is Danny Williams' title on the line?

Post by medved »

i noticed that in some of the prizefighter promo material it was mentioned that Danny's british title was on the line. is the BBBC sanctioning this or is it just another thing to get the punters through the door and protect his title should he not bother to turn up in the ring again?

thats what i heard, and equally i think it depends on the manner of his defeat, should he KO first 2 opponents then lose in the final on points over 3, then i doubt then can strip him, however, if he gets sparked 30 secs into first bout, then they may have to do it.

Stupid thread. He cannot be stripped, the fight is not over the Championship distance.

The manner of any defeat wouldn't be relevant. It isn't a subjective rule.

As for the promo material, was it not more like: British champion Danny Williams will carry his belt into the ring...?

He is fully entitled to do so, but he isnt defending it.....

The board have said if he loses they can and may strip him of his title. Was in last weeks Boxing News.

The question asked in the thread title has been answered so no need to answer it again.

However i don't see what right the BBBC would have to strip Williams if he loses in prizefighter. I think it'd be grossly unfair really. I can see how it'd damage his position as British champ should he lose, but he'd still be the champ.

World champs have lost in non-title bouts before now, but they still remained the champion.

I think though the board might have threatened to strip Williams should he be beaten on Friday, in reality they wouldn't.

Probably Wazza has something to do with it and as someone above says Sexton vs Rogan could be for it ( there both Wazza Fighters arent they )

if this is the case its a joke,

the board are so inconsistent

Mitchell hasnt defended in 19 months yet hasnt been stripped of his title
and others have after 3 Months

I would like to see the winner fight Williams in a 12 rounder for the title I dont think Williams will be suited to the 3 rounds as he's a slow starter I hope im wrong but I cant see him winning

The BBBoC have been very leanient to Danny in this reign as champion. Whart is it, 2 defences in 3 years? In the space of Gammer and McDermmot 1 - no call for a mandatory... despite losing to non eligable fighters.

Yes but difference was, Skelton got beat by a guy eligible to fight for the British title in a scheduled 12 round contest like a British title fight would have been.

Williams possibly losing in the prizefighter format is very different.

I don't doubt the board would possibly strip Williams though should he lose. They're very inconsistent and seem to alter their stance depending on who they're dealing with, and not necessarily on the situation at hand.

It won't stop us telling Carl Baker he was the Champion - for an hour or so !!
Carl could still make his mark.
He's got Clifton in his corner now, and with Mark W putting him through the mill, who knows ?

Danny is finished! He has no hunger anymore. His best days are behind him. So it wouldnt matter if he had angelo dundee in his corner. He was knocked out by a fridge. Enough said.

The guy gets danny doing the most basic of pad work, and most of the time you just see danny sitting down in semi meditation.

When he goes back to his corner during the fight, the trainer guy just tells him to wake up and he can do better. Surely he should either f and blind him saying what the f** are you doing, beat the hell out of the opponent (psyche him up) or give him advice on what to do (tactics etc).

At least jim mcdonnell had him doing some sort of training, even if it was oxygen tent bs.

Williams once claimed he trained himself for a fight. He won it too. Surely that would be better than pereiras "alwight danny, im ya best mate wake up now"

I've been saying the exact same thing for ages and before Prizefighter I went on the profiles and I saw Pereira's name as Danny's trainer and I thought oh no. Ok last night Danny just couldnt take the punches but Pereira is still a very poor trainer in my opinion.

There is no way Danny should be stripped for a 3 x 3 contest

Infact if they did strip him he'd have a pretty good legal case against them which would scare off the Board from taking any kind of action

Although the best thing for Danny to do is retire now, he's had a good career and has nothing else to prove. I did think Carl Baker should have been Dq'd in the 3rd rd for excessive holding but i'd rather he went out in the 1st rd than to lose to Audley in the Final.

I cannot believe anybody on here thought he could genuinely be stripped, for a 3 round fight.

Says a lot about this forum.

Does a fighter have to make voluntary defences?

If he beats his mandatory challengers then what is the problem?
