If you want to throw some fighters from the past in as an aside thats cool

Re: Who is the most universally liked boxer in Australia?
well then i suppose most like danny green
Re: Who is the most universally liked boxer in Australia?
Yeah Danny Green.....but once some people get smart in Australia, they'll launch Katsidis to the casual boxing fan then i think Greeny would have a very big rival.
Re: Who is the most universally liked boxer in Australia?
i prefer a few aussie fighters over green but im sure im in the minority here

How well liked is Darchinyan down there? Is he really polarizing like he is here?
How about Soliman & Bika? They seem like two lunchpail type guys that people would appreciate

Much like Mundine, Darchynian is very 'un Australian' in the way he brags, makes gruesome predictions about upcoming opponents and the way he's generally a loudmouth. It's not the Australian way
Re: Who is the most universally liked boxer in Australia?
katsidis, mundine, darchinyan, dawsonHounddawg wrote:Like who?p4p1 wrote:i prefer a few aussie fighters over green but im sure im in the minority here

Vic is a virtual unknown to the general public here if we're being honest.JAHamilton77 wrote:How well liked is Darchinyan down there? Is he really polarizing like he is here?

Soliman might have a bit of a profile among sport fans and is pretty well liked, Bika would be even more on the fringe..
Danny Green wouls easily be thw best known and liked fighter in the country. EASILY.

#3. Anthony Mundine: I know hes not exactly Australia's frontrunner for prime minister but he's gifted. He was a good league player and is a good boxer. Cocky guys make good boxing fights.
#2. Kalivath Meehan: I like this guy good attributes he's going through a dry patch at the moment but as long as hes trainning hes ok. Nice guy.
#1. Jamie Pittman: Good boxer with a lot of good fights to come I think. Nice guy too heard him being interviewed after an ok performance from his standards. He vowed to not let down his fans and more importantly his country again despite winning.

It wasn't a vote, he was asking who is the most universally recognized/liked fighter.....

Re: Who is the most universally liked boxer in Australia?
I am mainly talking about the boxing public. I am assuming that Australia is alot like USA in the fact that most people (in the general public) couldnt name more than maybe 2-3 current boxers, and even fewer know the significance of the guys they namedMarlin wrote:Vic is a virtual unknown to the general public here if we're being honest.JAHamilton77 wrote:How well liked is Darchinyan down there? In the general public, it would easily be Danny Green.
Amongst the boxing community, most acknowledge that Darchinyan is our P4P #1, and believe that he deserves great public acknowledgment. Most also agree that Katsidis is deserving of a higher profile. As for who is most popular with the boxing community, hard call.

Vic is Armenian. He is not from a culture that encourages false modesty. He says what he believes to be the truth. I have heard him predict he will beat a fighter but I have never heard him run another fighter down.bollox wrote:Much like Mundine, Darchynian is very 'un Australian' in the way he brags, makes gruesome predictions about upcoming opponents and the way he's generally a loudmouth. What the hell is your definition of "polarising"? I thought that was an expression used to refer to politicians like George W Bush. Darchinian is an honest fighter.

Danny Green is a hell of a nice guy.p4p1 wrote:well then i suppose most like danny green
I sparred him a couple times as an amateur, when he was training in Canada back in '99. He split me under the eye! Haha, that's not the nice part though. The next day my little sister came to the gym to see me, and I pointed to Danny and said "that's the guy that did this to me!" Danny says "well, you should have seen the beating he had been giving me at first". Pretty classy, I thought, to make me look good in front of my little sister :)
Re: Who is the most universally liked boxer in Australia?
It's always good to hear of boxers conducting themselves well and showing their human side. Too often they're portrayed as bloodthirsty neanderthals
