I left.

Then the site died.

The two events are not necessarily related.

For me it was great - I got to write about boxing and get some stuff on a web site which I never thought I would.

Ian's tips (especially the 'read the edited version and compare it to yours with a highlighter') were a godsend.

I look forward to when the boxrec stuff kicks off

Some exciting times in the North East (at last) for boxing.

Jeffries, Travis and Jon-Lewis Dickinson and Hunter

BOOM!!

My heart, and hats off to Kevin Taylor and Co,

though Kev and I only met a few times, we spoke dozens by email and phone and we share a great passion and great dreams for Britain's great fighters and believe me, they are NOT the usual suspects regugitated over and over again.

BUT you can't always do it alone, not without money or support(!!!) as both Kevin and I sadly and painfully know.

I have 3 more books in mind, 2 great documentaries, Proper Docs like Ken Burns makes, one could easily transfer into an excellent film and another film in Gilroy's story - which is not just a boxing book but written purposefully right from the start as a Human Interest story, full of visual flavour and emotion grabbing story line that ran through his time, people and place.

I have promised Kevin 'if' I get a break or come into some money we will share a dream together! Thanks for the effort Kevin and Co.

Jim Glen.

Agree with all the above and also the highlighter comment, phew glad that wasnt only me :OhYes:

Terry is doing great things now and its great to see how far he's gone. It was a lot of his articles that got me reading the bbn site initially and I still enjoy his work albeit via different outlets (BS and boxingnews). Ian guided me along, not just the writing but some useful info inc the libel side of things which was my biggest area of ignorance :KO: an all round helpful guy and good bloke.

In case its not clear, Ian will be running the new 'news section' for this site and will probably be bringing many of his team with him along with new guys from the forum here. Watch this space :bag:

It was a great site - but I do not like the way the writers were treated - sorry Kevin but you should have been better with them - you and your site got a good name of the back of those writers and the manner in which the site closed down and the subsequent treatment of the writers doesn't really say a lot about you.!!!

They deserved better.

Thanks for the nice comments, chaps.

I completely understand Terry's bitterness. Dozens of lads put thousands of hours in gratis all for the benefit of the site owner...not only that, they then lost the evidence of their hard graft with, I understand, very little by way of apology or explanation.

Terry has gone on to BN and BS a much better and more knowledgeable writer than he was when he arrived at BBN - an internet writing success story - and other lads' writing improved a great deal too.

I have no start date for the new site as yet but I know that the people who actually know what they are doing in programming terms (i.e. not me) are making good progress.

BBN has left a hole in the niche, UK news, reports, etc market and I hope Boxrec News will more than adequately plug that whilst giving lads a chance to attend shows, gain experience and get published.

The loss of hundreds of articles by dozens of writers, who not only were unpaid but who even covered their own travel/accommodation expenses, with just the barest of explanations by Kevin only when forced out of him, and ABSOLUTE ZERO apologies or even the slightest expression of regret = "treated very well"?

Terry D wrote:I feel that a short message along the lines of 'The site will be up again...' or 'You can go F yourself for your work' would be preferable. Some people may think 'A lot of his stuff was crap' but it was my crap, and I'd quite like it back.
Precisely. Kevin claims innocence in the whole thing but is very reticent when it comes to either the future of the site or resurrecting the archive. Furthermore, certain accusations have been made against him and while I have no comment on that, it is odd that he seems not to care about saving his reputation. Even if he couldn't care less about his old writing team (which seems evident), you'd think he might at least care about himself. If I was him, and I was blameless, I would be fighting hard to clear my name, and part of that fight would include apologies and regrets to those who lost their work, attempts to recover it, and to hold accountable whoever is really responsible.

I don't wish to make any accusations of my own - or to repeat those made by others - without proof. I just think Kevin's virtual silence and total lack of sympathy for others is pretty damning.

I think that says it all. I don't know the guy but the impression I'm left with is an incredibly bad one so it clearly is damning.

I have to say I was a bit annoyed when the place shut down, I sent a Tom Doran interview and a full report of a chester show and got naff all back(remembering of course these were 'temporary' difficulties) This wasted my time and made me look a kant. A quick 'the site is knackered Mart, give it someone else' would have helped.

On the flipside I have some great memories. Ian's constructive critisism was great for my work. The likes of Terry are a pleaure to speak to. Happy days, and now there is a massive void in british boxing

Sorry guys - was not trying to start a war.

Was just merely pointing out the the BBN experience for me was a good one.

Apologies to anyone I offended.

Ian was always the driving force. When he went there was going to be a massive hole. Thought Kev may have lined someone up(Ben Carey maybe) but sadly it wasn't to be!
