Re: Best finisher in boxing history?
If Hagler hurt a guy he was right onto him.
Re: Best finisher in boxing history?
Although not the classic finisher like Louis, Marciano didn't let many guys off the hook
Re: Best finisher in boxing history?
Well two names come to mind and they were both from Detroit.
Re: Best finisher in boxing history?
I would add Wilfredo Gomez to the list.

Sugar Ray & Tommy, right?Grimm wrote:Well two names come to mind and they were both from Detroit.
Sugar especially, the way he jumped all over Turpin in the last round of their second fight is just crazy.
Re: Best finisher in boxing history?
Wasn't Sugar cut pretty badly in that second Turpin fight and had to get him out of there?Datsue wrote:Sugar Ray & Tommy, right?Grimm wrote:Well two names come to mind and they were both from Detroit.

I go with the Brown Bomber. Prime Liston comes to mind as a possibility, though I haven't seen all of his fights pre-Floyd.

I was thinking Robinson and Louis.Datsue wrote:Sugar Ray & Tommy, right?Grimm wrote:Well two names come to mind and they were both from Detroit.

I forgot all about Hearns.

I saw the Hagler/Hamani fight and once Hagler hurt Hamani, he didn't let him off the hook.

Re: Best finisher in boxing history?
Hagler was a beast when he got someone hurt he hardly ever got a fighter hurt without finishing them also Joe Louis could smell if he hurt you and would punish you 2 top class finishers
Re: Best finisher in boxing history?
Joe Louis
Re: Best finisher in boxing history?
I like Dempsey, Louis, Tyson...
Robinson and Hagler...
Robinson and Hagler...

if he hurt anyone, they were finished. god, what a fighter!raylawpc wrote:Joe Louis
Re: Best finisher in boxing history?
Wilfredo Gomez would be my number 1 (dude was like a lion going after a lame zebra when he got somebody hurt). But Hagler, Tyson, Louis, Carlos Zarate, Arguello, Duran would be up there too

Re: Best finisher in boxing history?
I dont think so against Hearns he had him hurt and let him off the hook in the 13th and when he got hurt in the 14th he took a while to finish it I also think it was a premature stoppageEzzard wrote:Ray Leonard usually clsoed the show when an oppnent was hurt.

I second the picks of Louis and Robinson.
Other notables: prime Duran, Liston and yes I'll second Pryor.

Pryor was a great finisher
Re: Best finisher in boxing history?
Trinidad was pretty fantastic. If he had you hurt you might survive initially but he kept coming and coming and coming. Pretty relentless, thats why it sucked to see him fight on after his prime. Instead of coming and coming and coming and simply waited and waited and waited...
