HOW MANY FIGHTS CAN YOU NAME.....?

where a fighter was declared the winner by 'knockout'

where the fighter who scored the knock down never went to a neutral corner

AND where the 'referee' never counted over the fighter who was down

AND where the 'referee' stopped the fight on instructions given to him by a non-official sitting at ringside.

and frustrated Mercer for most the night.
Witherspoon vs Mercer was a great toe to toe body busting, jaw cracking
bang fest. It needed atleast another two rounds on it.

I just downloaded a mint full version of Ali vs Cooper(1).

Let's do that first if you have a full copy. (It should be 40 minutes long including the 20 minute break that OJ thinks happened).

Gran and his lap dog BRR had some ridiculous comments on that fight. Perhaps they will join in scoring with us; probably not as gran has already been told what happened by Uncle Bert.

Then straight onto Holmes vs Witherspoon. Great fighters, great fight. Unless you are a limp-cocked, weak-kneed fag who slurps shite (oooooooooooooooooooooooh, nasty!!!) while jizzing over pictures of Buff and Kid Azteca.

I think we discovered via the first Liston Clay fight that the Ali Liston fight mystique is ALL about Liston's lack of belief in himself. Could he have done better? Probably, but he was shell shocked and suffered from that post traumatic stress syndrome thing that's so popular these days. He thought he could "scowl" his way to another victory first time around and coudn't pull it off. And UNLIKE Floyd who gained character from his losses, Liston just "broke and stayed broke" pretty much. At least in the face of Ali.

No matter what skills Liston possessed and they were formidable indeed, he could not summon them in the face of this opponent. granberry for all your self claimed understanding of the physical dynamics of boxing you know nothing about the human psyche and how that often can trump everything else. Not that Liston ever possessed the skills to dominate Ali, he probably did have the skills to beat him or give him a great fight if all things went well, and if his mental state was never an issue.

All the incompetence and drama that played out in that second fight is simply that. It is not credible to attempt to parlay these facts into a "conspiratorial scandal" that folks like granberry like to spin it into. Just a small crowd, big personalities and the "fog of excitement". Sometimes a cigar is just a cigar....and sometimes a fight with unusual aspects is simply a fight with unusual aspects. This was an internal meltdown on Liston's behalf in the face of the voluminously charismatic and effectively talented and skilled Ali.

The "fix" and "conspiracy" were contained within the cerebrum of ONE MAN.....Charles Sonny Liston. Which by definition means that it was NOT truly a conspiracy because that would mean it would have scripted...which it most certainly was not. (Please read up on "chaos". that fight should be the very definition of that word)

On the other hand Paul McCartney was the first Beatle to actually die....now that's a conspiracy with legs. I believe his body will be found in the grassy knoll somewhere in Dallas.
