Kessler in Notts wednesday
Re: Kessler in Notts wednesday
not good really I really was thinking it could very well be ITV, but at least this Primetime has come to the fore and offering the chance for us to watch it over here.
£12.95/£14.95 isnt bad value considering the two fights are much better than what we would get with Amir Khan.
So to watch these fights it's going to be that amount each time that isnt good considering there are a few rounds to get through.

Sorry about the sketchy info guys. I've had to type it via my phone. I'm sure HS Press and Primetime will clarify everything soon.
Re: Kessler in Notts wednesday
Meaty Mick has stuffed up again, if he can't get the likes of Froch on TV his other fighters have no chance.
Perhaps he could team up with Adam Booth!
It is Froch who will really lose out though as the main money generated for fighters is from TV, so his pay packet will be diminished.
I'm sure Froch will continue to take on the best in the world for chump change, fortunately for Mick he has a fighter who genuinely wants to be great and seems to have little interesr in being paid

Re: Kessler in Notts wednesday
And given the interest in the sport currently in terms of TV involvement, he has done a GOOD job. Look at the problems two experienced promoters have having with TV dates (Warren and Hearn). Sky are limited, cause of a lack of interest and are full up. THey will not do boxing on prime time Saturday.
ITV are out of boxing at the end of 2009.
BBC are not interested
Setanta are dead
ESPN are not interested.
Also, have to give him his dues - he IS delivering the FIGHTS for Froch despite of the lack of TV coverage in the UK. How many years to Warren use that problem when he was incharge of Witter.

Re: Kessler in Notts wednesday
The fight is selling well on all fronts. Some blocks are completely sold out.
Only the inner ringsides at 400 i think are still in numbers. That said, they are true ringside tickets and not like other show's were by you purchase Row A 'ring side seats' and when you get there, in front is a 10-row VIP block !
I was row A or B for Tatevosyan, Dodson, Rybacki Reid, Pascal - and was literally 5ft from ring.
Wheras ive bought other promoter's row A seats and been about 12 rows back behind a load of B-list celebs and sat around 50ft away. Which is a total con in my book.

Taken from the nottingham evening post website .......
CARL Froch's first Super Six fight against Andre Dirrell at the Trent FM Arena will be aired live on the UK's newest pay-per-view channel Primetime, it was announced today.
It will cost £14.95 for almost six hours of boxing and will be the first live event broadcast by the fledgling channel, which is filing the void left by the demise of Setanta.
The fight will also be reported on thisisnottingham.co.uk.
Around 6,000 tickets have already been snapped up for the fight, according to promoter Mick Hennessy, who is confident the show will be a sell-out.
"This is something very, very special," said Hennessy, "it will be a sensational night of boxing.
"Credit to the fighters because, at the end of the day, they will have five tough back-to-back fights."
Froch will climb into the ring against Dirrell at around 2am on Sunday, October 18, so that it can be broadcast live on Showtime in America.
They will also screen Arthur Abrahams v Jermaine Taylor and fights from the Froch-Dirrell undercard.
But Froch is not concerned about going to work so late at night
"I've not done anything different in my preparation," he said. "I'm still going for my early morning run and getting my head bit earlier every night.
"I've got to get my body tuned to American prime time."
WBA champion Mikkel Kessler broke off from training for his fight with Andre Ward to attend today's press conference in the Council Chamber and says he can't wait to fight Froch.
"As a fighter you only take one fight at a time, but when I do fight Carl it will be a massive fight," he said.
"He wasn't a big name when I fought Joe Calzaghe, but he is a big name now and I respect him a lot."

