Any thoughts on this fight? I think Cleverly will win in ten.

Fry aint Bad at all and I think coz of a few loses he's being Underestimated... I see that Cleverly boxed Ernie Smith on his debut and only beat him by a round 39-38

then in his 2nd he boxed Darren Gethin and only beat him by a round as well

Was ment to of had a rough time with Joey Vegas, some thought he lost... Fry will be really up for this, could there be an upset, imo it would'nt be a shock ;;-)

this could be a great fight but it just depends what fry turns up.

if fry has had good preparation and the inactivity hasnt effected him too much, then as long as he gets past the first few rounds i can see him causing cleverly some problems.

fry offers something very few of cleverlys past opponents havnt, that being he has a great amateur background where he has seen and fought all types of fighters, and has some valuable experience.

I've said all along that Fry was being under-estimated by many on this forum and could give him problems, but that has to be balanced against the fact that Cleverley is a very different fighter from the one you've illustrated above. He's gone from strength to strength as his career has progressed and while I think Fry could pose him some real problems, I expect him to win comprehensively on points.

I don't think it'll be that cut and dry but Clev is a class act and I see him winning within 9 rounds...

NATHAN CLEVERLY has prepared for his Commonwealth title defence by knocking out his dad's teeth!

Cleverly, 22, has been told that if he looks good while retaining his light-heavyweight crown against Courtney Fry, he will be in line for a world title shot early next year.

And it is dad Vince, who has also been decked by his lad, who will get a big vote of thanks - and maybe some new gnashers.

Cleverly from Newbridge, Wales, takes on Fry at East London's York Hall tonight.

And he revealed: "I once knocked out dad's front teeth with a right hand - but he doesn't mind being hurt by me. It's in a good cause after all.

"I don't hold back because it's my dad in the ring sparring me.

"I go for it and he likes to feel my power.

"We were sparring and I landed a nice left hook to the body and he went.

"Dad had the big bodybag and a helmet on but the shot got through.

"He had to rest for a minute but he loves it when I do that because it proves my power is there.

"If he knows the power is there, he's more than happy to take the shots - he must be bit crazy."

Former GB Olympic boxer Fry, 35, has fought just 15 times in six years but he will give Cleverly enough problems to make it a lively night.

Cleverly added: "Fry has a great amateur pedigree but hasn't done much as a pro.

"This is his big opportunity and he'll come out all guns blazing.

"If I want to be world champion I have got to take care of Fry and look good doing it."

ROSS MINTER, son of former undisputed world middleweight champ Alan, has quit boxing.

Minter jnr won 17 of his 22 fights but his career was blighted by injuries.

He failed to emulate his famous father - who lost his world title to 'Marvelous' Marvin Hagler at Wembley in 1980 - winning the English welterweight title but failing to land a British title shot.

Crawley fighter Minter, 30, said: "I decided that the desire and determination required to drag myself through more injuries to reach the top was sadly no longer there."

To be fair he was debuting at 18 and earnie smith is not a man to mess around, both him and gethin come to win as appose to survive.

Also, I wasnt overly impressed with Clev until he fought Oakey, thought he matured a lot in that fight and has progressed nicely since. He should win this one with some ease imo.

As I said in a previous thread, Clev has come on leaps and bounds since leaving the Calzaghe gym (whether that's the reason or if its just a case of him maturing I don't know) I reckon Clev will stop him in the mid to late rounds, I note he's been nominated to challenge for the vacant Euro title, would be good to see him step up to this level in his next fight. Shame for Clev in some ways in terms of development that other than Bellew and Oakey (who he's already beaten), competition on the British scene at light heavy is pretty thin on the ground.

There are two things I hope for tonight -

1) That the ref does not give us an all too early stoppage

2) That the commentators don`t do their "pick a theme and beat it to death" routine.

martin couldnt agree with u more mate i think fry may just do this 2night i really do and i hope he does aswell hes a top bloke and wish him well

I really like the look of Clev his power is really coming along and he's looking a lot stronger now. I think there were a few good fights for Minter maybe against Jamie Cox but if he's lost the love then he's right to retire

Fry's a good boxer but I doubt he'll be able to deal with Clev who seem's to be getting better with every fight I see a mid-late KO for Cleverly I think Fry may cause him some problems though

He must have the most annoying voice in commentary.

It's just ridiculous on too many levels. Not only that he actually thinks he is a good commentator but that sky actually employ him as a commentator. he couldn't be more out of place in the job and hasn't a clue either. An absolute joke. Every time I watch boxing with a mate they always make some sort of inquiring comment about how smith actually got that job. He really is a very very poor commentator.

And I don't care if he's a nice guy. I'm a nice guy but that doesn't entitle me to a high paying job. You get that through talent, which smith lacks in abundance.

Fry is a Massive price with PaddyPower at 15/2 out right.. 14/1 on Points, 10/1 by KO/TKO..

Cleverly hasn't boxed someone who can work off the back foot for a while, be interesting to see how he adopts to that.
Last few fights he's had the opponent has come forward, works well for Cleverly.
Fry is a big underdog, so needs to find his confidence early, try and get his jab home and land a couple of right hands.
Has Cleverly got the chin? seems to have passed the tests so far, Mcintosh landed a few shots on him and Fry doesn't punch as hard as him.

I'd go for a Cleverly stoppage around the 9th, but i may have a fiver on Fry with those odds, you never know.
