Interesting comeback bout for Brodie.

Post by stujones »

Michael Brodie is slated to return in a couple of weeks time vs former British champion Roy Rutherford.

Whilst Michael will be the overwhelming favourite, this fight could be interesting. Roy is no mug and has campaigned at Super Featherweight at times (Michael is still a small featherweight).

With 2 hard fights and a 10 month lay off, I think this really shows the intentions of Brodie. He realises that time is not on his side and to push for the big time he cannot afford to be fighting no Journeyman at this stage.

For Rutherford is offers him a nearly Danny Williams esque chance to become a world contendor (or at least European).

It is always interesting to see how a fighter reacts to a beating like Brodie had against Chi, especially as Brodie has had a long, hard career. It makes it even more interesting because he has a live fighter in the opposite corner.

Nice bout this one, Rutherford isn't the biggest puncher in the world, but is very fit and still ambitious.

I remember calling for Brodie to have this type of fight as his next one after the beating he took from Chi. Rutherford is just the kind of opponent i would have picked for Brodie, capable, but nowhere near world level. I think it'll be a reasonable test, that will show exactly how much is left in Brodie's tank.

This match up does not shock me, Brodie has never really been the type of fighter to pad his record with easy wins. Like others have already said this should show us how much Brodie has left in the tank. If he comes through this impressively maybe he will call out Harrison?