I think a sensible person would suspect that's the excuse, but reject it as nonsense. UFC regularly stacks the single cards from top to bottom, and results show that's the way to go. The market has spoken: people won't pay for one good fight and a shite undercard. They WILL pay for a full night of entertainment.
Shane Mosley vs Fernando Vargas 1 did surprisingly well at the box office, despite a poor undercard - again it was the intrigue factor. Both had impressed in low key fights since bad defeats - so it was the intrigue factor.
best card for a long time happened in april
Edwin Valero v Antonio Pitalua, Vicente Escobedo v Carlos Hernandez, Rolando Reyes v Julio Diaz and Michael Katsidis v Jesus Chavez.
all good quality fights with a bit of intrigue, isn't that supposed to be the norm rather than the exception?

He has only been able to get the fights for Froch because as a champion Froch was willing to go into his opponents back yard for chump change, do you really think Haye and Froch would not be on British TV if they were with FW? FW would get them on the box even if they were fighting tomato cans

anyone who says its not really havent a clue .
everyone in nottingham is buzzing in expectance and im expecting it to be at least as full as the pascal fight .
also i agree with you on the seating too .
i was 3 rows from front with my brother against pascal but this time that area was sold out , considering this was a week after they went on sale so ive had to go slightly further back this time .
regardless , tickets are selling as well as expected . theres certainly no disaster like ant evans has been unfortunately led to believe , ive spoke to just one person whos not going due to the late start , and thats only cos they cant get a babysitter so late otherwise they would also be in attendance.

Re: Kessler in Notts wednesday
I think the price for the fight is good enough, let alone getting extra fights, at least someone's bothered.
If I lived closer to Nottingham or could get there cheap and easy enough I would be going and be spending at least double that for entry and I know I won't get the full effect of the atmosphere but will probably be able to get a better view. So for me I think it's good value and it allows people to if they want to watch the fight they can, which is all good.
On the other hand I do think more boxing should be free to watch like on ITV or BBC but just happy to watch it really.
On a slightly different subject has anyone seen any of Dirrells fights? He looks like he just try's to knock them out then gets tired and he's a bit clumsy. His speed and skill is ok but he's know Taylor and can get hit quite easy. I think Froch will beat him in the 2nd part of the fight.

Am I the only person thinking this fight won't sell much on ppv. If Khan struggles on sky with all there advertsing what chance have this new channel? Surely this is not the best move!

Re: Kessler in Notts wednesday
I don't think it will sell loads but think it will sell enough to make a decent profit because of all the big boxing fans there are who would bw wanting to watch it. I think Khan struggles on Sky box office because I think they put him on Box office too early in his career and many people I know don't quite trust watching a entertaining fight with Khan or think he may get knocked out like with Prescot. This is the first time that Froch has been on Pay per view and this will be his second defence of his world title so I think and maybe others also do think that he deserves to be on Pay per view.leforge wrote:Am I the only person thinking this fight won't sell much on ppv. I don't think its the best move but he didn't really have many options, so not the worse either, far from it.
Re: Kessler in Notts wednesday
They have 3 weeks to sell this fight on a channel no one will know apart from hardcore fans! I would prefered it elsewhere I still buy it though.

ARD the German channel (which luckily I have) is showing the Abraham v Taylor fight for free and also the Valuev v Haye fight for free.
Why do we have to get stiffed for £12.95 for each one. I already pay nearly 50 quid a month for Sky + ESPN and none of them can sort the boxing out without charging us extra every time there is a big fight on.
Pisses me off no end. Sad thing is I will end up paying for the Froch fight anyhow, cos I`m not missing it.
Tempted not to pay for Haye and just watch it on ARD. With the quality of commentating on SKY lately, listening to the Germans might make a nice change, plus they have a tasty bird who presents the boxing (or is that RTL

Re: Kessler in Notts wednesday
Some of you guys really live in a boxing bubble.
Nobody outside of the boxing world knows this fight is happening.
If this does more than 2000 buys I would be surprised. Especially as this is a new channel with no clout.
On the ticket sale front, it would not be the first time a promoter had 'hyped' up the number of sales would it?
If they had 6-7000 on fight night, I think that would be a good attendance.
