"Uhh I guess," WTF is this the nostalgia police.
Ugh, if you knew him, he'd correct you?
Sheeeeet.
Anytime we saw him he did not have you tagging alone to correct our spelling, facts or any other damn thing.
How much nicer can I write. Fact, he was a nice guy, fact yes he had a business but he was hurting and not dong well at the time,
fact, we called him Jim, Jimmy, James Champ WHATEVER and he never corrected anybody. You weren't there to correct anyone either.
Lighten up with the bullshit skepticism its as out of place here as Saddam Hussein at a Bar Mitzvah.
He was up there awhile and we knew him at Floyds and he was in front of the Bistro quite a bit when he wasn't doing well.
We liked him, he was an ok guy, and he was good to us.
I hope I got that right oh GREAT GUARDIAN OF THE FACTS.

Jesus God brother, not intentionally distorting anything, really!
Me, Ralph "Buddy" Sizemore, Tracy Patterson, and all the guys in the gym really liked him.
We had a good time together and were shocked really badly to learn of his passing.
I still don't know how it happened, do you know what actually happened or was reported to have happened to him, did they catch the person responsible, who did this, whatever you know would be appreciated.

Re: James Salerno ?
I know this post is old but I am the sister-in-law of James Salerno. My husband, Matt, was James' brother and our oldest son is James as well. For more information on James Salerno, you can reach my husband at [email protected].
James was a one-of-a-kind person. He had an easy spirit that no one could match. Thank you all for the wonderful words! Our son is doing a report on his uncle that he never met and in doing the research we found this site. James would've loved the tribute! And yes, we called him James.

James Salerno was also my uncle I never got to see him. I was born in 2000 but I've heard a lot about him I was just surprised that he was so good. I always wanted to see him fight and I wanted to ask if anyone has any videos of him boxing his life interests me but I haven't found much about him. I'd like to know more.

Re: James Salerno ?
James you were a Funny, Goofy, Talented, Persistent, Individual. You were a Moonie on a Mission! When we weren't sparring or training we were constantly cracking each other up! and often when sparing or training for that matter! Perhaps the funniest guy I ever have known. He was always trying to get a laugh at of you. It was also so easy to make you laugh at yourself. James did the best impressions of Muhammad Ali that you would ever hear, way better than Billy Crystal. James deemed me as his northern lingo consultant. Those days at Floyd's with James are some of my fondest memories. Certainly saddened by the loss of you. You were a Great Friend. R.I.P.
Re:
Hello.
It's probably the same guy, yes. I read an old article about his kick-boxing fight in 1978 against Gary Sproule. Was Gary his opponent in the video you have?
I'm aware this is an old topic, but I'm very curious about this fight.

Re: James Salerno ?
There’s a biography on Amazon about him
Re: James Salerno ?
No the kick-box fight I have is against Joel Judah, 1 round only.
Re: James Salerno ?
Ok, thanks. Do you maybe have other such videos (from the 70s, 80s and 90s), in which a boxer fights against a kickboxer? For exemple, there was an exhibition match in 1987, between Hearns and Bill Wallace.
Re: James Salerno ?
I saw 2 of Salerno's fights live and they both were against Leon "Night Life" McDonald. The co-feature of the rematch was Jimmy Young vs Jeff Simms.
Re: James Salerno ?
The biography on Amazon is a great, if very tragic, read and has pretty long excerpts from a diary that James kept while he was boxing. It gives a real stark picture of the life of a fighter and what they really go through in the business and he pulled no punches about himself in his diary either.
Glad they finally put the fight with Prince Charles Williams up on YouTube. Salerno won that fight and they screwed him out of his fight with Spinks as a result. He was a very smart and talented fighter to be sure that no one sadly remembers or talks much about today.
