Cleverley hurt by Joey Vegas??

Post by opticald »

I never saw the fight but heard Cleverley was out on his feet against Joey Vegas. Is this true? His chin is suspect?

He obviously has the skills but if Joey Vegas had him out on his feet, question marks are there...

didn't see it myself. I guess my question just relates to cleverleys chin. How do people rate it?

It was definitely Joey Vegas and while I wouldn't go so far as to say he was out of his feet, he was definitely hurt. I think some thought Vegas deserved a draw but the majority had Cleverley scrapping home. Good learning fight in my opinion and nothing wrong with that.

I was there. Vegas won that fight. Didn't think he was out on his feet. JUst backed up on the ropes.

How would you rate Cleverleys chin. Has it been tested at domestic level?

I saw the Vegas fight on Setanta, Vegas definitely won that one, I wasn't too impressed with him on the Calzaghe-Hopkins undercard either. However the next time I saw him against McIntosh he was hugely impressive, not sure if moving from the Calzaghe gym had this affect or if its just a case of him maturing or if it was the quality of opposition, but Cleverley has definitely come on.

His chin has come through everything so far (Brit and Comm Champ). I think if he had a problem we would have known about it by now.

Well, cleverley should have too much for Fry on Friday anyway. I wonder what would happen if Bomber nailed him on the chin though?

Prob have the same effect as anybody else I`d imagine ..

Question is, could he land a big one on Cleverly before Cleverly landed a big one on him?

I remember seeing the fight and he did hurt him but nothing that major anyway I saw Vegas fight Miranda at the York Hall and even though he got knocked out he hurt Miranda quite a few times and if he was fitter could of won so I think Vegas does punch hard, so don't think its a problem with Cleverly's chin just think Vegas could hurt most with a clean punch.

I was at the fight although it was a close fight thought Cleverly nicked it, Vegas is a decent fight/tough for a 20 year old boy still growing, studying full time in his 11th fight! Think he TKO'D Quigley in his 7th or 8th fight and then Vegas.... his form of late has been exceptional.... Once he finishes his studies and concentrates on boxing 100% giving a little luck can go a very long way!

i know what you mean but i don't think if it happens clev- bomber is some kind of 'who gets off first' KO shootout

bomber will stalk him with intelligent pressure and wait for the mistakes. i believe bomber vs clev would be all about quality shots vs quicker flurries (imagine John Murray fighting Gavin Rees maybe?), and that by the time Clev gets stopped bomber will have himself up on the cards

I'd love it to happen.. :D

I boxed the same night Clev boxed Joey Vegas, I thought it could have gone either way, I was actually sparring Vegas for the fight, Well once anyway. Joey is a good fighter and quite skilfull when he wants to be.. Just a shame he ain't fit.

Clev was hurt and Im sur he was down?? Don't know if the ref counted it as a knockdown though

If the fight goes past 3 rounds on Friday then he's gonna have problems with Courtney Fry.. I just hope Courtney starts faster than usual cos he could have a ref jumping in if he starts slow

Im itching for the step up guys BUT I ain't just saying it a few have knocked it back and it's pathetic it really is.. Gutted really cos the names knocking it back would make for some good/exciting fights..

Teddy good to see ya still missing me mate, I only let you out my ar$e yesterday, You act quick my pal.. :TU:

some1 on here said it before, i believe it will be quality power shots(bomber) v quality speed shots (cleverly)

it is deffo not a case of who lands the big shot first tho with cleverly. what you have to remember mate, bellew has never ever in his life been down, and bare in mind hes fought 3 years as a heavy weight. and spared the likes of david haye and david price, so its not like cleverly could hurt him with 1 punch power. cleverlys advantage would be his speed, im sure bellew would love nothing more than a tear up, and i would imagine he would be willing to take a couple to land 1 big shot.

should be a good fight on friday with fry. i think cleverly will win but he shouldnt underestimate fry!

i've missed cleverley's last few fights.

not bowled over by courtney fry being his next opponent.

i think that's a poor match that proves diddly squat tbh.

He seem's to be getting better with every fight he was brilliant against Billy Boyle I was amazed that he KO'd him so early I thought it would be a long night for him but he showed his power has come on well :TU:
Fancy him to beat Courtney Fry handily
