The book gives the erasons for rating fenech above KT. Makes pretty good sense. Three world titles at different weights - should have been four - and undefeated while he won the first three.

also was a top world-clas spro after just a few amateur fights while KT had about 300 amateur fights.

I reckon Vic should have been much higher than 8.

I think Trevor King was born with one leg shorter than the other and as a result he limped. What a handicap for a boxer huh?

He became involved in some churchy thing years ago, helping disadvantages kids. He's still at it I believe and good on him

I always preferred to watch Tszyu fight more but it's no surprise really that Jeff is ahead of Tszyu, especially recently when the ten best fighters in each of the original weight class's were announced and Jeff Fenech was nominated in his respective weight class and to my surprise Tszyu wasn't.....this is a list compiled from around the world, so again no real surprise.

Fenech an easy number one based on accomplishment.

From memory Fenech and Tszyu had a similar number of title defences (or Tszyu is in front on this score). And Tszyu's quality of opposition was probably better. And Fenech never unified. hmmmm

Where are Lester Ellis and Barry Michael on the list?

Trevor King more than deserves his inclusion on the list. This recent (June '09) article gives you the measure of the man, which is just as good as his ring record:

Is Barry Micheals not considered Australian? FFS if he is, he should be top 15. Lovemore ahead of Barry?????FFS. Alot of you blokes don't like him as a commentator, but i've seen him fight. If there were more blokes like him fighting ther would be 10 fold more fans

I have to agree Toppity, IMO Lovemore is ranked far to high. Also having him higher than guys like Lester Ellis and Hector Thompson amongst many others is a bit strange. I couldnt make a case for Lovemore beating Either Thompson or Micheal so i dont think he should be rated higher.

Ray, being an IBF officionado may have been a little partial to anyone who held an IBF belt. Lovemore did hold one of those for a short time :)

:bag:
so did barry

No problems with Lovemore ranked so high.

Don't forget he went close to beating Cotto, Sharmba and Witter and belted Ben Rabah who should have got the decision over Juan Urango.

How would Barry have gone against Cotto?

Wrong King. Trevor King did become a Salvation Army officer, but Reg King was the boxer with the withered leg. Reg was an Aboriginal boxer I trained with in the early 70s. Reg started out as a bantamweight and finished up a super lightweight. He did well until boxers worked out he could be pressured and forced back onto his weak leg.

Trevor King was a New South Wales featherweight champion in the 1950s. From all reports he did not get chances boxers get now. Air travel was a novelty in his time and sea journeys were expensive and long. Most good judges who saw him say he could have been a World Champion.

Trevor also had a withered leg. He had polio as a child and doctors said he would never walk again. His trainer in Newcastle made him a steel frame so he could stand up and throw punchesd against a bag. That is how he became a boxer.

There is a top story on him in Wheatley's mag The Greatest. Barry Michael is 18 or 19 from memory
