Alex Arthur to fight at Light Welterweight?

Post by Horse »

"During my latest lay-off my weight has ballooned up to eleven stone but I've been reassured that with hard training this can be brought down to the light-welterweight limit of ten stone so it looks like I won't be fighting at lightweight any more."
Can he be competitive at Light Welterweight? It seems to be a tougher divison at British and European level than the Lightweight division.

He looked slow against Cook at 130 lbs, so another 10 lbs doesn't sound good. However, perhaps he has been promised a shot at Khan's title after a few easy wins?

Recent blood tests revealed Arthur has an under-active thyroid, so that could be some sort of explaination for his weight issues!

I think Arthur has missed the boat. The inactivity is killing his career. Whenever he gets some momentum going something always comes up to stall that momentum! I'd take Khan to beat him, especially at LWW!

I think Arthur has seen the top of his hill as it were. Probably still enough left to get paid a few more times (if he gets more active and consistent) but I fancy an unstoppable decline has set in now.

A bit of a dissapointment if I'm honest.

The Gomez fight ruined him.

I would imagine for Alex to go back to the domestic scene fighting Morrison and Daws would be very demoralizing for him. This is a man who was promised fights with Guzman, Barerra and Khan recently. As sad as it is for his career, I think he should maybe retire - he has achieved a lot, winning a world title (albeit because guzman vacated) and I cant see him doing more at LWW.

I think Arthur still has quite a bit to offer boxing. Though at domestic level now.

He is 31yrs old and the struggle to keep at the s-feather limit for so long probably took some years off him prolonging his career.

It would be good to see him in the mix at lightweight.

He might have been slow because he was weak at the weight?

Hardly, his career best wins were post Gomez

Arthur could do with just fighting more than once a year at the moment, his career has stalled completely
