammer and had no excuses for the loss. But of course we have to ignore the admissions of the beaten man because that would mean giving Audley a bit of credit, and we wouldn't want to do that, would we?

martin_g91 wrote:Oh my god, let put this in perspective. Audley keeps going on about "I only lost to Danny on a split decision and when I won I battered him". He's been saying "split decision" from the interview on the apron to the sky bit we're talking about now. Audley never threw a shot in the first fight and was on his bike the WHOLE night, and even then was still floored by the only proper shot Danny got through with. There was only one winner. Audley was as supprised as everyone else in the room when they anounced "Split Decision" after the fight. Mark Green was the judge who scored for Audley and with all due respect, Mark Green couldn't score a football match.
In the second fight...Danny didn't train ! There was a whole bit on Sky about it, him in a room on his own hitting a bag in his Arsenal shirt was a serious as it got. Turned up on the night and couldn't give a poop (I might be wrong but I even think he was sat down in his corner for Audleys entrance ? Something like that. Anyway, hardly getting ready for a big fight). Audley done a good job on him but shouldn't get carried away, anyone could have done that to THAT Danny Williams.
Audley COULD win this tournament. But if he does, it just tells us more about the state of the domestic division than it does about him.
Audley may not have thrown much in the first fight but neither did Danny, and saying Audley threw nothing in the fight is the usual exaggeration. I had it to Danny by 2 points so its hardly like Danny gave him a 12 round pummeling.
Then the second fight before the fight Danny was telling everyone he had been training for another fight so saying 'oh sky said it so it must be true' is a bit blinkered. If he had done no training at all then why did he come in 21lbs lighter against Audley than he did in his previous fight with Skelton?

Re: Audley
Forced out of the UK?!!
I dont think anyone could really give two hoots if he was here, there or anywhere! The 'system' has blocked his career? I think Williams, Rogan, Sprott and himself not wanting to fight when he gets in the ring are more reasons for him not making it to world level.
He fought butchers and bouncers on the BEEB and earnt a fortune out of it. Fair play for having a go promoting and managing himself, but it did not work and he is now trying to play the blame game.
He has natural ability, but has got no back bone, has hardly thrown a punch in his last 4 fights and needs to stop shouting his mouth off and deliver. If he gets up to world level, good luch to him, but until then I cant see too many of the higher ranked heavyweights losing any sleep over A(verage)-Force.

Re: Audley
To be honest, when did Danny last really train for a fight?
Yes he's got his weight down on occasions, and looks slim but when did he last have a proper trainer with the whole set-up, proper sparring partners being brought in etc. His corner these days are just a bunch of people no-one in the game has seen before, and it's going to be a while before David Peirera accumulates the kind of experience needed to train the likes of Williams.
Tunde Ajayi is supposed to be looking after Danny these days. Anyone know how he's getting on training Williams?
