Sylvester is a solid fighter who has fought at a higher level. I would favor him slightly over Macklin. I would also favor Katsidis slightly over Murray but that would be a cracker.

I'd favour Macklin but would definitely favour Katsidis - don't think it would be the best match-up for Murray at this stage.

Not likely to happen , if it did be a good one , but Kasidas has done it the hard way he's gone into other peoples back yards, now he's right up there and some big fights on the horizon , its gonna take a lot of money to get him to England probably more than they will want to pay

Katsidas v Marquez looks the most likely once JMM has realigned his weight.

Good fight too.

Murray is only 24 and is on the verge of European honours so what's the rush? Hopefully he wins the belt in his next fight and then has a couple of fights against some tough fringe world level fighters over the next year or so before stepping up to the top plate. Katsidis isn't the best in the world but he's a warrior and it's a bit too soon for Murray who hasn't yet stepped above domestic level. A fight against Katsidis at this stage COULD (Not definitely) go horribly wrong and be the type of fight that completely derails his career. That's my opinion!

I think it would be a very tough fight, Katsidis, but John Murray has loads of potential and probably should leave British level behind him. Katsidis is a right handful, but is very hittable. Murray is very strong and has some seriously underrated skills.

The question is, why would Katsidis fight Murray, what's in it for Katsidis? Katsidis probably hasn't heard of Murray, as good as Murray is. Katsidis' priority is to become "full" WBO champ after winning the Interim strap vs Escobedo (a prospect I've never rated). How does Katsidis become full champ? He has to either fight Marquez who isn't likely to come back down to lightweight. Or if he doesn't just get upgraded to champion status, then he will have to fight the next top contender.

I think John Murray may have to do something to get ppl's notice, "ppl" being the sanctioning bodies, Katsidis and GBP (who will no doubt want to promote as many "in house" fights as they can). Even if Mick H made a big offer to bring Katsidis over here, would the WBO go along with it, would they sanction Murray?

I want nothing more than to see Murray scalp Katsidis, but I am just trying to think what the best route to it is.

think MOREquez just wants the big money, and that could be vs Hatton. After bulking up to welter at his age, I can't see him going back down to lightweight.

Methinks Katsidis v Antonio DeMarco for the WBO title, in what could be one of Katsidis' best fights.

If Murray beat someone like Romanov, I reckon that would put him on the map, in world terms. Romanov has had ages inactive, and could be ripe for picking on (though I would favour Murray anyway). Obviously no instant reward - no EBU title - but beating Romanov would be to beat the best lightweight in Europe, and one who is world rated. Also, doesn't Mick H need to put on absolutely excellent fights, if he's to attract a new TV contract?

EDIT - Romanov seems to have dropped out of all sanctioning body rankings! so much for that idea.

As stated on the other thread a European class opponent outside of the UK would have the EBU sitting up and taking notice of Murray with regards his european ranking and it would ensure further movement with some of the world governing bodies.

I think murray v katsidis would be a war and a cracking fight to watch. If murray can beat katsidis then Khan v Murray is a fight that will be made. (And khan will win).

I agree about money for JMM, but the fact he was struggling to bulk up suggest 140 or even 135 is entirely possible. Lest we forget he only debuted at 135 months ago.

I think Hatton v JMM is already in the pipeline its a respectable fight for both boxers and it will get viewings. Hatton already said he would only come back against a big name and JMM has already indicated he wants the fight.

perhaps, but i think he fights hatton then leaves boxing. true, he wasn't very heavy vs mayweather, only 142. who knows, might be a strain getting down to 135 now. GBP really fvcked marquez, as many have said, not protecting their fighter in weight negotiations v mayweather.

as a fan of marquez, i'd like to see him move back down to 135. as a murray fan, though, i wouldn't like to see him do that because it will take longer for murray to get a look in.

I wouldn`t fancy Murray`s chances against Katsidis. Katsidis can dig and will be in his face all night. If Murray could take him it would be a great result. If Murray is in top shape, then he may have a shout, but I would put him as underdog going into that one.

Difficult to say with Macklin. He has his confidence at the top right now, but Slyvester is no mug. I would go for Macklin for an early stoppage win or Sylvester for a late stoppage win.

Katsidis a good fighter and he may have a little bit too much class for Murray who will need to show more versatility in terms of his style against a real world class operator.

I dont know much about Sylvester but the Macklin camp really seem to be bigging this one up, but we all know how tough it is for anyone deemed as an 'outsider' to get a result in Germany.

yeah i argee i think murray needs 2 or 3 fights at world level 1st

i'm not sure about that. i have no doubt that murray can make it at world level. i've seen british fighters come through, ones that i didn't think would make it. and murray looks like a tremendous young fighter who will be going places. his strength, accuracy, etc place him way above domestic level.

the only question for me is when to make the move, and what fights to get him there.

granted, michael katsidis is a rough, nasty handful. but he is alarmingly easy to hit. graham earl seemed to be on his last legs before the katsidis fight (romanov likely softened him up, in losing, and earl looked bad in the ramirez fight), and earl hurt katsidis.

Like i said , ther's not enough in it for Kasidas he has done the hard yards he's at the top of his game if he wants to stay there he can only afford to get beat by the big name marqui fighters , Murray at this stage is a backward step and too risky

What a fight Katsidis Murray would be! I think Katsidis would be too expierenced and win on points or late stoppage I think Murray should fight Meezache or Juan Diaz next

As for Macklin vs Sylvester I think Macklin would win from what i've seen of Sylvester he is limited, and on Macklin's recent form he looks very good
