tua vs kali meahan
tua vs kali meahan
personally it would great great fight with meahan winning on points
Re: tua vs kali meahan
Meehan does not win many fights on points. He usually wins by KO.
Kali has won 35 of his 38 fights, 29 by KO, including his last six fights. I read a recent interview where he said he would be happy to fight Tua or Cameron.

we need a strict definition of the term 'world class' to allow this debate to continue.adamheight wrote:Against who? Meehan is NOT world classiceman wrote:kali has come along way since fighting danny long way and has shown he is world class

Re: tua vs kali meahan
The word here in NZ is Tua is going for the BIG names straight away. Tua is looking at Rahman in December. The boxing world wants to see it.
Rahman (who KOed Kali Meehan) wants the world to see a reff counting or waving his arms at Tua. Hasim wants to fight Tua and Rahman wants a knock out victory to make amends for the knockout Tua gave him.
So Meehan would be more likely and better off fighting Cameron. Meehan who displays an open jaw for a guard and an ordinary jab that a lot of fighters have walked past and got inside, would feel punches on his face that are harder then Rahman's and Danny Williams and this will result in a KO. Meehans chin is suspect when he got KOed by Williams it was early in the fight, a very easy fight for Williams and a poor unfair display of Meehan that makes it hard to call him world class. After that fight you wouldnt be surprised if people called Williams world class. I dont see Meehan knocking out Tua, after all Lewis couldnt. Meehan's best option is to see how he goes against Cameron then if he feels up to it go after Tua.
Good to hear that Meehans still fighting, some where on this forum it said he's retired which would be a waste. He does have a lot of KO's but Tua according to boxrec has a higher KO ratio, no doubt thats due to Tua's victories which is quite a number.
I do think (and my pickings so far have been dead on) Cameron and Meehan would be a great fight. However make no mistake Tua is Australasia's no.1 heavyweight. I like Meehan but in America and England if you mention his name they would say 'Kali who??', mention Tua and you'll get a boxing conversation.

Re: tua vs kali meahan
meehans had a bit of recognition in england thru working with harrison, and then fighting (tryin to anyway) williams.
its a shame tua has that deal with maori tv, coz he needs to get back in the mix and fighting for belts. hes a top 5 heavyweight right now

Re: tua vs kali meahan
that contract is going to make it very difficult to fight the big names. Difficult, but not impossible. An American opponent would have to be prepared to fight TUA on his terms, due to the TV contract, so it will make any fight harder to negotiate.adamheight wrote:meehans had a bit of recognition in england thru working with harrison, and then fighting (tryin to anyway) williams.

As far as where Meehan stands at present, it's very hard to say. We have no recent history to go by.

Re: tua vs kali meahan
I'd like to see tua v arreola but he's unknown in nz so doubt it would happen down there. Tua should sign with king. He needs some heavyweights under his wing. And king might be prepared to buy out the contract
Re: tua vs kali meahan
well he is the number 1 in the w.b.a so are they wrong , you blokes are kidding if you dont think he is world class , a while back people were saying homono was world class , your kidding bet that has changed now
Re: tua vs kali meahan
Well he beat Williamson, who beat McCall, who beat Lewis....adamheight wrote:Against who? Meehan is NOT world classiceman wrote:kali has come along way since fighting danny long way and has shown he is world class

Being ranked no.1 by the WBA means nothing at all. It should but it doesn't. And no one (certainly not me anyway) said haumono was world class.
Re: tua vs kali meahan
Nelson beat Fenech who beat Satoshi Shingaki....who lost in a light flyweight title fight. So what? :??

Re: tua vs kali meahan
i wont ever be able to take the OP seriously again. after him stating that meehan would beat david tua
Re: tua vs kali meahan
meehan beat brewster who was good enough to beat wlad, so thats as close to world class as it gets.
meehan may not be the 1st or 2nd best heavyweight in the world but i don't realistically see too many of the rest that are better. that in itself must surely be considered world class. otherwise in the scheme of things only the russian twins are the only world class heavy on the planet.
none of the belt holders want to risk fighting meehan and none of the top contenders want to face him. that says it all really.

Re: tua vs kali meahan
I could be wrong but i don't think meehan has the skills to avoid tua's storms, when someone jumps on him all he does is goes on the ropes and covers up, no footwork, i would like to see him fight leapai, because we would find out if alex is the real deal.
Brewster wasn't trying very hard againts kali cause they're freinds.
Tua by tko before 6 probably

Re: tua vs kali meahan
Tua hits a lot harder than anyone meehan has ever fought. That includes williams. And all this "a beat b who beat c, therefore a can beat c" is absolute nonsense. Any one posting on a boxing forum knows that.Eric t wrote:I could be wrong but i don't think meehan has the skills to avoid tua's storms, brewster wasn't trying very hard againts kali cause they're freinds.

Meehan will go the same way that ruiz, moorer and Cameron went

I think that is questionable, tua caught lennox with some power shots but couldn't knock him out and he couldn't knock rahman out and Robert Hawkins who got ko'd by Vladimir Virchis in the 5th round, we seen what brewster did to gollota in 1 round and we seen what danny williams did to meehan.
Re: tua vs kali meahan
Tua didnt any power shots on Lennox, He hardly landed a punch never mind a power punch.Eric t wrote:adamheight wrote:Tua hits a lot harder than anyone meehan has ever foughtEric t wrote:I could be wrong but i don't think meehan has the skills to avoid tua's storms, brewster wasn't trying very hard againts kali cause they're freinds.

Yes he did, i just watched it yesterday, he was catching him with some good shots up until about the 5th round, you need to watch it again.ben k wrote:

I re-watched this and Tua never caught Lewis flush on the jaw at all. He caught a lot of guard though. But thats credit to Lewis's defence which was too good.
All and all I dont see this fight happening. It's more likely Meehan could fight Cameron or Leapai and I think thats realistic.
Geez Meehan doesnt seem to be ranked at all in the boxrec rankings, strange for a fighter that few feel is world class.
Re: tua vs kali meahan
^^^ Mate boxers who haven't fought in over a year are deemed inactive by boxrec and aren't given a ranking, it's the same as your boy Tua before fighting Glassy on Saturday night...No ranking, now that he's fought he has a ranking see where i'm going here ![[icon_witsend.gif] :witzend:](./images/smilies/icon_witsend.gif)
In no reference to anyone particular, but the level of people with intelligence on this forum for the sport of boxing or just intelligence in general is gone down the shitter.
Every new thread has more and more inaccurate historical facts and although some have been educated they bounce back with even more dribble that reads like a 9 year kid wrote it.
If you don't know your shit fuckoff to one of the other shit forums you no doubt got chased out of.....
