Or the American sprinter.
Or the bloke who works with Fibre Optics.

Is that a sign of how desperate we've come for any kind of exciting domestic boxing of late?
Let's be real for a moment - Rhodes/Moore is a just a decent Friday Fight Night main event. Neither have won at anything close to world-class. It's the sort of fight we SHOULD be more accustomed to seeing on a Friday night. It's a great fight for us hardcore, but outside that...
The truth.
Re: Sky re-formatting the presenting
Bring back Paul Dempsey - he is an excellent anchor....and get Buncey on as well to liven the thing up. There are no characters in the Sky studio, we need a bit of irreverence now and again and the odd controversial rant to spark a bit of debate in the studio in between fights.

Yes, I do hope Spud is alright. It's strange that he completely disappeared from this thread after finding out 90% of the replies were telling him his idea was stupid, and after he was asked tro copy us in on Sky's response.

Lets hope the clown is gone for good. Maybe he's trying to set up his own forum for the 50th time. He's banned from every other forum so he'll be back.

There wasn't a problem until you threw a hissy fit non-existent insult.
If you had any sense, you would have tried to modify your point in the face of eminently reasonable criticism. For instance, if you'd have said "well, maybe not a 24/7, but what about something like HBO's Countdown series," I would have said "spot on, that could work, Spud, if good fights that can interest are made regularly."
But you thought it was better to go into a red-faced, foot-stomping tantrum that would have made even Naomi Campbell wince.

Carbo,
I have no problems in stating I am WRONG on many issues and I am one of those who makes a mistake or 2 per day.
Even with that said I did not direct any comments towards you and certainly no personal comments towards you to deserve a direct personal attack - that was your opening post on this particular thread until it was rightly edited.
I am grossly guilty of being passionate about boxing and as some have pointed out in a more insensitive way that has on many occasions clouded my judgement - I stress I have no problems in being told I am wrong - thats what forums are for to discuss the issues in boxing and to express what we feel strongly about.
What has happened on this thread and indeed many others is nothing other than - a number of direct and undeserved personal attacks - if you simply came on here stated your case leaving the personal issues and personal comments to one side I would have had no problems whatsoever on this thread or indeed any other in the future - the problem is Carbo you and others simply cannot do that - you know keep to boxing - for example your post with the bulleted points was indeed quite a good one without the personal digs and sh*t in there.
Finally - I have a right to express my views on boxrec and I have a right to stay here without some cowards behind their computer screens some who I have never met attempting to drive me away - I am here to stay and will stay and will not be bullied into leaving.

Spud, the vast majority of posts were clearly tongue-in-cheek and genuinely funny, rather than being 'personal attacks' of a vindictive nature. Surely you can see that?Spud wrote:Carbo,

Re: Sky re-formatting the presenting
Indeed, the David Payne post that cause all the tears was a compliment. "Jeez Spud, you love boxing more than anyone I know, but it don't half blind you to reality sometimes."So, clearly something to go off the handle about, right?Deserter wrote:Spud, the vast majority of posts were clearly tongue-in-cheek and genuinely funny, rather than being 'personal attacks' of a vindictive nature. You can't put those words in speech marks Carbo. They were yours.
I dont give a fig what Spud does.
If he says sommet stupid I'll challenge it, if he says sommet which makes sense I'll say so.

But that's the point Spud. Nobody can disagree with you in a forceful way without having toys thrown out of a pram in their direction because your conspiratorial eyes have spotted yet another slight.Spud wrote:Carbo,

Because you and David have previous you automatically assumed the worst and took yet another thread -- yet another thread -- off topic and on to an absurd battle of forum personalities. I've just moved past the point when it was enjoyable to watch, been at that stage where it bored me, and have reached the point where it genuinely irritates me. So I thought it was time to weigh in.
Jesus wept. You, David and I are grown men, not hollow-chested, greasy youths whose social life consists of World of Warcraft and the WWE forums. Yet you act as if your ego has been mortally wounded, and your honor disgracefully tarnished, at the slightest whiff of a joke, or any argument against one of your points that you think crosses the most stringent of lines. I mean really, who demands an "unequivocal" apology for something someone said on a forum? If I was really that insulted I'd just p1ss off, feeling very silly that I'd actually been so affected by something a faceless forum poster said.
Grow up, learn to laugh at yourself, and not view every little thing as a personal attack.
RE David's point: I put those words into speech marks because where I, and the rest of the known Galaxy, saw an innocuous quip, Spud saw a grave insult. I wanted to make the point that Spud sees the worst in everything, and there are always other explanations -- another version of the same words that meant something very different.
Whatever, it wasn't worth turning another thread from pub chat about boxing into drama queens on Jerry Springer.
Meantime, on the actual topic, Sky should do something with its presentation for the boxing. I like the idea of Smith presenting. Darke with Watt are by far the best commentary team. It needs some pundits that actually have something interesting to say rather than empty platitudes and banal descriptions. It could do with resurrecting Ringside -- with Bunce, maybe? -- and perhaps doing a Countdown-style show to build up fights if it has the money. I suspect, though, that having been down this road, they've kind of lost faith in boxing's ability to deliver, for whatever reason.
What it needs above all else, though, is a proper plan for British boxing: How will it develop names and personalities into storylines that it can sell to the public like ITV did with Benn-Eubank? How can it develop stars like Rick Hatton and Naseem Hamed? How can it get viewers back consistently? How can it showcase fresh talent? If it doesn't know the answers, or can't be bothered to allocated the resources to come up with a plan, or the resources that the plan requires for action, then it should ask if it just wants to stay in boxing as things stand.

Re: Sky re-formatting the presenting
I actually had a dream about a boxrec reality show the other night.Terry D wrote:I had a text from Sky telling me that 'Spud-Payne: 24/7' is a goer. They follow Spud about for a day, when things get boring they leave personal hand-written attacks on his shaving mirror and film the results.
Dave's segment is slightly more difficult to film. 'Payne' doesn't actually live in 2009, he lives in an idealised, fictional part of Yorkshire circa 1951 and he divides his time between posing for wonderfully photogenic photos with his young family, managing the local football team and looking out for t'lads at the chuffin' factory.
It represented a logistical nightmare, truth be told, so they had to get Michael J. Fox to hop into his car, nip back in time and film the Payne segments. Unfortunately, Mike's 'condition' means that the resulting footage is a cross between Blair Witch and a Paul Greengrass film, you really do feel that you are there with him.
The voice over has been done by Brian Clough (for Payne) and Dick Emery (for Spud). Adam Smith makes the tea, the kitchen is two doors down so he is needed in this role so that the excited roar of, "Ohhhh! Ahhhh! Three sugars for Spud and it looks like a few grains may spill on the side! Amazing! Jim."
For some god knows reason we were joined in the house by Martin McGuinness and Gerry Adams.
